So What's Wrong With Jiko?

Im actually a little stunned to hear so many times were open. When I called to make my ADR a couple months back I had 2 or 3 times to choose from and that was it. I took the earliest seating they had available -7:30pm.

Why dont you just take the monorail from GF to MK and then the bus from MK to AKL? And then take a bus from AKL to MK and then take the monorail back to GF from MK? :confused3 Sure you might be wasting a little time, but would you rather waste a few more minutes taking disney transportation then waste $ on a cab? I would rather waste a few extra minutes then $, but thats just me.

As other posters have said, Jiko is out of the way and it is pretty time consuming to get to (I think but I am very impatient). We have reservations for our next trip, but I am insisting that we take a cab to AKL from the GF. It is though totally worth the trip over.

We dined there on 7/19 and loved it. The filet and ribs were delicious. We also had a rib eye flat bread with pesto and I believe a pepper sauce. It was different but very good.

My ony issue came after I noticed Ostrich on the menu...and we had just had a huge one roaming around outside our balcony before we went to eat. :rotfl:

Well, they have to do SOMETHING when the animals overpopulate! ;)

JenSop -- what were those desserts you guys had? they looked really good, and i have to say that I didn't think any of the desserts on the menu sounded too appealing when I read it online It was the one part of the menu where nothing immediately jumped out at me! But those do look tasty!!

Jiko ALWAYS seems to be wide open, even the same day, along with Artist Point and Citricos. As a local, we can almost always get into one of those three for a spontaneous meal...we just call an hour or two ahead. It's probably because of the prices and the fact that you have to use two dining credits, and perhaps because Jiko and Citricos have food that's a little "froo-froo" for some people.

Yep I would have to agree...i am not a local (wish i was;) ) but we never have a hard time getting a table but the food is always excellent, however I have never been there and it be completely empty either!

We've been at Disneyworld for the last three free dining promotions.

We've never had any problem getting a signature restaurant dinner reservation the day we've wanted to dine there, except for CG. We've also had very little problem getting 1TS restaurants for lunch. The crowd during free dining restricts itself to 1TS restaurants and uses the credits for dinner rather than lunch in order to maximize the deal. I suspect most DDP users dine this way.

And yet people seem to love the ambiance of Coral Reef, with the huge aquarium there!

We tried this restaurant when we spent the afternoon at AK, then took the bus to AKL and Jikos. The appetizers (Lamb "Patis", Kalamata Olive Flatbread)
were out of this world. The entrees (Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon) were good, but neither of us cared for the desserts--I had the Pistachio Creme Brulee, and thought it would be wonderful as I love pistachio and creme brulee. I don't recall what DH had, but he commented that the other restaurants had better desserts and he was disappointed.

WE are trying Jiko for the first time in November...we were always afraid it would be too exotic, but then after some great recomendations and actually looking at the menu, we thought we would give it a try!

Try Jiko- it's fantastic- prob one of our two favorites in all of WDW. Food is NOT as exotic as you might think- everything I've tried there is flavorful and delicious. Fancier than Boma (which we also love), but not fussy. PLUS it is at the GORGEOUS AK Lodge- we also go early and make a little "safari" to see the animals.

Jiko is absolutely wonderful! Please don't change your reservation. I agree with everyone else. It's out of the way for most people (unless you stay at AKL), is two dining credits, and has some "different" food choices (as in, not a steakhouse or traditional seafood place). However, it was a great meal and my whole family can't wait to go back!

I had always heard that this is one of the best restaurants on property. So last nite I was trying to change around some of our ADRs for our December trip, and while many things were booked up, Jiko, in the words of the CM was "wide open". I was able to choose from pretty much ANY time slot! I made an early ADR, but now I'm second guessing myself. I've never eaten there, but have always heard favorable reviews...has the place gone downhill lately?

Nothing is wrong with Jiko. It is just that Jiko is not located close to or in a park, it is a short bus ride from the AK but that is not great location. Also, the menu can look intimadating and it is 2 credits for those on the DDP. We enjoy Jiko very much.
