>Has anyone done this lately?
Yes, and it has become more popular since "Wishes" started in October.
>We did an Illuminations Cruise last trip & loved it. Was wondering if the MK version would be as nice.
It is different. Whereas at IllumiNations, there is very little to do and see before the show, Crescent Lake, Swan Dolphin, MGM and the BoardWalk.......
While at The Magic Kingdom, there is the LARGE Bay Lake, all the resorts, the Wedding Chapel, and if your lucky the Electric water Pageant.
>Where do they leave from?
Just about every resort, although most of the boats are "issued" from Wilderness Lodge, so if you are not staying at a monorail resort, you may as well request a WL departure.
>Is it the same kind of boats?
Except for The Grand One, which is a large luxury cruiser, all the fireworks cruises are on Party Pontoons, just like at IllumiNations, it's just that they use a few of the smaller boats (20 footer?) while at IllumiNations it is almost exclusively the larger (24 footer?) pontoons. Oh, they also have two large boats called the MK 1 and the MK 2, and they are used in conjunction with the Magical Gatherings groups (I rather not discuss these boats).
With that said, let me add that Wishes is a beautiful presentation and the view from the boat (parked out in Seven Seas Lagoon) is unmatched! You get the full effect with the castle strategically centered inside the fireworks. I can't stress enough what a difference positioning makes with this show.
