I thought that today was supposed to be "summer codes" day...but alas, there is NOTHING! Foiled again!

It's going to kill me to pay rack rate this summer! Should we just stay off-site or pony up the $$$?

What are you going to do if codes don't come out?

I'll still be going to the same resort for the same number of days, even if there are no codes. I don't book the room unless I'm prepared to pay the price quoted at the time of booking. If I get a discount, it means more money to spend on meals or extra money to save for the next trip.

I think of "rack rate" as sort of a savings account. I have already paid for our room and if codes come out and I get the rate reduced, I will leave it with WDW for extra spending money when we get there.

Guess I'll have to sell one of the kids for scientific experiments for the $$....

Most likely the 27yo perpetual student... I know that boy's brain has to be worth something with as much tuition $ as DH and I have pumped in to it!

:rotfl: HAHAHAHAHA!!! :rotfl:

Unfortunately there are alot of people out there who CANNOT go or stay onsite unless they get a discount. Not everyone can afford rack rate

Hi!

If codes don't come out I still will be going to Disney :cool1: This is why I plan way in advance - I make sacrafices through out the year and don't worry about anything else

2005 - POR June/July
2003 - AS June/July

What I would do is book both as long as you can get your money back 100%. Pay attention to the cancellation policy and make sure you follow it. This way incase there are no summer codes at least you will have somewhere to stay at a price you are willing to pay. And if the codes do come out, cancel your offsite reservation. Good luck. I honestly think codes and discounts are going to get to be fewer and further between with the increases in travel.

We have learned that we can go to Disney more often by staying off site. We have stayed on site at Ft. Wilderness Cabins and the All Stars. We have stayed off site at a DTD hotel, and have rented time shares twice. I know that this is not something that everyone is willing to do, but is definately something to consider. :)

If go this summer we is considering doing offsite this because we won't check out the outlet malls and flea markets In Orlando. I know me and mom spend a day of looking around at the different outlet malls and flea markets and never get boring.

I can book a offsite hotel that offer a light breakfeast that save dollars of food. I don't eat much for breakfeast except for pastry, and fruit head out door. That way only pay for 2 meals.

There is always cheap things to Orlando to save money.

I would definitely stay off-site before I paid rack. On-site is nice, but only worth it for me if the price is good. We love our trips to Disney, both on and off-site and off-site has some definite benefits especially when we stay in a timeshare: more space to spread out, kitchen to at least make breakfast, saving lots of money.

I know some people feel they lose part of the magic by staying off-site, but personally, I feel alot more magical when my kids are well-rested because we have room for them to not wake each other up at the crack of dawn and my husband and I have some private space where we can cuddle :p

Just my 2 cents, but I say go, stay where you can afford (after you've checked it out on Tripadvisor!) and your trip will be amazing.

Codes would be nice, but I always try to budget without them. One nice thing about renting DVC points, I know I already got a great discount.

canwegosoon, I agree with you, I think codes will be few and far between. The onsite Universal hotels have drastically cut their discounts that they are giving. I planned on staying 4 nights onsite Universal, but will only do 2 now. RPR is $210 w/ AAA discount & $211 with APH discount for my dates in August.

There are 2 threads on the resorts board about codes for ap and Fl res coming out on Sun. They even list the letters. If that is true then room only could follow within 2 or so weeks. I hope everyone finds the right rate for them! :teeth:

We have booked POP and will stay POP. If the codes come out and we react quick enough, we will try to get into a Mod, preferably POR.

But I figured this was the safe way to go, and I do really like POP anyways.
