Have they upgraded the seat belt situation?
I've read that it really doesnt do much to keep you in the seat and that some have had the feeling they were going to slide out.

Is this a ride that should be avoided for us big guys?

We just returned from Disney and rode Soarin multiple times. At no time did I or any of my family members feel as if they were going to slip out. For the little ones they have a strap that attaches through their legs and onto the seat belt.

The seatbelt system is the similar to Star Tours and Tower of Terror. I don't see how you would fall out. For kids they have an extra loop between their legs.

Doesnt ToT have a bar in the front that goes across your lap that can be held onto? I seem to remember something about ToT going to a shoulder harness after that. I thought that Soarin just had a lose fitting seat belt for adults and that the middle strap for the kids doesnt fit adult sizes. Please fill me in Oogie

ToT does not have a lap bar now - it used to - now it's a seat belt.

We didn't feel like we were falling out on Soarin.

ToT has a seat belt. Another one I can think of that's like that is Test Track. It's a lap seat belt. I didn't think it was loose at all because once you pull it and lock it in, that thing isn't going to move at all.

We just rode ToT and Soarin this past weekend. ToT doesn't have a lap bar. The seat belts on Soarin were fine. They were tight no matter how far you pulled them out they got tight once you click them in. It's not like a lap seat belt in a car where you can pull it out and it will stay out.

OH and it's a great ride. My whole family loved it esp my 5 yo niece. She thought it was the best thing ever.

what is the age or height requierments on soarin? My DD and Dniece are 2 and 3. I really don't know much about this ride but it sounds interesting.

Okay, I'll admit it...I did feel as if I was sliding a bit. So, the next time I rode Soarin' I held onto that middle of the seat belt that kids can put the seat belt through. Nobody noticed that I was holding onto something...well, at least I don't think they did...RachelTori...oh Laura, did it look as if I were grabbing that strap?! I don't think that I was actually sliding..more of an illusion I think based on the movement of the seating platform.

No one noticed you "grabbing that strap"! I wondered why you looked so pale when we got off the ride tho!!!!!! :rotfl: (only kidding!)

I heard that at one point the seat system actually tilts forward which makes for a feeling of sliding out of the seat.
Grabbing the strap sounds like a good idea...gotta admit...I laughed when I read that part. I could just picture you reaching down for this thing and holding on for dear life....reminded me of me on ToT for the first time. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I came up out of the seat and thought i was gonna fall forward. This was when they had the bar across the front.

I haven't yet rode Sorin' at WDW, I'll be doing that in August. I did however ride Sorin' over California at DCA a coupla years back. Don't remember feeling like I was going to fall out at any time during the ride.

Is there a height requirement for Soarin? DS is 4 but tiny.
Thanks
Suzy V.

Hi Gary,
As a big guy myself (a verrry big guy), I can tell you that I road Soarin with no problems. It is a most excellent ride too!

Mike

I am 6'3"/260. I rode Soarin' several times back in early May, and never remember feeling as if I was falling out of the seat. Awesome ride! :sunny:

it puts you up in the air but it doesn't move all that much. I didn't feel physically like I was falling out but looking down was not real good as I am afraid of heights. That took some adjusting to - look at the middle of the screen. 40 in height requirement.

I really think it's just the 'illusion' of slipping that gets you. I don't want anyone to think this is really scary and miss it!!! It is a terrific attraction. I'm terrified of heights but after I got used to the 'feeling' of being up in the sky I thorougly enjoyed the ride. Did it twice and wish I could have done it again and again. I did see some pretty Pooh sized folk on there and they didn't seem to have any issues. Have fun!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to enjoy Soarin. Your posts have convinced me to give it a try.
