Just curious to know if your kids (8-10 yo) play soccer games when it rains? On DS's previous teams if it rained they called the game. Well today we show up to the game thinking it will be called because of rain, but to our surprise they played and it poured....the kids were cold, wet and muddy. Just curious if this is standard practice or not.

It depends. Rec league games were canceled; travel soccer was played.

Our Travel soccer WAS called this morning, I don't think I would let DS play in the POURING rain & it was pouring!!

Travel -- yes unless it was storming or they had concerns about messing up the fields b/c it was so soggy.

Rec -- sometimes.

At our high school, the varsity but not JV practices when it rains.

This is just the local team, this is the only place they play so it isn't a travel team and it isn't run by the rec center either. I was so surprised. DS said he never wanted to play like that again, poor kid was freezing and I even put a sweatshirt on him. A couple of kids wore rain coats, but the rest were in their short sleeve shirts. I think the smart ones were the 4 kids that didn't show up.

I think it depends. If our fields are considered too saturated and the kids could fall and get hurt, then they are cancelled. If it's lightly raining/misting then they play. One year in the spring, it sleeted, rained and snowed all in the same hour!! ::yes:: We parents that were out there still talk about that one.

We were cancelled today because it was pouring and the fields were not very good at all(this city treats the soccer fields better than the kids, LOL!). However we have played in some light rain in the past, but if its pouring or lightning we will cancel.

Ours NEVER play in the rain or practice for that matter!

Unless the fields will be damaged or it's lightning, the kids play, 4 to 7 year olds, too. Soccer is an all-weather sport.

Our games were called today and there was no rain. Although yesterday it poured (as well as tornadoes came through!), so the fields were in no condition to be played on today. The league is pretty good about calling games with bad weather.

We always play in the rain - unless there is lightening. The only time soccer is called is for lightening or if the field is frozen.

Yes and no

We plan if it's sprinkling...once thunder or lightening come around, or it downpours- FORGET IT!

The older kids- they play in downpours...generally the coaches try to call the game, and the kids want to play.

Its really a safety issue, not all kids have cleats on.....and grass is very slippery when wet.

Younger kids- Pre K thru 2nd grade, they dont play even if it's just sprinkling.

These are our Rec Dept rules.

I coach the 1/2 team, this will be my 4th year, and we have always cancelled for rain.

For the younger teams in our league, they leave it up to the coaches. Some of the parents still chose to leave even if the rest of the team plays. But, as long as it isn't lightning, the official rule is they can play (at least in our league).

Soccer here is a go as long as there is no lightening/thunder. It was rather depressing calling the park this morning at 8am to hear the recording, "All baseball and softball games today are cancelled; all soccer games are on as scheduled." Yikes! It was seriously pouring. It rained and the wind blew soooo hard that sometimes we couldn't see at all. Several of the moms had their umbrellas 'flip' inside out in the wind. I miss baseball, lol.

We have sat through soccer during all sorts of weather. Monsoons, sleet, snow. I look back at the sleet game and wonder what was I thinking? I had our daughter out in that - no wonder she was cold!

My boys love to play in the rain. Both were referees for the mini micro games this morning which were shortened due to the rain. They were soaking wet when I picked them up. I hope their cleats are dry for tomorrow's game.

I was very surprised that my daughter's game today was cancelled. It never stormed. All I can think of was that a lot of the fields were flooding and if they cancel a few games, they cancel all the games.
