Anybody out there recently stay at SOG? I have heard good things about it, but have seen some iffy pictures...hoping somebody could reassure me that it is a good place to stay (even with no Disney theme :( )

Any idea on what area of the hotel I should request? With two kids I don't really want a pool-view room as I think it might get loud. TIA!

I stayed there last year and am checking in next Monday.

I thought the rooms and the hotel were great. It's not a deluxe but compares well to the Disney Moderates I think. Remember that you are paying a hugely discounted rate so they don't update furnishings as often-but in our room everything looked great, nothing worn out. Nothing damaged and everything worked great! I can't say the same about All Star Movies last year-which was $10 more than SoG was and the carpet was clearly worn, the fridge wouldn't keep things cold and it was so crowded. The rooms at SoG are bigger than the Disney moderate resort rooms-and certainly bigger than the value resorts. You also can't beat the quick walk over to the Poly for some quick service Tonga Toast and a quick ride on the monorail!

The staff that we encountered was great too. Very nice and they always were able to help us out when we asked.

We got a poolside room and didn't spend much time but it was a nice room and view!

This year I didn't get the poolside but did ask for something close to the garage. We'll see how that request comes out though.

Actually, Shades of Green would qualify as a deluxe (it was a deluxe before it was Shades of Green.. I think it was the Disney Inn). It has the largest standard rooms on property. It is a bit dated, but it was well maintained when we were there. It was walking distance to Poly and TTC, the buses were great. The restaurants were mediocre (and the sports bar was FREEZING!)

We'd stay there again.

We were there last January for DD29s wedding and were in the ground floor rooms that faced the Wedding Gazebo. Magnolia wing I think. They were very nice and quiet and with the patio doors, we didn't need to use the inside corridors very much, we could just cut across the outside paths. (I hate corridors--that is why I usually stay at Pop).

The rooms are large, the beds are comfy, the dresser is large, and your entire family could fit in the bathroom at the same time with room to spare. The path over to the Poly and the Monorail is easy to follow after the first time.

We did not eat at any of the restaurants, but the reception was catered by SoG, and the food was good.
