So, Popeye is on....

and there are lines that I never noticed as a child but that are funny now. Like when Wimpy was taking Sweet Pea for a "walk" and actually takes Sweet Pea to the races. As Popeye and Olive Oyl enter the "den", Popeye says, "Don't touch anybody you might get a venerable disease".

I love that movie! Saw it when I was little in the movie theater. I remember thinking that Sweet Pea was the cutest baby I had ever seen and I hoped when I had a baby, it would look just like him and he did!

Such a cute movie and Robin Williams makes a great Popeye- wonder how he got his eye to stay shut the whole time they were filming?!

The ending is corny though- seriously, an octopus?

I remember thinking the same thing when I watched it! I didn't think I had ever seen a baby cuter than Sweet Pea!

Well yeah- I didn't say it was a good movie!
It was good when I was 8 back in 1982 but cute in a cornyish and nostalgic way now. I still think that Sweetpea is adorable!

This is actually a very funny movie. It's too bad they destroyed it with the AWFUL songs! (Popeye cartoons are also a lot funnier to me as an adult than they were as a child.)

My ds3, was screaming at the tv, "OPOPUS, OPOPUS!!!" He was so worried.

It was considered to be a huge flop, and did get terrible reviews . . . but we've always liked it!!

I've heard that Robin Williams was saying all kinds of wisecracks and naughty things under his breath when Popeye is muttering and mumbling. They are mostly unintelligible, but I'd LOVE to know what he was saying!!!
