I remember a while back they were saying that they were going to upgrade Soarin to HD. Then it seemed that they were working on each side separate. Did they end up doing the upgrade or just a refurbish of the equipment. It is one my favorite rides, but I have really been wanting an HD version for years since it really seems outdated with the clarity, compared to todays standards.

No they did not complete the upgrade to HD. It is my understanding they had a technical and legal dispute with the projector manufacturer.

I've never seen an official statement from Disney that they were going to make any changes to Soarin. You may be remembering a lot of discussion from people here wishing that Disney would update the projection system.

I thought the rumor was they were changing it to Eight wonders of the World. Maybe it was a joke and I missed it

I do know they recently did some filming at both WDW and DLR for an update (in April), but I don't know what happened with the projector changes.

Epcot has a "world" theme, so I'd be okay with them changing it there. But California Adventure has a California Theme, so it should stay the same "Soarin Over California" I will be so disappointed if they change it!

They did a fly over filming of Disneyland for the ending of Soarin' over California not too long ago. I believe the camera they used was HD and the new ending to the film would not be shown till next year. But that is all i know and it may not all be correct! :)

I had never been on soarin before, hadn't been there since I was sixteen and recently went this past late November, and I adored that at the end when you went over Disneyland they had the Christmas tree in it! I didn't realize they would change it for the seasons, I like that touch.

It's Christmas year round on Soarin'! They don't change it. :rotfl:

They did overnight filming on March 11....the front desk staff (as if they know....) told us the "rumor" was that the filming was for Soarin. I know for a fact that they filmed World of Color (which was running at 2 AM...I guess that this makes it technically March 12....LOL) .... the helicopters woke me up, and I watched from my room at PPH.

They should film 20-30 new scenes around California and keep all 13 of the old scenes, then randomize it like Star Tours so there are a ton of scenarios you could experience with each visit so it makes it fresh each time. Limit it to 15 scenes total per ride.

I agree. The rumor has been that one side of SOC will show the legacy show and one the new show.

I always thought it would be cool to go from WDW and "fly" to DLR.

But I'm not expecting it!

The ride has seen better days. I was on it last week and it had a real big spot on the screen that moved around for the first ten seconds or so. I guess its on the film itself since it moves. It really took away from the ride. I found myself watching the spot move around on the screen more than the show.

Definitely correct.

Yes!! Love this idea!

Actually the spot was just some dust in the projector mechanism. Its not a defect in the film itself.

A friend is at WDW now and rode Soarin yesterday and it now has a different ending....it flies over Disney World now. Cool, can't wait to see it in October when we go.
