So, what will Washington look like?

I'm assuming that Senator Obama will be elected next week (and though I am voting against him, I hope it's not close). I'm also assuming gains in congress by the Democrats - maybe even filibuster proof - and FWIW, veto-proof majorities. What do you see happening (I don't mean platitudes about the end of Bush and Hope for America - I mean what do you really think it will look like?). I'm particularly interested in know what folks who will vote for Senator Obama think.

I believe that the White House will be painted red

That the Washington Monument will be torn down.

That the Vietnam Memorial will be blown up.

That the Mall will be divided up into small lots for free housing for the lazy and undeserving.

That Republicans will be hounded down the streets by hungry dogs.

That the Washington Post will be declared the Official Newspaper of the United States of America.

And, finally, that Mickey Mouse will be told that he must give up Minnie and move in with Mortimer Mouse.

Not an Obama supporter by any means, but first up will be passage of "check card" legislation.

Obama voter here.

According to most counts and polls, I doubt that the Dems will be filibuster proof.

I really think that you will not see it shift as far left as some want to scare us into thinking, I would like to see Obama mention some possible cabinet members b4 next Tuesday... McCain too.

Overall, I do see lots of blame. Dems will blame Bush for years, and Repubs will forget Bush and blame everything on Obama.

Results and change will be slow... If economy improves b4 next election, Dems take credit and they will be in control for a long while. If Economy gets much worse, repubs will Blame Obama and sweep the next election.

I'm not assuming that he will win. Rasmussen and Gallup both show the race at 2-3% -- within the margin error.

However, I see a rapid swing to the left for the federal appeals courts. Bush has only had 4 appeals court nominees approved in the last 8 years. At first it was fillibusters, then when Dems took control, his nominees never even got a committee hearing. There are currently four empty seats (open for over 2 years now) and it is anticipated that 4 more will open up in the next 4 years due to retirements. Since Obama has voted against every judge/justice nominated by Bush based upon ideological litmus tests, I would assume that an Obama admin would only nominate judges based upon their qualification and ideology. A super-majority would result in swift approval of all judge nominations. I don't expect to see a lot of change in the Supreme Court because the two expected to retire are left-wing.

BTW-- Did you know that McCain voted to approve Ginsberg and Stevens? He didn't agree with their ideology, but they were qualified to serve, which is what the senate is supposed to do.

I agree completely.

I don't think the practical swing will be as far left as some fear either. I don't think that Democrats or Republicans are stupid by virtue or coincidence of their party. Therefore, I think the Democrats will have learned, for a while, from the mistakes the Republicans made since 1994 - assuming the argument was over. Governing from the "wings" always makes the pendulum swing faster and farther the other way.
