So what's the story on the monorail?

I was just reading that the monorails will no longer run during EMH and be limited to one hour after normal park closing hours.

MK closes as early as 7pm many nights in December. Does that mean that after 8pm we can no longer take the monorail back from dinner at GF to CR?

Does that mean that when Epcot stays open until 12:30am, we'll have to take a bus back to CR?

Does that mean when MK has EMH to 11p, we'll have to walk back to CR or take a bus?

I've always rationalized the extra cost of staying at the CR was worth it because of the convenience of the monorail to/from the parks regardless of what time they closed.

If this is true, then they've really reduced the attractiveness of staying at a monorail resort.

You've got it. The MK closes at 7, monorails stop at 8.
Busses during EMH even for monorail resorts.

Epcot EMH 9-mid, means monorail stops at 10pm and its busses from Epcot back to your resorts.

On the plus side, busses always run. Monorails stop on the track for any number of reasons. You're likely to spend less time on that bus than on the monorail.

So if we are staying at the CR, have ADR's at GF for 7:30, we can ride the monorail to the GF but if the MK closes at 7pm and we finish dinner at 8:45 we'd have to take a bus back to the CR?

If that's true, then they need to start referring to CR, Poly, and GF as "Semi-Monorail Resorts".

I've done a little bit of searching, and they seem to have tweaked some of those monorail hours. You're going to have to check when you get there. Disney has two monorails to the MK: The Resort Monorail and the TTC. They may be running one and not the other until 11pm.

Unless things change there is no direct bus service between resorts. If you take a bus it would be to a park and then transfer to another bus.

I saw that too - sure does seem to complicate the logistics.

I mean, if Epcot is open to 9:30p then we could take the monorail back to the TTC up until 10:30p - but if MK closed at 7p that night, we'd then have to take a bus from TTC back to CR?

Hopefully, as they get into shorter park hour periods they will continue to run the monorails until 11p or even midnight. I can understand why they want to stop running monorails until 4 in the morning on some days, those little squirrels need to rest, but they certainly wouldn't require up to 11 hours of downtime each night in the fall/winter.

I think this is the end result of the accident when the man was killed in the monorail wreck. From what I read they changed for the safety of the cast and Disney guest.

Will the MK resort boats still run during EMH? Or do WL/CR/GF/Poly guests only have the option of taking the buses late at night?

I agree that the restricted monorail hours make the monorail resorts seem a lot less worth the extra $.

Yes, it is my understanding that boats continue.

I'm just hoping that when hours do shorten, they continue running the resort monorail until at least 10.

If you are really interested, just about every possible angle, scenario and complaint has been discussed recently (until the thread was locked)

As well as more info from the DVC Perspective.

And even inspired a poll inquiring: Should the resort monorail be reserved only for monorail resort guests?

In all 3K+ comments are represented with copious popcorn smilies.

Just passing time, while I am still waiting on the RO discount!

Just came back and yes, the boats were running to those resorts after EMH--we were staying at BLT and we had the choice of bus or walk. Some of us walked and some went over and waited for the bus. My guests were the only ones on it--although we still beat them back!!
