Solo but not single

Okay, this thread (which I came across quite by accident) is perfect for me. My DH is not into The World at all :sad2: I convinced him to go with me in Sept. 2008 under the "free dining" umbrella because he's such a food junkie. I will be 32 years old in December when I finally get my Bachelor's, and the one place I want to go to celebrate? Why WDW of course! :rotfl: My hubby isn't too excited about it. I really want to go in the winter to see the Holiday decorations, which I've never seen. So this thread, with all your encouraging posts, has convinced me that I may just go by myself! I imagine it would be a completely different experience but I'm already one of those that can enjoy that precious time alone, and as one post said, where else would you feel safer?! :thumbsup2 Thanks for giving me the inspiration!! :dance3:

Thank you for posting this! So glad you have been inspired!

Well I feel inspired too. I've been playing around with the idea of a solo trip, but never quite was able to pull it off.

But since DH hates Disney (and I won't ever bring him back) and the kids are going to be in TX with their dad over Spring Break, well... :rolleyes1

Let's just say that although I love traveling with my kids (and usually do with out DH) I am really hoping for a solo trip. I should feel guilty about that, but I don't. :) I mentioned it to DH and he thinks I want to get away from him. :headache: No, I just want to go to WDW and get my "fix". Also to get away from :laundy: :stir: :car:  and to have a little pixiedust: for myself.

Boy it just sounds so lovely to me. :lovestruc I'm even thinking about staying at AsSpo just to try out the Surf's Up pool. For some reason it looks like a lot of fun to me. :) Of course, going solo I could stay anywhere...

Hey there everyone. I'm brand new to Disboards, and I'm almost as big of a Disney fan as you can be. I live in the midwest, but am going to Disneyland for a couple days in March. March 14th and 15th. I'm going on my own and looking for a lady who's in love with the mouse like me. I've found it's way more fun to share the magic with someone that loves it as much as you do. I'll share pics and info with anyone interested, just write back and let me know. Thanks, and "have a magical day" :)

My wonderful DH just booked my three nights to escape the cold in NJ to go to my favorite place on earth other than home with my family.
It will be my second time going solo. I love traveling alone, but am a bit more concerned about the eating part this time. I don't enjoy eating alone but went during the F&W fest. last time so all my meals were grazing around the world. Still can't wait though.......11 days!!!!

I have been married for 17 yrs. I am going on my first solo trip in May. A few days at the parks then....Disney 14 night Transatlantic cruise.:cool1:

I have met a few other women traveling solo on our cruise meet board and we have linked our reservations to sit together at dinner.

I am nervous and excited.
My husband encouraged me to go alone after my friend changed her mind.

Jeez - nice husband! :) That sounds like a lovely trip! I'm sure you will have a wonderul and magical time :wizard:

I can't wait to do a solo trip, I just don't have the money. It is very encouraging to hear that so many married people go solo. My DH has been 3 times in the past 4 years and is really sick of it. I on the other hand, am dying to go. :headache:

I think it would be so much fun, though I don't like the idea of riding rides solo, I just think that it is only a 2-3 minute ride. Though I think if I went I would do Counter Service so I have more time to wonder around.

The only thing I would miss is saying "wow did you see that!" but no one would answer.

I (46yo married F) spent an afternoon/evening at Epcot solo and found that most of the time, riding with strangers is easy and fun. In particular, I got in a Test Track car with a bunch of tweens and they were so excited and animated that I actually sought out their mom at the end of the ride and had to tell her how much fun riding with them was.

On the other hand, I got on Mission to Mars with a foreign, silent couple who was no fun at all - not sure if they weren't into the whole "mission" or if they simply had a language barrier.

I did miss my husband at times - I called him from "France" all melancholy and he gave me a stern talking to. So I hung up, got an adult beverage, and sat for a henna tattoo in Morocco. I felt better.

I've got a longer (5 day) solo trip coming up in May - tacking it on to the end of a business trip. We've already had a talk about how I'm not to call him and just have a good time already!

Oohhhh, I am SO SO SO glad I found this thread! I actually just posted about this same thing, not realizing there was already a thread started.

As a family we were there the end of January, and while we had a BLAST (how could one one???) I would love to go by myself. To the point that I am somewhat obsessing about it, lol. Dh would like to go back "someday" where as I would like to go back tomorrow!

I haven't brought it up to dh yet, but he is always supportive of when I need a weekend away from him and the kids. What better way to spend it than at WDW?

Thanks so much for being here and understanding!!

Heidi.

Hey everyone, nice to hear I'm not "alone" ;) . I'm visiting FL for other things this March, but decided I just have to spend just one day seeing the Flower and Garden Festival. This is a perfect event for a solo trip, for me at least. None of the men in my life with would appreciate this. I can meander at will. Can't wait!

I am married, but I actually like to do a lot of things on my own. Occasionally I'll feel like people are looking at me funny, but I know that's just my imagination.

And think of the $$$ I save! In fact, I've toyed with the idea of doing a Segway tour with all that saved cash. Hmmmm.... :)

Ya that is kind of true, but I feel bad because it is $1000 for just me and for $700 more I can bring my DH and 2 kids with me. My DH says I can go if I want but how can I go without the kids??? And really I am not saving much.

I've heard several people say similar things to this. I thought about it because I haven't felt that way, and wondered why. :confused3 I think it's because I would say that to whoever is next to me :lmao:, but then I also remembered something else that I do on my trips now. I take pictures on my phone and send them on the spot to whoever I wish I could say, share or show something to. For me, this is always one of my two boys, but it could be a husband or friend or whatever just as easily. For me it was fountains I remembered my kids playing in, their favorite characters waving to them, etc. :flower3:

Great thread!:thumbsup2
I have a National Meeting to go to during the end of the week in Orlando, so I am taking advantage of that and doing a 4 night solo trip to WDW before the meeting. I am looking forward to it, but a little sad I will be away from DW for Valentines Day. We will be back at the end of the month for a family vacation, so I will make it up to her.
I am doing the Wild Africa Trek on Monday, excited about that!
This will be a slow relaxing 4 days and I plan on playing with my new iPhone and taking a lot of pictures.
I'll let you know how it goes.
