So what do you think the "waiting for bus" etiquette is?

So you approach the resort bus stop. There are several people just sitting on the benches, their choice. You make a decision to go over to the curb, where the bus typically stops, and you wait. You become the first person in line now. Correct? I'm not sure. I've been going to DW since 1999 now, and I've never quite known the right thing to do. Do you give the people that are sitting on the benches the first opportunity to get on that bus, or is it okay to wait at the curb?

besides at most WDW resort there is no way to tell which bus these people will want.

Maybe Im wrong, but I just stand by the curb and wait for the bus, I mean, you all are going to the same place right?

*Unless a bus comes for a park Im not going to, then I step out of the way to let others on.

*If the bus is full, I will stand and give my seat to anybody that looks like they may need it.

Most areas have ins and outs. I think if they aren't in there, then you are first. I tend to sit down sometimes with DD and DH waits in line but if it is empty, we don't care about a few people in front of us in line and just relax on the benches. If we notice more people are starting to get in line, we get up and wait.

So I guess, whoever is in line first, is first. Who knows if they are even waiting in line anyway.

Whenever my parents and I wait for a bus we always wait for it to come to a complete stop and assuming no one with an ECV needs to get on, then we will get in line.

First of all, I think it's a little different at the resorts than at the parks, where you board a bus back to the resort. The resorts (or at least the ones I'm familiar with) do not have any kind of ropeline to form a queue. Most of the resort bus stops at the parks do, so it's best to actually get in that queue at the parks, than sit on the benches nearby.

I suppose you would be first in line if you went right to the place where the bus stops (assuming the bus doesn't over or undershoot this point), as sitting on benches can hardly be considered "waiting in line."

However, we always just sit on the benches. We've never had to wait for a second bus to our destination at a resort, so it always seems pointless for us to queue up in a line, when we know we can sit, be comfortable, then board the bus when it arrives, though we will likely not be the first on board.

Being first on board versus being the last on board will not get you to the parks one second faster.

IMHO if you are sitting on a bench, you are not waiting in line. It is anybody's guess what bus you are waiting for, or if you are waiting for another member of your party to show up. If I am sitting and a large line starts to form, I will get off of my hiney and join them.

Well we never rush the 2nd it stops so we can be the 1st ones to board. Sometimes we are the 1st ones on the bus and other times people have got on before. Besides if you read my 1st comment I said how we always sit on the benches and don't wait by the curb, so please don't try to twist my comments around.

I suppose I would not, unless those people sitting had some physical reason they could not stand in a line. A line is a line, and benches don't count. Again, I would let people who have physical and/or boarding issues get on first, no matter where they are standing or sitting.

But there has not once been a situation in my experience where it has been an issue. We just sit down, then board the bus when it arrives and hop on a 1/4 filled bus with maybe 10-15 other people, after which it is still usually only about 1/2 full.

Well, technically, this may be true. I guess now that I think about it, BC buses to MK were always packed when we stayed at BC in 2004, because of all those other stops they made at other resorts nearby. That was my biggest frustration staying at BC, to be honest.

But we have always stayed at MK area resorts in our other trips. The MK transportation is taken care of by other means that haul more people at those resorts, and the buses to the other 3 parks and elsewhere are never crowded at all, it seems, at those resorts. So in those resorts, while these points about bus etiquette may be technically true, they are pretty much moot, because you will catch the first bus to your destination there, without a problem. So everyone pretty much sits on benches.

That said, if all the benches are taken, which happens often as there can be a hundred people total waiting on a bunch of different buses, taking up the seats, we will go ahead and queue up for the bus. There's nothing else to do, really, unless you want to walk away and come back later.

most people who have trouble walking are going to be in wheelchairs or ECV.

the bus drivers ALWAYS take them first.

the resort will supply wheelchairs for people who need them.

My husband and I fuss about this all the time. Of course I lived in Washington DC for 2 years while going to college and had to fight my way through tourists just to get to class (haha) anyway - If there is a seat I sit at the stop and people never let me on first even if I am there before them. Now with that being said if I see the bus, I hop up and am ready to go...he is a bit pokey. But I do not get mad if someone gets in line and I am on a bench-
I just figure if there is no seat at the stop then I will get one on my way to the park...it is a trade off. Of course ppl w/ disabilities, elderly etc...would get seat priority!

besides you are NOT in line.

too many times the people on the benches were waiting for another bus, or just waiting for a person. the ones who wanted to get on the bus got up and got in line (at the end of the line)

Well I get the question as it happened to me. I walked up to the stop and everyone was sitting. Just as we got there our bus pulled up and I was standing there and got on 1st. I wasn't sure if I should let the others go or not. But like the others said....if you wanted to be in line, you should be IN LINE. I didn't know which bus they were waiting for. So I just got on.

one of the things about waiting for bus - you must get in line. If you don't want too - then be prepared to get in the end of the line.

have been going to WDW for 35 years - only one time did a person ask us if we wanted to go first. but we were waiting on another bus. I had knee surgery a couple of weeks before and it was obviously.
