According to Canada Post's website:

Despite the ongoing labour disruption, Canada Post, under a special agreement with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), will deliver socio-economic cheques on Monday, June 20 only on behalf of the following participating federal and provincial agencies and programs:

National (Receiver General of Canada):

Canada Pension Plan
Old Age Security
Veterans Affairs Pension Plan
Canada Child Tax Benefit

Quebec:

Quebec Pension Plan
Child Assistance
Income Security

Alberta:

Pension Cheques (from Alberta Seniors)

If you normally receive your mail at your residence or at a community mailbox and are eligible to receive a socio-economic cheque, it will be delivered on June 20.

If you receive your regular mail delivery via postal box or general delivery and are eligible to receive a socio-economic cheque from one or more of these participating agencies or programs, your post office will be open on June 20 to allow you to retrieve your cheque.

Has anyone actually gotten their cheques? We didn't receive our Canada Child Tax Benefit...

The only thing I got was my property tax bill. I would have loved my incolm tax refund

That's why I like direct deposit. Even when I do get a cheque, I'm not always able to make it to town (I live in the country) to deposit it.

Good luck all!

Haven't seen the little red mail truck around here since the Thursday before the lock out. Lots of seniors in our area too. I hope they all have direct deposit.

Can\t believe they are still mailing out cheques. Doesn't everyone use direct deposit these days?

I got my child benefit last week with direct deposit. I am also surprised everyone doesn't use direct deposit, I have been for nearly 15 years.

Like my mom who refuses to get DD for her CPP - 'but it's fun to get a cheque in the mail' :confused3 And I know she'd be first in line to complain if she didn't get her cheque! :rolleyes1

There are a ton of older Canadians that can not relate to direct deposit and refuse to use it.

My grandmother, who passed away last year was 94 and still living on her own, was unable for last few years to go out and do anything on her own. There was a branch of her bank that was directly across the street from where she lived but she refused to go there as that was not 'her bank'. So instead someone else in the family would have to drive her 20 minutes away to get to 'her bank'. We also tried many times to get her to go with direct deposit but that was also a waste of time. If she would have used the DD we would have only had to bring her some cash once in a while. She never even offered an explaination as to why she would not change things to make it easier for herself and us but my feeling is that change does not sit well with people over a certain age. I know with her anything that she did not know for her entire life was wrong and improper.

For a lot of seniors I don't know that it is so much that it could make things easier for them and their family but a trust issue. I think they like to see that check in their hands and have something real.

I agree, it is nice to get a check in the mail, who doesn't like that but it is even nicer to know it is in the bank in case for whatever reason, you are not able to get there to cash and/or deposit it. Especially when you have bills that are coming out of your bank.

I found out the the Universal Tax Credit cheque (the $100 ones that you get until your child is 6) is NOT being delivered on the special days. The Child Tax Benefit that you apply for on your income tax is. I was confused at first, but we don't qualify for the one so that was my confusion. Death benefit cheques are also being delivered, finally since I have been waiting for it since DH died in March.

Thank you! That's exactly the cheque I was looking for... the $100 one. I'm just sad about the interest I'm losing on it.

For the DD people - as an independent contractor, I work by being paid by cheque. I can't possibly give out my banking information to EVERY company I work for, especially in the internet, film and TV biz. In any given month, I could have completed work for 5 companies. And thus, presently, Canada Post is also holding hostage some of my money.

I found our Child Tax crumpled into a ball in our mailbox this morning (Saturday)...not sure when it got there though, but it wasn't in there as of Thursday (when I got our flyers).

For sure I can see seniors not going the DD route. And of course business situations like you describe.

But if you're young enough to have kids under age 6 you're young enough to figure out DD for the UCCB and CTC. ;) So much easier and saves trees!

Glad to hear that things will start getting back to normal today/tomorrow. So all that didn't get their cheques should see them over the next few days.

ouch - just b/c you put a happy face, doesn't make it any less rude :yay:

I'm looking forward to paycheques being delivered this week! oh... and my bills too.

Sorry if it came across as rude.Just trying to figure out in this digital age why people don't use quickest and most secure option.:confused3

It seems like it should be the natural choice..but there are many reason's people don't use direct deposit, they don't "trust" it, they don't have identification to open an acct (it is surprising how common this is), they are in "overdraft" and don't want a check to be deposited as the od will take it all, and for some poeple..well they just "like" to get mail etc.

Not quite a senior (52) here BUT I dislike giving my banking information to any government agency. My sons and I have had many discussions about this, and I just refuse to do direct deposit.

JMHO.
