Soaring for women of size?

My mom and aunt are headed to Epcot for a couple of days this fall when we get off of our family cruise. I wanted to know if I can recommend Soaring to them. They are both around 225-250lbs. I wasn't sure if there would be problems with the way the ride is set up since I haven't been there myself, yet.

Anyone know? I don't want them to be embarrassed if there's a problem.
Also, if there any other attractions that might be uncomfortable for them, I would appreciate knowing.

Thanks for any info!

I cannot speak from experience (this will be my first time with the attraction there as well) but I have heard several people say that pooh-size on Soarin' was not an issue at all. Have fun!

I am pooh sized, about in that same weight range. No problems with soaring or any other ride at Disney.

I'm probably 100 lbs more than your relatives (and I'm short too) and I've had no problem on Soarin'. They should be fine. :thumbsup2

Anyone know about the same question for the "kiddie" rides? I'm not planning on riding dumbo or carpets of aladdin, but was wondering about barnstormer, peter pan's flight, indy speedway, snow white, etc. Anyone know if any of those will be a problem?

I've never had a problem with the rides at Disney and I'm about the same weight. Tell them to go and enjoy!

My DH is a big guy, about 5'10 and 260 pounds...had no problem on anything at WDW...even after eating a whole tub of caramel corn from Sleepy Hollow!!!!

There is an article ove at Deb Willis's site (allears.net) that talks in length about seat size vs. "bottom" size.

I've done all but the indy speedway, and have had no trouble.

I have decided, however, to be Rolie-polie-olie instead of Pooh-sized!

I've had no problems with any rides, including the ones in Toon Town.

I'll just say Barnstormer can be a tight squeeze in the leg department for any adult, I kept bashing my knees climbing in!

I definitely qualify as being oversized, but most rides at Disney are very generously sized, and there's never been a real problem with anything.

Having said that, however, the last time we all got in one of the teacups (DH, DS then 11 and DD then 8 are all normal in size/height) it was a bit of a challenge to get everyone's knees and feet squished in.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 4 rides that may be easy to get into, but awkward to get out of, just because your rear end and feet are on the same level. Again, it's not a size issue, but just a position issue for some people. Those 4 rides are Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter, and the familiy raft rides at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. I think my problem with those is that I try to scramble out in a hurry, only to find that everybody else is taking their time and lagging way behind me, so all my haste was for nothing.

Cheers,

I think Soarin will be fine. My only warning is for Astro Orbiter. I'm a bit larger than your relatives, and my husband is about average, and we did NOT fit happily into the Astro Orbiter. It was completely uncomfortable, laughably so. Plus it felt like one of us was going to fall out any minute. We decided not to ride that one again until I'm a size 6.
The other ride that might not be too comfortable for them is Dinosaur. You get bashed around like laundry on that one, and their thighs might hate them for it.
Other than that, they should have an aboslutely fabulous time!

Let me throw my hat into the ring by mentioning Primeval Whirl... My aunt and I are both "Pooh-sized" gals and we rode in the "car" with my uncle and cousin (16 yo)! The ride wasn't entirely uncomfortable, but it also wasn't entirely comfortable... We've gone on it again - but it's just not our favorite!

I also agree with the comments about getting in & out of Space Mtn. & Barnstormer - they too can sometimes be tricky!

I think the girls are sticking primarily with Epcot and Animal Kingdom. I'm relieved that they won't have any problems. I sincerely doubt they will do rides that spin a lot, so I think they will be fine.

thanks so much for the info. My mom is sensitive about not having enough room and I didn't want her upset if I could help it!

Love those dissers!

Jennifer

My biggest concern is always being able to lock a lap bar down - especially on "kiddie" size rides. Do barnstormer and some of the others have lap bars?

I think they will be able to fit. Here are two pictures I took last year.
