So, what do you think is on the chopping block for proposed Nintendo area?

I highly doubt they'll base a third gate on nintendo, so it stand to reason that something must go to make way.

My bet is on toon lagoon and/or Marvel.

They can continue with the comic book marvel but kids (and adults alike) are going to slowly stop associating the Marvel characters with their comic book counterparts as long as disney continue to pump out live action movies.
And toon lagoon... How relevant are Popeyes, Betty NOOO and pals anymore.
Yes before you flame, I know that there are people who still love these characters, but that will continue to wane as years pass and it seems (by the rides and attractions at Universal) that their target audience is teen, young adult and those who love thrill rides. It needs to be updated, and I can see them repurposing some rides to fit nintendo.
Maybe a Yoshi Coaster (Hulk)
Donkey Kong water ride?
I've not done Spider-Man and I know it's meant to be an unbelievable attraction, but can it have an overlay and be the same in concept but a different theme?

What are your thoughts?

Some else mentioned the Fievel play area as a possibility.

I do like your thoughts though. Neither area really says anything to me personally.

Forgive my ignorance, but is that the area by ET in the studios?
That seems like a good place, however I'm not sure Nintendo fits the theme?
I know IOA is booked based but is game consoles that much of a stretch? Or maybe it is closer to movies and would fit better in the studios?
Now I'm confused. Lol

I think it will replace Kidzone. There is a large area between Simpsons and Men in Black that can be tapped into from there as well.

It won't be like Spiderman since Transformers is like Spiderman.

If anything the Marvel branded attractions will continue to be popular when movies are released. The new Avengers movie features the Hulk. I don't see Universal letting their rights go.

Not sure relevance (subjective at best based upon individual guest) is best criteria to determine an excellent attraction. It's the actual execution that makes a attraction come to life.

imo there is wasted space between Spiderman and where the attractions start in toon lagoon. However, not sure if the footprint is big enough to build a major attraction there.

my best guess is barney and all but ET will be replaced. (Spielberg is the executive creative consultant and has repeatedly stated he doesn't want to see ET close). Wouldn't be surprised if the stadium for the pet show is repurposed.

Rumour is that there is another Marvel ride coming that will either go into the Toon Lagoon theatre area or replace Doom.

Yeah I think the whole Barney/Fieval area could go. We walked by there and it was deserted. There were plenty of toddler age kids in the parks that day, just none in that area.

replace doom?

:sad2:

:sad1:

Well you can't replace this Doom but I did hear that nasty rumor of the Dr.Doom tower closing just the other day before anything on the Nintendo additions were announced. It also said to expect a Hulk retheming,I don't like either rumor but can deal with them as long as they get a good replacement for Doom and a good retheme for Hulk.Is there even any space to add anything worthwhile where Doom is at?

personally i got the impression that universal is partnering with nintendo because universal's marvel contract will be up soon and disney probably doesn't want to negotiate a new contract with universal since they are rivals.

i see retheming of rides in IOA.

No. Universal's Marvel contract is "in perpetuity." There is no need for "renewing" or negotiating for continued usage.

There are rumors that Disney and Universal are having talks, to work out some of the "ambiguity" and that we might soon seen new Marvel presences in both IOA and WDW some time soon. Rides for IOA, minor stuff for WDW, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.

Universal can use Marvel in its parks forever unless they choose not to.there is no contract to change. With its popularity I doubt Marvel is going anywhere.Disney knew this when they bought Marvel. I think damo is right.Kidzone ( fievel, Barney, Curious George) has been rumored to be on the chopping block for awhile. I think that is the most likely place.Especially if you approach it from an "adding attractions to each park standpoint"

Agreed.

Comic books are getting bigger and bigger. They aren't dying because of live action movies, not at all.

That area hides kids, though. It can look deserted until you get in there and realize that you have a full, but invisible from the outside, line for Barney (with a whole theater filled while the show is going), and there are ball wars happening behind Curious George, and there are kids playing in Fievel.

I, too, think ET will stay. They just have to move the entrance and it won't even seem like it is in that area.

i'll be sad when and if it goes......

the rumors of fieval playground being leveled for other things, has been around for a few years.
it is a large area and i could see better and bigger plans for that entire section.

Please get rid of the Marvel stuff. The Rob Liefeld era art is awful.

Honestly, I'd rather them get rid of the kids area to expand Simpsons land at US, and see Marvel/Toon Lagoon both torn out for the Nintendo area.

Also... :( because Disney could have done so much more with that license. (Or by buying Nintendo outright, a move I've long supported.)

never have been on it, the whole fear of heights thing. no problem with ToT but imo Doom is really scary. would be surprised to see it go

Tom is the same. Well, he goes on it but it's the only ride he is kinda nervous on......thinks he's just gonna fall out............lol......I'm not great with heights but love this ride all the same......did take me two visits to go on it though.

Would be gutted if it went......unless it's replaced by a taller better one........says me that doesn't like heights!!

I vote fievel/Barney area for revamp too. And yep Marvel ain't going anywhere :thumbsup2

I'd also agree that we'll likely see MORE Marvel. Not less.

Would love to see them lose aged attractions like Twister and Disaster, but I can't picture what's in the immediate vicinity around them. Even MIB would be a good one to replace.
