(Yes, another MJ thread, I am sure there have been a lot in the past day...I have read little of them)

.....songs, and videos, from Michael Jackson.

Over the past 24 hours, the news, both radio and TV, have obviously been inundated with Michael news, and along with it, so much of his works from over the past 40 years. We have all seen them over the years, and I am talking of his works, his music (sound and lyrics), his dancing, his videos, the professional side of the man, so wonderful as it was; not his personal life, so tragic as it was.

I am reminded, as I see or hear each new piece, how dominating a professional career he had. He has been out of the musical limelight for a number of years. Mostly what has made the news the past ten years or so has been his personal side.

So many wonderful pieces, again, both music, as well as pioneering dance and videos. As I hear/see each one, I say, 'gosh, I sure recall that one, I think that is my favorite.' Then, an hour or so later, another, as breathtaking as the previous. It really is a joy to listen and watch these songs and videos again.

He was one of a kind, certainly in more ways than professionally. And it is his professional side that I think will live on, personal opinion it is.

Whatever is said about MJ as a person, Michael the man, will be left for history and most likely a much, and never-ending controversy and various opinions. His works, his career, all of it, will live on in the entertainment world, probably forever.

Thriller stands on a plateau of its own. Many others do too.

Of the many that I have seen or listened too the past 24 hours, this one, 18 years ago, is yet just another, so unique, nothing like it before, probably not since, sound, theme, music, dance......

And lyrically, it says so much too........

Black or White

I took my baby
On a saturday bang
Boy is that girl with you
Yes were one and the same

Now I believe in miracles
And a miracle
Has happened tonight

But, if
Youre thinkin
About my baby
It dont matter if youre
Black or white

They print my message
In the saturday sun
I had to tell them
I aint second to none

And I told about equality
An its true
Either youre wrong
Or youre right

But, if
Youre thinkin
About my baby
It dont matter if youre
Black or white

I am tired of this devil
I am tired of this stuff
I am tired of this business
Sew when the
Going gets rough
I aint scared of
Your brother
I aint scared of no sheets
I aint scare of nobody
Girl when the
Goin gets mean

(l. t. b. rap performance)
Protection
For gangs, clubs
And nations
Causing grief in
Human relations
Its a turf war
On a global scale
Id rather hear both sides
Of the tale
See, its not about races
Just places
Faces
Where your blood
Comes from
Is where your space is
Ive seen the bright
Get duller
Im not going to spend
My life being a color

(michael)
Dont tell me you agree with me
When I saw you kicking dirt in my eye

But, if
Youre thinkin about my baby
It dont matter if youre black or white

I said if
Youre thinkin of
Being my baby
It dont matter if youre black or white

I said if
Youre thinkin of
Being my brother
It dont matter if youre
Black or white

Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now
Ooh, ooh
Yea, yea, yea now

Its black, its white
Its tough for you
To get by
Its black , its white, whoo

Its black, its white
Its tough for you
To get by
Its black , its white, whoo

Do you have a favorite MJ song and/or video??

.

I like Man in the Mirror.... a lot.

But, I think the Thriller Video must be my favorite.:thumbsup2
Nothing like it before or since.

Black or White is my favorite song, I think (there are so many I will surely think of another!) But my favorite videos are Thriller and Beat It.

I just loved watching him dance. That to me was something no one will ever be able to touch him on.

I agree with so much of what you said. Whatever we think of Michael Jackson, he was one of the true greats in the musical world. His talent was nothing short of genius.

Nice thread!:thumbsup2

I have many that stand out for me, but mostly because of the memories they are paired up with.

-My first crush/let down: "She's Out Of My Life"
-First dance my friends and I memorized and video I was glued to: "Thriller"
-First public awareness to the world outside of my little town: "We Are the World"
-First poster on my wall: "Thriller" album cover
-Song I played over and over when my childhood dog died: "Ben"

I also agree with you about the Lyrics to "Black or White"

You said it so well Dan! :thumbsup2

My fave Michael Jackson song was 'BEN'.

I'll always remember Michael as being that cute young boy performing on Sonny & Cher show.

His spirit will live on forever through his great music!

RIP Michael Jackson ^i^

VH-1 Classic has been playing Michael Jackson videos all day.....:thumbsup2

One of his songs from the "Dangerous" album, Gone Too Soon is particularly sad to listen to now. Some of the words:

Like a comet blazing cross the evening sky, gone too soon
Like a rainbow fading in the twinkling of a night, gone too soon
Shiny and sparkly and splendidly bright, here one day, gone one night...

It is so hard to choose just one after listening to so many yesterday and today. Even some that I had forgotten about.

I loved Moonwalker, especially the Smooth Criminal portion the dancing was OUTSTANDING.

Today on MTV they re aired that dance show when the contestants had to dance to MJ and it was weird hearing them talk about him. They were like you tried to be like him but you weren't. He is the King of Pop yadda yadda yadda.

It made me smile but also made me sad again.

Count me in for Thriller and Billie Jean. MJ's musical talent will definitely be missed.

Some of the greatest artists in all mediums were a little strange. I just attributed this to his great genius. I literally grew up with the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson. He was only 2 days older than my brother. No matter what is thought of him his musical genius and contribution to the musical world cannot be denied.
I loved the video of Don't Stop. You could see the pure joy in his face for his music. I also think Thriller was one of the best musical videos ever made. For his early music I liked Ben and She's Out of My Life. I hope he has finally found peace.

Yeah to all those listed! My favorite though,is from the Bad Album,"The way you make me feel" I love this song and the video(remember when MTV was music and videos?) There's just too many great songs to list.
