So, who broke even/came close on their taxes this year?

We just filed ours. After factoring in what we paid our accountant to prepare our return, we will "net" about $100 which is perfect in my opinion.

We owed $3700! We usually get a refund but not this year! But it is because my husband paid estimated taxes throughout the year. The company he works for had stopped deducting taxes from his paycheck as he is in sales. So we ended up owing money.

We broke about even as usual. Paying Federal $400 and getting $350 back from the State.

IMO, the problem with intentionally using extra witholding to save is that one of these years they aren't going to have it to send back. Happened in several states the last few years.

THIS is exactly the reason I try to come as close as possible to "breaking even". A few years ago NYS was announcing that they were postponing the refunds.

That stinks! Hopefully you can make a more accurate estimate next year.

We usually got about $2000 back due to child tax credit.

But, my husband switched jobs in Sept. His new job pays all medical and he got a raise and it put us in a different tax bracket.

We owe $3500 for federal and $3300 for state.

We had a similar situation for 2010 ..... this year I increased my 401K , hopefully I increased it enough to help bring us back down.

I'm so happy this year! We only owe $200 federal, $0 state. The last two years we owed quite a bit and didn't change withholdings so that is why I am so happy about this year. Our situation has been different every year, so it's hard to know what to withhold. I am going to have a little extra withheld for next year, just in case.

We overpaid by $5.53 on our quarterly. Closest ever.
