We recently returned from an 8 day trip on the DDP. I had decided that even though we were using the DDP again this trip, we were NOT going to make any ADRs and were going to try to wing it... I think it turned out OK. We didn't eat at all of the places we'd have liked, but that was more because we just didn't want to take the time.
Since this is going to be a quick review, I'll only do the TS places...
our first was at The Wave in the Contemporary. I didn't really expect much because this restaurant hasn't gotten the best reviews, but I have to say this was my best meal of the trip. I ordered the sustainable fish of the day, which happened to be Arctic Char (I believe) that day. They told me that it's a relative of Salmon and I'm not the biggest salmon fan, so I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I LOVED it. The meaty white fish was nicely seared and served on a wonderful edamame, corn & tomato stew with a delicious cilantro chutney that added SO MUCH to the flavor. Just thinking about this meal makes my mouth water... it was that good.
DH ordered Grilled Marinated Flank Steak. He's a steak lover, but he didn't love this steak... he couldn't really place why; he just didn't care for the flavor.
The kids ordered something from the standardized kids menu and loved their meals - they are good eaters and not very picky, so did well at all of our meals.
DH had a milkshake for his drink and I ordered a Passion Fruit Mojito, which was excellent.
For dessert, we were stuffed, but since we were on the DDP, we tried it anyway. I got the Creamy Indulgence and DH got the Crispy and Crunchy. Mine were very good, DH didn't care for his... so I shared mine. The kids LOVED their "Build your own Sundae's".
Our next meal was at Spoodles... we LOVE this restaurant and usually eat her every trip. Our server here was really good - almost too attentive and talky - but she made some excellent suggestions.
Here we started out with the Calamari... so good and I LOVED the olive-pepperoncini relish.
I went with fish, again the Pan-roasted Fillet of Snapper with Saffron Israeli Couscous, Chorizo, Wilted Greens and spicy Tomato Broth was excellent. The fish was a bit crunchy, but I ate every bit of it.
DH ordered the Wood-grilled Pork Tenderloin with Homemade Gnocchi, Spinach, Mushrooms, Onions, and Red Wine Sauce he said it was just OK. The pork was done perfectly, but sauce had an odd spice that he didnt care for.
The kids, again, ate well.
Dessert was cheesecake for me (which went directly in a box) and the Chocolate Espresso cake for DH which he proclaimed to be wonderful. The kids enjoyed their sundaes again.
The next day, we had lunch at the Castle this meal I REALLY wasnt expecting much as Id read such bad reviews on the food I have to agree that food-wise, this was NOT a 2-credit meal and honestly, character-wise it wasnt worth it either but, Ill save that for a different post.
All of that said, we did enjoy our meal. We started with the anti-pasti plate which DH and I both enjoyed. I went with the Major Domos Pie. I typically dont care for Red Wine sauce, so was bracing myself, but actually really liked this meal. DH ordered the Focaccia Sandwich and he loved this.
The kids, as I recall, both ordered the same thing theyd had the night before at Spoodles so they obviously really liked it.
For dessert, I ordered the rice pudding, which was blah. DH ordered the chocolate buckle yummy. The kids enjoyed their sundaes do we see a pattern here?
That evening, we didnt do a TS, but the CS we had was SO excellent, Ill write about it. We ended up at Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney and found the best CS secret at Disney! I ordered the Four Cheese Pesto Pizza outstanding! DH ordered the Rigatoni with Chicken Alfredo also excellent! DS ordered the kids pepperoni pizza and DD ordered the cheese quesadilla. We also ordered a couple of beers. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the warm evening it was the perfect end to a great day. And we ended the meal by sharing two of the frozen yogurts, a chocolate chip cookie and a brownie. The brownie was the BEST brownie Ive ever eaten no lie!
The next day, DD developed a fever and that evening it started to rain, so we ended up back in the room and debated simply ordering pizza, but finally decided that DH and DS would run back to Wolfgang Puck Express to get carry-out yes, it really is that good! DH ordered the Four Cheese Macaroni which was good, but not as good as the Rigatoni. I got the Chicken Aioli Pocket which was really good, but a little too much red onion. DS got another pizza DD slept through dinner. We all enjoyed brownies for dessert.
It was our last full day and we still had 3 TS credits (each) to use, so we decided to do the Hoop Dee Doo review. Wed done this on our first trip when the kids were really young and they loved it, so we always said wed do it again. The food at this show isnt much to brag about, but its good and the waitress brought us a pitcher of Bud Light, so that was good. The show was excellent and the kids had a grand time.
The following morning, I got reservations for the Supercalifragilistic breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. It was our last day and we had to leave for the airport by noon, so it was a bit of a challenge fitting another meal in and none of us was especially hungry after all the food wed eaten this week, but we enjoyed this breakfast and were glad we did it. The character interaction was good and the food selection was excellent. DS and I enjoyed made to order omelets from the omelet station. DD enjoyed the mickey waffles. Character interaction here was very good, as well. This was the first breakfast buffet wed done at Disney and it was a good way to end our trip.
We still had four CS credits left and the plan was to hit Wolfgang Puck Express one last time for carry-out before we headed to the airport alas, we ran out of time. Those four credits went to waste and Im still longing for the great meal I missed, but overall it was a great week of food and pretty good for a family who decided to wing it!
