Have you seen the commercials from Kelloggs and (I think) Post talking about eat ceral everyday and lose 10 pounds? I thought I'd give this a try and have had ceral for two meals a day everyday for 7 days. I've lost 7 pounds! If I keep this up along with walking, I might be on to something. For my other meal, it's been something sensible, and I try to make sure it includes fruits and vegetables. What do you think about this?

I'm just curious - what meals do you have your 2 bowls a day for? I'm assuming breakfast is one of them. :)

I was thinking about trying this, but I'm worried I'll be SOOOO hungry! Do you still snack?

If you can keep with it, and not get bored of the cereal, there is no reason why it wouldn't work.

If you read the studies about the "cereal diet", what it comes down to is calorie/portion control, just like any other diet. You are also drinking 2 cups of milk in the process, which has also been shown to help weight loss (even though there are conflicting studies on whether it really was the dairy, or a combination of that and reduced calories)

So, there's no magic anything in the cereal that makes it a better diet, but it does help with watching calories!! By the way, the original study was funded by one of the cereal companies (I think Kellogs, since it actually was centered around Special K)

Yes, breakfast is one of my cereal meals. Most days I did cereal for lunch. It depends I what's going on that night. If I know everyone will be home and having dinner together, I'll have cereal for lunch and a real meal for dinner. If everyone's going to be scattered, or DH is preparing one of his crazy meals that DS and I won't touch, I have a meal for lunch and cereal for dinner. DS is OK with something quick and easy like a quesadilla or soup and sandwich. I'm being careful not to let him slip through the cracks with this thing.

Changing it up like that has kept it from being terribly predictable. I'm switching between cornflakes with bananas (real bananas, not the cornflakes that come with bananas--oooh) and cheerios and bran flakes. I'll throw oatmeal into the mix this week. I'm figuring these cereal meals have virtually no fat (skim milk only for me) and calories, maybe 150. and hey, I can have seconds and only hit 300 calories! Plus, I love how quick and easy meals have become. Cleanup's a breeze!

We'll see what happens this week.

also, a special K like cereal is usually going to be more healthy for lunch than fast food or chips and other high fat foods.
Just keep an eye on portion sizes, and make sure you are getting all your nutrients- plenty of fruit and veggies.

I forgot to answer the snack question, jedi librarian! I haven't really been getting hungry. Maybe because of the whole grain and the fiber business? I do a lot of driving at work and I do keep pretzel sticks in my van. I got into those once last week, but really only had less than one serving. And, bigolive9, when I consider all fast food i usually grab while working--like I said, I'm in the car a lot- I figure I can't help but lose weight if I trade all that for cereal.
