Are soft openings generally open to the public or just to AP holders? We're in DL 6/7-6/10 and hope to luck out with Toy Story Mania. Any tips?

A soft opening for an attraction is when a new attraction is open for guest previews before the official opening day (usually a couple weeks at the most). This means that the attraction is not guaranteed to be up and running to the public (and it's usually not all day), but that it might open sometime during the day for however long they want.

As for TSMM's soft openings, I'd say late May/early June will be the beginning of them, so I'd say you have a good chance of seeing one. No guarantees though. Soft openings are for anyone in the park at the time. AP previews are different. Those are for just AP holders chosen in a lottery who are sent an invitation to ride on a specific date.

Or they can do what they did with the reopening of Mickey's Playhouse and Play Parade and only offer it to AP holders, but everyone who happened to be able to see the show/parade. So it's a mixture of both, I guess?

My guesstimate for the Toy Story is that they'll send invitations to AP holders drawn from a lottery. Not sure how in demand it will be compared to Nemo, but who knows if they'll do soft openings. I do remember that they let park guest slip in during the previews for that. (Off the record, of course.)

The hotels are a little crowded on June 8th , 9th, and 10th. There is a post on here now that says that AP soft is late May so my thoughts are that they are going to do opening with press early June. If I missed something why else would the Hotels be so crowded. My fingers are crossed hopping my thoughts are correct. We will be there the 8th thru the 13th.

THey do that, but soft openings is still different. For instance, I rode Nemo just being in hte park one day before the AP's who got the chance on their days, so sometimes it's better to just be there than win the AP drawing!!

I'm hoping for a soft opening at the end of May because we'll be there from the 25th to the 30th. :yay:
