So much Disney food is terrible

Cape May is pretty bad too. Definitely not a place to go out of your way for. The best buffet is probably Boma though I didn't love the breakfast. Dinner is solid though. I've heard good things about Tusker House but to be honest if I'm in AK I'm going to Nomad Lounge (which has gone downhill food wise but drinks are still great).

Also agree about the pastries. They're so stale and bland.
Oh yes, Boma! Well worth the cost! I forgot about that one.

Not surprised that Cape May is no good anymore.

Cape May is not bad as breakfast buffets go. I was there two weeks ago and had a pretty tasty omelette from the omelette station. Also IMO their briskets and gravy are passable.

Totally agree on Boma. Nothing comes close.

Monsieur Paul is a $195 prix fixe. Not going to happen. Flying fish - $50 bucks for scallops. Maybe (maybe) these menu items taste good, but there’s zip for value. We spent $100 at boathouse tonight for good steak and drinks for three.

So, it's not that you don't like the food, you just don't want to spend any money yet decided to vacation at an expensive vacation destination. What's even the purpose of the original post then?

I’m not actually looking for recommendations on value options - although it’s very nice that people are volunteering them. My main complaint/vent is that most of the quick service options I ate were not good. I like Disney, but am getting tired of the crap food options being the norm at quick service.

The Polynesian should improve its quick service options (and I assume if I’m complaining about the poly and WL, many other resorts also have crap quick service).
Most of the quick serves are pretty bland. Now my kids eat things like chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and mickey waffles so the quick serve is fine for that if we use it even though the prices are higher than the quality of the food. Since we are usually on the DVC side we typically will go grocery shopping at Target when we arrive and buy things we can make for breakfast like oatmeal, bagels, cereal, etc... and occasionally lunch. Its cheaper and quicker.

We do enjoy Bomas for breakfast. They have a ton of food and the prices are reasonable since it is not character dining. If you go to WL again Geyser point is a decent option for lunch/dinner and you can place a mobile order there.

I think groceries might be the key. We’ve eaten at Geyser Point lots - that was our go to when we stayed at WL.

Well, on Thursday I had Seafood Trofie Pasta at Flying Fish and I thought it was delicious! Could have used more pasta, but I was satisfied.

right? It would be one thing if it was terrible and cheap, but it is not. Exception is the festival booths at Epcot. Learning all about Uber Eats on this trip to avoid Disney food. And hat tip to Disney Springs, which is not Disney food.
It's all food court food. Some of it is stale. They can't even serve a decent meal at a table service restaurant. I swear it all comes from the same place. For example, garlic mashed potatoes and season vegetables out of one huge vat that's distributed to as many restaurants as possible.

Breakfast isn't bad, but tater tots with breakfast? Seriously? Even their pastries have lessened in quality.

It's beyond me why anyone thinks their food is great or even good, unless these folks only have chain restaurants in their home towns to depend on ... but even some of those are better.

And what makes it all weird is how excessively concerned the cast members are with portion sizes. It must be that their training and management is so severe about the need to control the portion sizes. It's ridiculous and rather creepy. Let chefs and servers take pride in their work. But no, I literally saw one cast member remove a single green bean (yes, 1 green bean, I kid you not) from a plate because she thought it was over the portion size allotment. Insane.

I’m not comparing it to the cost of McDonald’s - that’s $10 bucks a head. Tucker house is $40 for a child and $60 for an adult. I’m happy to spend that kind of money on a meal (as I did). But only if the value is there and in my opinion, the value is not there.
You're absolutely on point. There's no value there. It's mediocrity, at best, at a premium price.

If you haven't dined at Monsieur Paul, how can you diss it? We ate there this fall and it was the highlight of al the restaurants we dined at. Very close to V&A. Is it expensive, yes, but not out of line with any high end restaurant in Chicago or other large city. Flying Fish is as good or better than any high end Seafood restaurant we have dined at on either coast. I'm calling BS on the 3 steaks and drinks at boathouse for $100. By their menu, the cheapest steak is $38. Without sides or drinks.

I love tater tots for breakfast . Just bite sized hash browns.
Have you tried the breakfast totcho bowl at Contempo cafe? It's pretty good! I can't even finish it myself, I would need to share. Pretty good value. Their breakfast flatbread is also good.

Just curious...where do you go eat at your hometown?

Not all food at Disney are good, it really depends on where. Some I will never bother again, but some I keep going back to. I think unless you've tried every single restaurant, QS, cart...otherwise I'm not sure if you can't say they are all horrible.

I had one at the All Star Music. It was yummy and I did end up sharing with my sister.

Spent a week at WDW 3w ago and then again this past weekend. Are the whiners eating at the same restaurants I am? Narcoosee's Friday was amazing! The worst meal weve had was Yak and Yeti.....and it wasn't bad....it was just a let down considering everyone here seems to love it. I'm a Tiffins guy but figured I'd try it again after many years.

I think all these dining threads basically come down to two things ......money and lack of the concept of supply and demand. That's as politely as I can say what I think

I have always wanted to eat there, but will scratch it off our list after watching the latest WrightDownMainStreet review. It looks absolutely awful. The cheese plate has to be a joke.

Staying at the Polynesian. Everything we have eaten on the resort is terrible.
We didn’t know about the mahi mahi fish tacos poolside. They look delicious. The sushi at Kona was horrible and extremely fishy/stale. Vegan Kona pineapple cake and dole whip are most do.

They need to up the ante esp at deluxe resorts to keep people eating onsite. When we stayed at the GF (7 years ago) they had a fish sandwich that was huge. Now the menu looks bland.

Art of Animation used to have their own in house Tandoori with hot naans, noodle station and crab cake burgers.

They should also offer mini doll cakes at CRT if the original is too time consuming, although you can add special desserts like the lost slipper, cupcake trio at BoG etc

Sanaa had a dessert trio that included chai cream (tasted just like a chai latte) and bison masala (authentic curry that had some heat to it).

Our upcoming list includes some signature and favorites. The ones I’m worried about are Chef Mickeys and 1900 park fare, both at deluxe resorts! Ohana we know will have inedible beef and I am not a fan of their excessively salty bbq sauce on the meat.

Is it possible there was another reason the CM may have decided to remove that single green bean?

So they put the green bean back in the pot where it came from ... to serve it to someone else. It's not like they threw it in the trash.

What restaurants do you enjoy?

I've tried so many of them. I do like Chefs de France and Tutto Italia. BUT....I wouldn't say the food is exceptional. It's a nice experience.

At home, have a whole host of independently owned restaurants to choose from that are good.
