Definitely prefer the old soundtrack, as well as the old video. As for WDW visitors hating that it ends in Disneyland, I was thrilled with that cause you got to see the park you weren't in!! It was a two for one! Plus, I mean, it was Soarin' over CALIFORNIA so where else could it end?

Semi-amusing factoid: The new Soarin video had different endings for the three parks it plays in. At DL, Tink still flies over the magical place on earth. At WDW, Tink flies over the ball. At Shanghai, Tink flies over the city (because the park hadn't been built before the video was done).

Not sure just who "every WDW person" refers to, but apparently they didn't grasp the concept of Soarin over California
Oh, we all grasped the idea about that, but, in WDW is was not called Soarin over California. It was just Soarin. The landscape, although, filmed in California could have been in any number of states. Cali doesn't have a choke hold on nice places, mountain, coastlines or barren areas. The only thing that absolutely ties it into California is the Golden Gate Bridge and the ending with Disneyland. The rest was probably recognizable to the locals in California, but, not necessarily to the rest of the worlds population. Now it wasn't bad, but, they had plenty of time to change the ending to WDW, since that is where we were at the moment. It was fine, but, it could have been made to be a little more personal like it is now with the inclusion of WDW in the ending.

Yet, every WDW person hated the original because it ended in Disneyland and not WDW.
I can't speak for anyone else, but the Disneyland ending never bothered me....it was the hair and blobs of 'godknowswhat' that distracted me. But I didn't hate the original at all. I REALLY liked it.

I don't think it's about having a chokehold on nice places but the fact that you could have that many diverse locations in one state. Where else can you have beach, snow topped mountains and orange groves? That being said I thought they had the word California in small print somewhere ... I'm not sure how I would have known before going to Disneyland otherwise... Maybe I'm crazy.

If it was there it was in very small print. At least over all the times I saw it. My point was not that California doesn't have nice scenic places, but, that they aren't the only state in the union that does. There are any number of states where those exact scenes might apply. Which is why it wasn't called Soarin over California in WDW. Many not knowing that it was originally Soarin over California really didn't know many of the location depicted but, they were sure that they weren't in Disneyland and it kind of lessened the impact. It was still a great ride and many like myself like the ride very much, but, the only complaint that was ever really brought up was... why didn't they bother to re-film that part at the end. I don't think they thought that anyone would care and as far as popularity of the attraction it didn't. Hate was probably a little hyperbolic lets change that word to critical of the ending location. When they announced that they were redoing the film all you heard on the boards was... I sure hope they end it in WDW this time.

Just as the concern over the projection on a small Imax type screen showing some tall building distortions. Well, that is a lot of hyperbole as well. It is only a few times. The polar bears seem to be real. The Taj Mahal* looked fine to me, and I liked the transitions. I didn't think for a minute that the elephants tossed dirt at us.

* I'd bet that 90% of those that complained about the Taj Mahal have never actually been to it.

Where else?... how about all along the east coast of the USA.

I mean within one state's borders. Not in an entire coastal region.
Geographically, California takes up a whole lot of the west coast. It's a result of politics not nature. Still doesn't change the fact that all those things except the Golden Gate Bridge and Disneyland can be found on this coast and that meant that it wasn't necessary that anyone know it was all in California. There was no real problem with it being from there, other then the fact that when in Florida one is not in California. It wasn't meant to be a travelogue, it was meant to go in a park named the California Adventure. No one is saying that California isn't a very scenic place to be, it just was out of place in Florida. Where's Soarin over NYC? or Soarin over Vermont. Heck the state of Florida has almost as much coastline and beaches as California. However, this isn't about the virtues of California vs. any other place. I'm not even sure what it is about anymore. I remember saying, inappropriately, that people hated (should have been critical) that it ended in Disneyland and not WDW. Location, Location, Location. Not that there was anything wrong with the show itself. In California it is appropriate, but, there are 49 other states in the union.. why would it be logical to just emphasize California when it isn't being shown in California.

Why not create a ride about California and show it outside California? It's a beautiful place as proven by the video. Not to belabor this (but I'm going to) I always thought that was one of the great things about the ride .. was that it showed such ecological differences in one state of the union (regardless of it's size). And that's why I never had an issue with the ending because it was all about California ... I don't know why anyone would hate California enough to not want to see a video about California scenery lol.

I guess I'm just weird that that fact was also a part of the ride that I appreciated.

No offense to and your point though.

I will make a final repeat. It was never a problem with it being photographed in California. Most people in WDW didn't even know that was the case. Soarin in WDW was and still is more popular then it was in California, not because it was about California, but, because it was a fun ride with very nice scenery. California had nothing to do with it. The only gripe was that it ended in Disneyland when it could have easily ended in WDW. That is what people were critical about, not complaining just critical.
