I just turned on the evening news and heard the one of the most saddest things. New Hampshire has lost it's 'Old Man in the Mountain'.

The old man was the symbol of NH. And, probably one of the most photographed places. It was beautiful sittin high in the sky above profile lake. He was one of the natural wonders of the world and for some unknown reason nature and God have taken him away from us.

I am so glad I photographed him when ever we visited up north. I remember when I was little and we would say 'Dad please stop so we can see the old man. And thankfully dad would stop each and every trip we took up North so we could sit and gaze up at the old man.

You will be missed.

Laura

Guess I'm not familiar, who or what was 'Old Man in the Mountain'? What happened?

We vacationed in the White Mtns & Franconia Notch last Sept. I have yet to scrap those pics. The ones of the "Old Man in the Mtn" will now be treated a little more special. Who would of thought he would never be there? So sad. I always enjoyed looking for him too as a little girl when passing thru the area to snowmobile even further north. :(

That is sad. Just read the article. Thanks for the link.

hi,
my family have been going to NH for vacation for a few years now, and the old man has always been a source of awe to me. Sometimes things exist in nature that are just amazing- I remember pointing out to my kids how incredible the old man was. So sad when something like this happens- we need to have special things like this in the world. I'm glad to see that other people also feel the way I do. Thanks for posting this link- I've been away and would have missed the info- it would have been a shock to drive by this year and find out it was gone!

I live about an 1 1/2 hours away from Old Man and it was always a symbol of NH since I was very little! I always remember looking up while driving by...even now, at the age of 32, whenever we pass it, I will look up and check it out...it is almost habit...

Old Man will definitely be missed by me :(
