Hi all! Our cruise leaves in a week and we have a child whose one year birthday is during the cruise. I know you can order a cake through gifts and amenities beforehand, but can I speak to the head server and figure out something the night of dinner? I'm not sure the best way to go about it, but I have been asked to find out.

I also wanted to know if anyone on the Dream recently has a copy of the daily navigators or can tell me when the characters are usually out during the day. I had the question if I can request a character come by our table, and I'm fairly sure that's not possible. I think the best way to get a character interaction with the child and her parents on her birthday is to do a meet and greet or spot one by chance.

Any advice is helpful!

If you go with what they provide, it's a small chocolate mousse-type thing, usually with chocolate drizzle and those little edible Mickey head funfetti with a happy birthday chocolate on it - and probably written on the plate too. Never known them to do anything else, so if you want cake cake, I'd order it now.

I seriously doubt they can do a character visit in the dining room. Because EVERYONE would want the character to stop by. (Also, just from a practical standpoint the tables are pretty close together, so it could be difficult to impossible for the character to get to you even if they did do individual visits.)

I've never had issues finding times that characters were out - the most opportunities are generally in the afternoon/evening/night. Obviously the main characters are going to be out pretty much every day - usually multiple times. Not as common ones would be once or maybe twice only. One of the times is going to be your best bet.

You can order a cake, that will cost extra. Or you can just go with the "free" dessert that DCL does for celebrations. It's a chocolate mousse-type dessert and it's not bad

Have you checked here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/personal-navigators/ for Navigators? It'll give you an idea as to what's available. Things don't change all that much from cruise to cruise.

There are character meet & greets almost every day. And it's quite possible to "run across" a character or two onboard (remember there are no underground tunnels on a ship to get them from place to place unseen).

I ordered a cake once and we were very disappointed with it. It was "wet" and the icing was bland.

We prefered the small celebration cake they gave us at Enchanted Garden!
