Soarin'

It's not a coaster. It's a huge hang-glider in front of a giant screen.

from www.wdwmagic.com:
"These photos show the working ride system of Soarin'. The huge suspended seating motion base sweeps around effortlessly, giving a great impression of flight."

Here's what I remember from it...for the preshow you'll be placed in rows 1, 2 or 3 with a total of about 10-12 people per row. After the preshow, you're led into the room with the screen and you'll take a seat, buckle your seatbelt, and then the chairs lift up off the ground and move towards the big screen. (Row 1 will be the highest up, row 2 will be below row 1 and then row 3 is the closest to the ground.) The seats (entire rows) will move and sway as if following the motion of a hang glider. It's a fantastic ride!!

It sounds great. I can't wait for our trip in '06. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about Soarin', Everest or Mummy at US.

How far are you actually off the ground? I can't wait to go on it, but by son says "scary - too high."

Thanks,

We 'accidentally' rode Soaring at Cali Adventure about 5 years ago...had no idea how wonderful it would be, but got off the ride , turned around and got in line again.
So excited it is coming to WDW! I loved the wind in my hair and the smell of oranges! Yum.

I am afraid on roller coasters and stuff like that but loved Soarin!!! The front row is 40 some feet in the air. The second row goes a little lower and the back row is even lower to the floor. If he is afraid of heights ask for the last row.

You will be so wrapped up in the experience you won't realize how high you are.

Oh, but the best row is the front row. ;) :cool1:
Lookin' forward to the FL version! :goodvibes

When is the expected opening date? TIA!

I think the opening date will be by May. We loved Soarin' at the CA park and we can't wait to see it again at Epcot! :earboy2:

Soft openings April 15 to April 17th for AP's and DVC members. Will most like have soft openings for general public after that.

DD7 & I can't wait to ride Soarin'! However, DW & DMIL aren't so sure. They have trouble with the 360 degree films at EPCOT. What do you think? Will they be ok with Soarin? I don't want to lead DW & DMIL the wrong way, after all I have to live with DW, and I like DMIL!

If they have trouble with watching on an IMAX screen, then they most likely will have trouble. Just imagine sitting in an IMAX theatre and being up much closer to the screen.

How much of the motion feeling do you get. We can handle, but don't much care for, movies like in Ellen, where they have the camera swooping up and down and over the water and mountains and such. Is it this kind of thing, likely to induce motion sickness???

Thanks!

I loved riding it at Disney's California Adventure. I can't wait to ride it again next year when we head down to WDW.

There is plenty "swooping" in the ride. The whole thing is you gliding over the entire state of California. If you don't like that sensation, you should think twice about riding...or maybe take Dramamine before you ride, if it is something you don't want to miss.

It is a great ride, I felt like I needed to lift my feet when we soared over the ocean and the trees. Be sure to notice the smells, you smell oranges when you glide over the orange groves and pine when you glide over the forests. When you soar over snow covered mountains they blow cold air at you. You really feel like you are there. It's fun! I can't wait to ride it at Epcot!!

If you don't like it once you get on, all you have to do is close your eyes because you really don't move around very much. The first time I went on it I had to close my eyes for a few seconds but you won't get sick or anything even if you have to close your eyes the entire time. You have to go, it's one of our favorite rides ever!
