Hi! I am new, but this board seems very helpful! I have a question I would appreciate help with if any one knows the answer! I booked a trip for 2 weeks from now, my husband was supposed to be home from deployment, unfortunately, he has been extended 90 days over there. I an going to take the kids, but have a question, when I booled online, my husband was an E-5, He was promoted 2 weeks ago to an E-6. However, the Army will not give me a new ID with the new rank because my ID doesn't expire for another year and a half. So the question s this- can I tell them at check in about the upgrade in rank and they can adjust the reate accordingly? Or do they have access to thte DOD info so they will already know? Because if they use the ID as verification it will be for an E-5 rate, I just don't want to cheat the system here! I live overseas, so it is not really cost effective for me to call, so if anyone konws I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks so much!!

They are just going to look at your ID card and charge you that rate. If you feel strongly about telling them about the promotion, you can bring a copy of your DH's LES with his new rank on it, show it to them, and explain what happened.

It's so nice to hear of someone being honest! I too would just let them know at check in that your hubby has been promoted.
I'm sorry to hear about his extension. Alot of people are disappointed, and had already made plans that they need to cancel.
We are now waiting to hear of my DH next deployment date. I'm sitting on pins and needles hoping he will be able to go to WDW with us in Aug.
Let us know how your trip goes!

I agree it is nice to here of someone being honest. I would also tell them the situation and I bet they will charge you the E-5 rate. My husband is also waiting deployment orders. He is an instructor so we thought he would not have to go this time, but no such luck. We have our vow renewal planned for December so I hope he can go and get back before then. Just love the military. Oh well we military wives know that you have to be flexible with planning. Much pixie dust for your husband and family.

We just got back from 5 nights at the SOG, it was really beautiful. I am sorry your husband won't be with you but I know you and your children will have a wonderful vacation! Just be sure to take lots of pictures to share with your husband. Prayers and pixie dust are being sent your way. I would like to say thank you to you and your family for serving our country.

Roo's mom, If you wanted to wait for your husband to return, I bet if you called SOG and told them about his extension, they would let you cancel your ressie. It's always worth a chance. Same with the airlines. I have heard of them being liberal with military ressies.

Although I am sure you will have a great time with your kids, too!

Roo's mom,
Congratulations to your DH on his promotion!
I thought that SOG would have access to the DEERS system in order to check for eligibility with a SSN...
On the other hand, SOG also requires that you show your ID on check-in... So, maybe they won't know. If I were you, I would just explain the situation and they should be able to make any necessary adjustments.
Here is an email address to SOG, so you can get ahold of them with you question:

I looked at the SOG website. They say you need to provide ID or an LES upon check-in. There is a jump in rate from E-5 to E-6. I have a feeling if you explain, they will keep you at the E-5 rate. It is up to you.

Have fun. We have a trip planned for December. My husband will be deployed. Be flexible and it will all work out.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I wanted to say thank you to you and your family for all you do for our country! As a former AF brat (Vietnam era) I know the sacrifices you are making as a family.

Have a wonderful trip!!!

No, SoG does not have accesss to DEERS. We always told the guests that they needed to provide proof of paygrade and, if upon arrival, what they were telling us over the phone (or email) was different, they would be charged the rate on the card/LES. Really no need for the DEERS system as the 'proof' is all on the guest. If the guest has lied, then they get charged whatever rate they are supposed to have or, they don't get to stay at all if they are no longer eligible to stay there. :)

I just wanted to thank everyone for the help and the good wishes. We will be going back again when my husband finally does come home so we'll just get to go twice and of course we will be taking a lot of pictures to send him!! Thanks again for the good thoughts and prayers.

but my DH is an E-5 in the USAF and recently tested for E-6. I had already asked him what we'd do in that situation (since he's going overseas also), and he said even if he does make TSgt, he won't sew it on before then (meaning he won't get the new stripes and the correspondending increase in pay). I *think* that the Army is different, but can't recall - my BIL is Army and I know that their system is somewhat different than the AF but not positive.

Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there :-).
