So, what do you all do with your hardback novels after you read them?

I checked out ebay and it doesn't look like books are a very hot item over there. I just don't know what to do with them. I don't have a whole lot of hardbacks, but the ones I have I don't intend to read again...

Mine are currently filling up huge bookshelves in my bedroom. I really need to sell them or give them away but I just hate parting with most of my books even if I know that I will probably not read them again.

Do you have any Half Price Book stores in your area? I'm not sure how much you would get for them but it might be worth checking.

My parents live in a senior citizen apartment building and they have a small library in the community room. I donate most of my hardcovers to them.

I've been giving them to our local thrift shop....get a little tax deductions.....I figure I'll never have a house with a Library and I don't really have room now to keep them.....And if I ever did It would be because I won the lottery so...I just buy more books...:D

I try to avoid hardbacks but I usually get some for Christmas and stuff like that, I donate my hardback books to either our local library or the library at one of the hospitals :)

I don't know what to do with all my old books and I won't part with them. I must have 20 storage boxes full of books upstairs and I have 6 bookcases packed full of books downstairs. It's my worst obsession. I buy books like most women buy clothes or jewelry.

If I have no intention of reading the books again I sell them to half-price books or I just give them away to various places like churches or senior centers or something like that.

A kindred spirit!!!! We actually have "books" as its own line in our budget. :)

I donate paperbacks, but I usually hold onto hardbacks. I left a whole bunch of family-type magazines in a doctor's office that only had Field and Stream type magazines! :p

Books are a very hot item at garage sales. Also in our area you can donate books for a huge sale downtown, for charity. Happens once a year. Kinda cool because all the libraries are the drop off places.
Maybe you might find a place that is doing something similiar.

Alas I could never part with my hardbacks.

I have two bookcases full of hardbacks. I really collect by my favorite author, so I have some paperbacks too. I usually try to sell my paperbacks at garage sales or I donate them to charity. There is no way that I will part with my books!! I also buy books like *********** said.:)

So glad to find out I'm not the only one!!

I'm another one that has "books" as a separate line item in Quicken. I would be embarassed to tell anyone how much I spend on books every year. And I'd rather buy the hardcover than the paperback.

I just keep buying more bookshelves. And if someone wants to borrow a book, I'll usually just tell them to keep it. I have some favorites that I'd never part with.

try www.half.com, I have bought and sold books there...

Or donate them to the library/womens shelter....

In the case of Harry Potter hardcovers, I gave those to DS's school library.

Return them to the library. I very rarely buy books, I read so much I would go broke.

I am another half.com user...i sell and buy most of all my books from there, and it definetely pays off..there USED to be a website called switchouse.com that was a swapping sorta site...you would just switch your stuff with someone elses--a big sharing network, but i dont think its up and running anymore. :)

Same here Becka. I have tons of them, but I don't want to get rid of them... and so the number continues to grow. I can't beat the thought of selling them for a song when I spent so much on a novel. LOL...
