Hi, I am thinking of heading to the D23 Destination Attraction event solo in November. I live in Florida so will just be driving down. Can't talk any of my local friends into going down for a Disney Convention, they aren't the biggest Disney Fans! Anyone else planning on being solo for this event. Would love to meet some people and have someone to hang out with after the convention!

I'm thinking of doing the same. I live in Jax and hopefully I can convince some friends her or in Orlando to do it as well. Only thing holding F&W back is I should save that $200 so I can LIVE there lol.

Hello,

I'm going to the Destination D event in November solo as well. Send me a private message if you would like. I'm always trying to meet other Disney fans too.

Robert

Solo here for D23 as well. I will be there 11/15 to 11/24. This will be my third D23 event but first time solo- DH can't get off work. I have a real interest in the 64 World Fair as I went to that one.

I didn't go to the 1964 Worlds Fair but remember reading and hearing all about it wishing I could be there!!! Looking forward to a 'Trip Down Memory Lane' at the D23 event!!

I thought there would be more interest in this showing up on these boards.
The D23 events are always so crowded - I thought we could do a Disboards meet-up.

Hello,

I'm only planning on being at the D23 on Saturday and Sunday, not the Friday shopping day - what about the rest of you?

Robert

I'm actually leaving this Sat. Doing a MVMCP and 3 tours before the D23 event - so I will be there Friday for the shopping.

I'll be there, too! Husband is not into Disney as much as I am, so he'll be at the hotel pool, playing Hearthstone on his tablet, and meeting me for lunch. Sunday we actually scored BOG lunch FP for 12:30-1, so I'll be rushing out to make sure I get back on time....also have 6:45pm dinner reservations in DTD Saturday night, so I'll be rushing out of that at 6pm as well...

I just got BOG fast pass for lunch on Sunday, too! I'll be racing you to the Magic Kingdom!!

I'm actually now thinking about going to the shopping on Friday. Will they be offering more than what was pictured on the D23 website? Maybe what they showed on the website was just items exclusive to this event. I would expect a lot of Imagineering items since they are calling it "Mickeys of Glendale".

I just got a confirmation email that said they aren't going to be allowing photography during the presentations. I don't know if that's just certain presentations or all of them, but that's a little surprising. Maybe when they show conceptual art they won't allow photography.

I hope everyone has a great time!

I hope everyone had a great time at the Destination D event! What were some of your favorite things about the event?

Robert

Favorite part(s): The 1st presentation, about the 1964 World's Fair overview. It sounded really awesome. Also enjoyed hearing more about the Magic Skyway. I've learned about it before, but to hear much more detail this time was really neat. Also liked hearing the scored music for the never-built Snow Palace attraction along with seeing the concept art. That was really cool! Lastly, I loved Tony Baxter's presentation on Discovery Bay. Really wishing it had been built. Side note: I also am glad I went on Carousel of Progress the day before Destination D began. I wasn't alive when it was around in DL, and while I've researched it on my own I didn't really "get" it until I went on it on Friday 11/20 for the first time! I'm glad I went on it before the presentations so I could have some sort of reference point.

Least favorite part(s): The weird video with the kids who were dreaming different things... that was uncomfortable to watch! Also, I don't understand the hype for Horizons/Figment, being a DLR native having only visited WDW 3 times (once as a baby, once as a 9-year old, and once for the D23 event). I also already knew literally everything that Stacia presented about lost DL attractions. If I had access to the pics/primary sources, I could've given that presentation..

All in all it was a good event. I think I enjoyed the previous Destination D better, but it was fun to learn a little more about some things I haven't really delved into before. Also, this was my first solo D23 event. It was difficult to go to one of these on my own - usually my mom goes with me, but she was unable to make it to FL, & my husband isn't as into Disney as I am. Looking forward to the next FL D23 event so we can make it out to WDW again!
