So where are we eating next? A January 2017 Dining Report *Update 3/2 Nomad Lounge & Jiko

OMG! Cakebread Chardonnay! I had that at FF in 2014. Best ever! Loving all your reviews!

Aren't they?? So are the beds at WL!
Wow I just read @pepperandchips FF review, so different from yours! It stinks her experience wasn't good but I'm glad yours was. However I don't understand your "not huge sweets people" comment :confused3 since I could eat sweets all day lol!!!

Yes I am so jealous of all these amazing FF experiences and we got the raw deal. I'm sure we'll eventually give it another shot and I am glad to see our experience was the exception rather than the rule! The restaurant is so lovely inside and in a great location!

Well you've convinced me! Flying Fish=post Dopey meal in January!!
You definitely deserve a treat after that! I think Flying Fish will be perfect!

Glad you had a wonderful time! Flying Fish has always been one of my favorites!
It is definitely on our Favorite list now. I'm planning an extended family trip for next year an I'm already preparing them to drop some dough at FF.

Wow, your dinner sounds amazing! I really want to try Flying Fish. Maybe next time we're staying at the Beach Club :)

Glad you had such great food AND service
Staying at the Beach Club makes it even better because you can just walk home! Rob was seriously spoiled by BC and now doesn't want to try resorts in other areas *sigh*

Oh don't get me wrong, I love a good dessert. I just seem to lack the willpower to turn down the yummy looking appetizers to save room! It's a character flaw, I'm aware :scared:

Your tastes seem similar to mine! All about the alcohol and the good food! Glad you loved Flying Fish! Its one of our favorites as well! The pork belly dish is my fav!
You, I like you :P It always makes me laugh when people ask why two adults want to go to Disney all the time. They clearly aren't aware of the amazing food and beverage!

Great review! I love seeing all your drink pictures!
Taking notes for my trip next month!
Stay tuned because there are many, many more drink pictures coming! :drinking1

It was seriously the best. I really need to ask my local wine shop lady if they can order it for me. I know I can order from the winery directly but I do like to support our local shops.

I saw your experience and was so sad! I do hope you give it another shot. I would recommend trying a seafood dish, even if you aren't normally a seafood person. Rob and I usually go for a steak but JR convinced us to try the restaurant's specialty and he was so right! Plus I was already disappointed that they took the Wagyu off the menu. That seemed like a better cut of meat than the beef tenderloin currently listed.

And the sad thing is, I totally WOULD HAVE ordered seafood here but based on that DisUnplugged review I was DYING to try the filet! Womp womp. I am so glad you guys had a great meal. I'm sure ours was an aberration since everyone else seems to be enjoying it so much. I really am sad though that they didn't just "update" some of our old favorites from the previous menu. I am still over here laying flowers on the grave of the pesto mussels... haha.

I love your report! Looks like you guys are having so much fun. I have an "R" too... maybe I will change his name to Rob since you and @jerseytinkerbell write such nice dining reports and both have a Rob... :rotfl:

Can't wait to see your Crew's Cup review! It's one of my faves!

Wonderful review of Flying Fish! There is an extra something that the servers at the signature restaurants have. I don't know how they find it during the hiring process but every one we have had has had that X factor

*Sleepy Hollow & Crew's Cup*
After a wonderful Monday at Animal Kingdom and the resort, we slept like a couple of rocks. What is it about Disney that makes you sleep so well? Tuesday morning came quick enough and that means it was our first Magic Kingdom day! This trip we decided to split up MK over two days. Tuesday was our left half of the park day. We got there a bit before rope drop and ambled up Main Street. We actually had time to stop for a PhotoPass picture. The photographer got this cute one of us:

IMG_1083_zpslwc00k5o.jpg

We watched the new Welcome Show (cute but I prefer the one at the train station) and headed left into Adventureland. It's our tradition to ride Pirates of the Caribbean as our first ride in Magic Kingdom. I love all the dark boat rides at Disney but this one is my absolute favorite. After learning that dead men tell no tales, we continued on our tour. We hit Jungle Cruise, Thunder Mountain, and Haunted Mansion before our stomachs started growling. And what's the best place to grab breakfast when you're on that side of the park? That's right, Sleepy Hollow for a nutella waffle! I was really naught here and did not get pictures :headache: I did steal one from Disney Food Blog for you though!

Nutella-Waffle-21.jpg

Sooooo good! I'm sure I could learn to make them at home but they just taste so much better when someone else makes it! The fruit was very fresh and the waffle was fluffy and crispy in all the right places. The perfect vacation breakfast. We stuffed our faces and headed back to Splash Mountain since it was finally starting to warm up.

Everything was satisfactual so we headed back to Main Street to do some shopping for our nephews. We have to make up for going to Disney without them! Of course, we have to also be a little mean to their parents so we found them Donald Duck bills that quack when you blow through them :rotfl: Purchases in hand, we hopped on the bus back to the Beach Club. We got off a stop early at Yacht Club to grab lunch at one of my favorite hideaways - Crew's Cup!

If you've never been to Crew's Cup, it is right next door to Yachtsman Steakhouse. It can get a little busy around dinner time when people without ADRs are turned away from Yachtsman but I've always found it to be empty at lunch and all afternoon. When we walked in, there were maybe two other tables with people eating. We bellied up to the bar and perused the drink menu. Crew's Cup has one of the better beer lists in Disney for those of you who enjoy a good brew! I went with the Delirium Tremens and Rob had the St Bernardus ABT 12, both Belgium beers that are crazy smooth despite their high ABV. I don't have pictures of them by themselves but you can see them alongside our food.

We both chose the Yacht Club burger - Signature Blend Beef, Swiss, Brandy Peppercorn Sauce, Sautéed Mushrooms, Onion Jam, Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato. Rob of course asked for it without the mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato but I had mine fully loaded. We also substituted the regular fries for truffle fries.

IMG_1087_zps2rhqd7qa.jpg

Rob's burger looks a little boring but he loved it. Mine was better though :P I've never had a bad burger at Crew's Cup. Always juicy and flavorful. But nothing holds a candle to the truffle fries. I don't know how they are so much better here but every time I try truffle fries elsewhere, I am disappointed. I think it's the roasted shallot mayo they give you to dip the fries in. Delicious! Thoroughly stuffed, we rolled ourselves back over to Beach Club for our afternoon nap.

Up Next: Hollywood Studios and ESPN Club!

We watched the new Welcome Show (cute but I prefer the one at the train station)
I'm trying to decide if I want to watch this on one of our upcoming trips, I'm just so sad about the old one going away. I've watched videos and it does nothing for me.....although being able to enjoy time on Main St. seems to be a plus.

Of course, we have to also be a little mean to their parents so we found them Donald Duck bills that quack when you blow through them
 Never thought about it but now I think I need to buy it for my youngest nephew!!! My sister deserves it :snooty:

But nothing holds a candle to the truffle fries. I don't know how they are so much better here but every time I try truffle fries elsewhere, I am disappointed.
They do look delicious! DH and I had truffle fries at the Territory Lounge at WL last August and they were heavenly. Their burger was fantastic, too! Just an FYI if you want to put someone else's truffle fries to the test sometime ;)

I'm dying to try those truffle fries at Crew's Cup! So hard to fit everything in!

If those are the same truffle fries as they serve at Yachtsman, I'm right there with you! The BEST I've ever had!!

A morning at MK followed by a beer and a burger and a nap...well that just sounds like perfection! Those burgers and the truffle fries look absolutely delicious. Will have to make our way to Crew's Cup one of these days!

Great reviews! We have eaten at Crew's Cup several times and we think it's really kind of a hidden treasure! That being said, I've never a tried a burger there! :headache:

I will have to try one our next time there. They look so good!

I've never eaten there, but it's on my list!

*ESPN Club*
Hi everyone! I'm going to try to squeeze in a quick update before I head off to work so this may be a bit shorter. I have some days off coming up so hopefully I'll be able to get a few more meals posted then.

Now where did I leave off? Oh yeah, headed back to the room for a nap. If I could have an afternoon nap every day like I do at Disney, my life would be greatly improved! Alas, this practice is frowned upon in the workplace :surfweb: After our lovely nap, I checked out the MDE app and noticed that Hollywood Studios had a TON of fastpasses available! I was able to grab one for Toy Story Mania that began in 30 minutes. We hopped on the Friendship boat and were on our way to Rob's favorite park!

IMG_1093_zps73yewh1k.jpg

I love HS at night. Everything lit up gives it a bit more Hollywood glamour. We hopped on Toy Story Mania and had a blast! After that, we kept getting lucky finding FPs for Great Movie Ride, Rock n' Roller Coaster, and Tower of Terror one after the other.

IMG_1095_zpsnngb5xjy.jpg

We had a little time to kill before the Star Wars fireworks started so we decided to check out the Launch Bay. Rob's hobby is cosplay. He goes to conventions and is part of a charity group that visits the local children's hospital dressed as super heroes. The costumes these guys come up with are amazing! Anyway, he was absolutely enthralled with all the costumes and props on loan from the Star Wars sets. He even found a cast member that was a part of the Florida 501st garrison (people who have full storm trooper suits). I finally had to drag him away to find a spot to see the fireworks.

IMG_1092_zpsvbhxcj7u.jpg

I'm a mean, mean wife, I know. The new fireworks are pretty cool, especially with the projections. Rob loved them! Afterwards, we joined the masses heading out of the park. It was a nice evening so we chose to walk back instead of waiting in the huge line for the boat. On the way, we realized we were starving. We were quickly learning how convenient staying at an Epcot resort was. We strolled over to one of my favorite guilty pleasures at Disney, ESPN club. I know it is decent bar food at best but the sports fan in me loves being surrounded by TVs, even if I don't care about any of the games on.

Fortunately, it wasn't very busy so we were seated within 5 minutes. Fair warning, I was terrible about documenting this meal. The only picture I found was of my drink :drinking1I have my priorities straight at least haha! I had McKenzie's black cherry hard cider. This was great! Light, crisp, with a hint of black cherry. The perfect option if you just aren't feeling a heavy beer or super sweet cocktail.

IMG_1097_zpsrh3p6lun.jpg

Rob had a beer. I don't remember what kind but I'm sure it was something good. We both ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese. Sinful as always but sooo good. The cheese just oozes out and the pork is always tender and has a great smoky flavor. I like mine with the coleslaw to add a little crunch but Rob has them leave it off. Here's a good picture I found on google:

Much more artsy than I could take! This was a solid meal. We left stuffed and made our way back to Beach Club. Another wonderful day at Disney completed.

Next Up: Cape May Cafe

*Cape May Cafe*
Finally, a morning I had planned for us to sleep in! I knew after two days of early touring, we'd need a later start. How right I was! I woke up a little earlier than Rob and enjoyed taking my time getting dressed and lounging on our patio. Around 9:30, we ambled down to the Beach Club lobby and checked in for our first character meal EVER! Woohoo Disney first! In the past, I've been hesitant to do character meals with no kids but so many of you have posted great reviews with and without kids that I just had to give it a try. Plus, Rob is a big breakfast fan so I knew I wouldn't have to twist his arm too hard to go to a breakfast buffet.

We were seated within 5 minutes of checking in. The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded. Our waitress came over and took our drink orders. We both ordered mimosas, that I did not take pictures of apparently. Too busy watching Donald and Minnie parade the kids around pretending to surf :jester: That was pretty adorable. Before long, Donald came around to see us. He was hilarious. It's amazing to me how much these characters can convey without speaking.

IMG_1170_zps13zqdfya.jpg

With one character under our belt, it was time for food! After circling the buffet once to get a lay of the land, I made my first plate.

IMG_1098_zpsgzppbcaj.jpg

Starting from the top and going clockwise is the breakfast potatoes, chorizo and four cheese scrambled eggs, Mickey waffe, and bacon. Everything was delicious! The potatoes were a favorite. Perfectly crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. They had just the right amount of seasoning, which added a little kick to them. I also really liked the eggs. I'm normally not impressed with restaurant eggs but the tomatoes and cheese made these much better. And you know you can't go wrong with a Mickey waffle and bacon! Rob's plate was very similar to mine, just minus the eggs. He got plain scrambled eggs instead. He ended up going back for more potatoes.

Next up, we saw Minnie and Goofy. Minnie was precious! She kept kissing Rob :love2:

IMG_1100_zps41mfi79t.jpg

They do make a cute couple haha! She also got quite excited when I complimented her beach outfit and directed me towards the Beach Club gift shop to find my own. Goofy was probably the least interactive of the three but still fun. He happily showed off his swimming trunks and after seeing our empty plates, pointed us back to the buffet to fill up.

IMG_1172_zpsptv8howd.jpg

We did go back up and grab some pastries to satisfy our sweet tooth. The cheese danishes were ah.maz.ing. I'm guessing we crammed them in our mouths really quickly as I do not have a picture of these delights. I promise next time I'll do better guys! Overall, this was a great introduction into character meals. I thought the pacing was great. We didn't have to wait very long for all the characters to come around. The food was great for a buffet. I will definitely return the next time I'm staying at Beach Club. It was so nice to just walk down the hall to breakfast instead of having to travel somewhere.

Next up: Nomad Lounge & Jiko!

Sounds like a fabulous first character breakfast experience! We have never made it over to Cape May but the characters at that breakfast probably appeal to me the most - I love their beach outfits! You are so right about the danish. We had cheese danish provided on a catered work breakfast for an event we did last week and let's just say it was NOT Disney danish! I love Disney's breakfast buffets.

My R saw the picture of the pulled pork grilled cheese from your ESPN Club installment and was like "oh that looks good!". Have to agree, it's hard to go wrong with simple comfort food sometimes.

Can't wait to read about your experiences at Jiko and Nomad! Two of my favorites!!

Our first character meal was Cape May too (also without kids) and it was the first time my husband had ever "met" characters, so he was super sceptical and apprehensive! We got the most engaging Donald ever, which totally broke the ice for my DH. We had a small white board with us, that we were using to caption photos, so we had written on it Relaxing Vacation day etc.. So Donald took the board and started writing on it that he needed a relaxing vacation day, and brought it over to the "manager" to "complain"! It was awesome, and had DH looking forward to future character experiences!!

Just finding your report, but awesome reviews and totally loving all the booze :-)
