Soarin' Around the World!!! Did you ride it? TELL US PLEASE!!

But unfortunately, each time I rode Soarin’ around the world, I liked it less and less. There are several reasons why:

1) I could not get passed how computer generated everything was. I couldn’t stop myself from pointing out what was real and what was fake. Clearly all the animals, people and effects were fake but I felt a lot of the scenery was too – The Taj Mahal looked completely CGI to me. And the bending was awful. We sat row 1 middle twice and on the sides twice and the Eiffel Tower bending is ridiculous and very noticeable even in the middle.

I liked it less and less with each ride, too, and your point #1 was 100% the reason for me. The bending wasn't noticeable for me when we rode in the middle, but there was WAY too much CGI in it for me. Had they just left it in the transitions, I would have been ok with it, but it got to where I started to wonder if there was more CGI in it than actual footage.

I think if the original ride were also CGI-heavy, I would not have cared about it in the new version. Heck, I love Star Tours, and that's obviously not the real Naboo we're flying over But after seeing the "over California" version of the ride, the "upgrade" seemed really cheap to me.

We rode it 4 times this week. I was very skeptical going in as I LOVED the original. I'm not usually a big fan or refurbs. Having said that, I was completely blown away by it!! I thought it was a thousand times better than the original. I was shocked. I was so happy that the score was the same. GREAT job by the imagineers!!

I didn't personally enjoy the new one... As others have said there seems to be too much CGI and every cut scene has a schtick to it. A lot of things are very vertically oriented - the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, etc are all really wonky if you are to the sides which means a LOT of people are seeing bended images. I think it works much better on that type of screen if you aren't looking at huge icons - the nature scenes didn't really make it obvious when things were crooked. I already miss the original which I never would have imagined.. I thought I was really going to love this update. We were always to the side FWIW, only 1/3 of people are going to get that middle section after all.

I wonder is part of why people are not liking the new one is as a PP said, maybe because people dont feel a connection to the international locations? The old one was California so even if you had never been to California it was still All American and people could feel it belonged to them.

Nope, it's mostly the CGI.

At DLR, he was and it was the same pre-flight message as before.
