If you qualify for SOG and want to go to Disney this year, now might be the time to give them a call. They are all booked up through 7 Jan. Which means, they have disney resort rooms at great prices (of course based on availability). We just booked the CBR for the week of Thanksgiving for $84 a night!!!!

Im SOOOO excited... we are gonna surprise the kids with the Nov trip!

We havent even taken our first trip in July and are already planning the second.. haha... I think I might need a 12-step program :)

Hey, great info.

Do you get quotes on any of the deluxe resorts?

I have SOG overflow ressies for October 2001 and got WL for 149.00 plus tax. I was quoted GF instead of 315.00/night for 212.00 plus tax night. We decided on WL just because of such a big jump for one Deluxe vs another. If you can use SOG it is great. I think about 40% off of rack.

Thanks. Yes, we are SOG eligible. We got overflow rates for the FW cabins back in '99. It is a great deal. We are using someone's timeshare this year but I was curious what kind of rates are being offered. Maybe we'll plan another trip!

Sorry to sound like a novice, but can anyone explain SOG? Sounds like great resort discounts, I'm planning a trip for October and maybe I "qualify" gor SOG? Thanks in advance!

Hi Madcat :) SOG is a Disney resort that has lodging (they also offer discounted park passes) for military families, reserves, national guard, retired military and DoD civilians. When they dont have rooms available, Disney allows them to book a certain amount of their rooms at a discounted rate.

Believe it or not, the rates they offer at the Disney value and moderate resorts is less than the SOG rate I qualify for. The SOG rate is based upon income, but the overflow rooms are a set price I guess.

I would just like to add to what Sheila said. The rates at SOG is not necessarily based on income. It is based on the RANK of the service member. There are 3 rates, with $99 being the most expensive rate for those obviously having higher ranks as well as those retired, etc. These rates do not change during the seasons like other Disney resorts do. As far as overflow to Disney resorts, I understand that these rates change during the year. You just have to get lucky.

It is based on rank or grade :) and the overflow rates change a lot. We were quoted $99 for PO-RS in July and $64 for the value resorts. Quoted $77 for value in Nov and $84 for CBR. Didnt make sense to me that the value resorts went up so much in Nov, but then, I dont know how they decide what rate to give the SOG overflows anyway. And.. based on availability you have to get them when you can!

5 weeks until Magic!!! Yay!

We'll be at the Contemporary garden wing in 14 days with the SOG overflow rate of $174+tax!

I don't qualify for the SOG rates but think it is great that Disney offers this to our Military Personnel and their families. Have a great time you deserve it!!!! Take care, Tammy:cool:

We booked a year in advance for SOG for first 10 days of August '01...and wouldn't you know it, that turned out to be smack dab in the two weeks of vacation the boss planned on using to visit family back East. You military folks know what that means...salute smartly and move your vacation!

However, we got an overflow at the Dolphin for $115 a night. That's only $16 more than SOG and is a much more appealing location for us--right next to EPCOT and all.

Lesson learned: it's always worth a call to SOG, even if you know it is going to be booked.

We are going Dec 1-8 and got All Stars Music for $59.
in feb 01 we got CS for $89. We did not like CS so we are going back to ASM , we have always had a good time there.:pinkbounc

Disney doesn't provide SOG. The resort used to be the Disney Inn. It is now on long term lease to the military as a recreation facility. Disney is wonderful - but let's not give them the credit for SOG. I'm sure they are making out very well on the lease.

Some recent rates I was quoted - including tax - AKL Savannah View 184, Beach Club Standard View 184, Grand Floridian Standard View 209. These were for a Nov trip.

If you are on a wait list, they are currently working on July. I have been a wait list since January for end of October (first 2 days not covered). Please send pixie dust......

just to clarify further, SOG is financed by the "profit" they make off of military people shopping at the PX ( which is actually non-profit). So in a way military people are the sponsors of their own benefit.:)

We decided to stay one extra night on top of our 8 nights at OKW, and were debating whether to stay somewhere cheap off-site (Priceline route) or on-site using one of the codes currently available, or SOG(since we are active duty military--and actually just found out what a great benefit SOG is through this board!)when I read your post about SOG being sold out, and the overflow offer! Called yesterday, and got AKL for $149! Really thought I want to do our last night CHEAP, but how can you resist such a great deal on this new resort?! Could have had any of the moderates for $89(I think that was the rate), and the deluxes all varied; Poly was $199, Cont., around $175, WL, the same as AKL, and so on. It was a hard choice, and may still end up changing my mind. Being members of DVC is great, but we don't get a chance to enjoy all the different experiences the different resorts have to offer! Thanks again!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
