"So. Many. Selfies." A Mother-Daughter Trip! April 2014 UPDATED 1/4

CHAPTER 5 - "There's Your Picture!"

April 1, 2014

So... you might have noticed that I have a new obnoxious ticker going in my signature. That's right! Mom and I are going home in 52 days!! :cool1: We'll be in WDW from July 22-28 (I even convinced her to stay an extra day!) I'm so excited!! My goal is to have this TR done by the time we go, so hopefully you can expect lots of updates soon. I have one more week of school (exams... ew :() and then I'm out for the summer, so I'll have lots of time to work on this! Okay, now on to the update!
_________________________________________________________________

From Liberty Square, we ventured into the jungles of Adventureland to go on a journey with our favorite pirates. We had made Fastpass+ reservations for 7:50 and it was around 7:40, but the wait time was only about 10 minutes so we just decided to hop in the standby line. I love the Pirates queue so much -- the mysterious pipe music and the dim lighting just make it so real. And then when you get to the loading area, you're hit by the wonderful smell of Disney water! Ahh... so amazing! We boarded our little boat and set off on our high-seas adventure.

24glgcz.jpg

"We wants the redhead!"

33djfx2.jpg

I spy Johnny!

When we got to the burning village part, we noticed that all the pirates had stopped moving! The boats continued moving and the music was still playing, but everybody was still! As we passed under the pirate's hairy leg, though, everything started up again. Spoooky!

As we were exiting our boat, the CM overlooking everything said, "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, everyone get out," to the perfect tune of the "A Pirate's Life For Me." Everyone had a good laugh at that, and we hurried on out to the gift shop. Mom spied her "boyfriend's" portrait, so I had to get a picture of her with him:

2192clh.jpg

Every time we ride PotC, Mom asks him to join us in the boat and come home with us, but he ignores us every time! How rude! :lmao:

Since we didn't really have a plan, we decided to head over to Main Street to decide what to do next. While we were crossing the bridge to exit Adventureland, we looked over at Crystal Palace and saw Piglet and Pooh!

jk8vo3.jpg

We were standing on Main Street debating our options when a crowd control CM came over to ask if we needed anything. We told him that we weren't sure if we should stay and just watch the parade or do both the parade and fireworks, and he gave us the helpful tip that after the parade they funnel guests through the back of the Emporium to get out of the park as fast as possible before the fireworks start. Since we were going to be in MK another night later in the week, we decided to do that. We thanked the CM for his helpfulness and headed back through Adventureland to Frontierland.

2vs43l3.jpg

Main Street at night is so beautiful!

We scored some great seats in our usual seat across from Country Bear Jamboree in Frontierland, where we squeezed in next to a grandma that was saving spots for her family. She saw my camera and asked me if I was a photographer, and I think I said that I just really loved taking pictures. That was all that we talked, and pretty soon her family came back. It was the mom, the dad, and three little boys, and I picked up that it was their last night there. They all had Universal ball caps on too, and it sounded like their flight was really early in the morning. Here's a picture of our view from our spot:

14345dg.jpg

Since we were there for Spring Break, it was band season, so three high school bands were there that night. Last year, my high school's band got to go, but we missed seeing them by a night. I can't remember where the bands were from that night, but here's a picture of each:

s2qofq.jpg

2aia9t.jpg

This band was playing Disney music!

312uttx.jpg

The flag twirlers from this band wore these really unattractive jumpsuits that were light yellow on one side and maroon on the other.... :confused3

A few minutes after that spectacle was over, the dad sitting next to me leaned over and said, "There's your picture." I was a little confused because it was a little out of the blue, but it was pretty clear that he was talking to me, so I oh-so-eloquently answered back, "What?" He repeated what he had said, but this time he motioned across the street to a girl taking a selfie. We watched her for awhile as she did all sorts of faces, and the dad and his son commentated the whole thing. "Oohh, pouty face now!" We were all laughing, and I did end up taking a picture to show them:

2a7eekw.jpg

:rotfl: This was the only time that I got a picture of someone taking a selfie, but believe me, we saw many more!!

After that, a few merch carts rolled by, and then the Main Street Electrical Parade started! :woohoo: I took a lot of pictures, so here's just a few...

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.... the Magic Kingdom proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds...The Main Street Electrical Parade!"

The MSEP music is so catchy! Mom and I were bobbing along and dancing the whole time!

Sassy Tink!

I'm pretty sure he waved right to me! How magical!

A Very Merry Unbirthday...

Where's Prince Charming?!

I think it would be so incredibly fun to be "friends with" Anastasia or Drizella!

CHAPTER 6 - "Wanna Take Our Picture?"

April 1, 2014

More MSEP shots!

2qamlhs.jpg

2hrk0uu.jpg

"But Petaaah, how do we get to Neverland?" :lovestruc

2z3s7x3.jpg

Dopey gets to drive the mine carts!

2820yf8.jpg

Sleepy fell asleep!

29wqrlf.jpg

More bokeh! This face is actually quite terrifying. The family beside us couldn't figure out what it was from, and I was screaming in my head, "PINOCCHIO! IT'S FROM PINOCCHIO!"

2pru4he.jpg

Elliot makes the weirdest noises. And Pete, who usually rides on Elliot's head, was missing! :(

35bgvhh.jpg

Good ol' 'murica.

After the parade ended and the lights came back on, we made a mad dash to Main Street. We took the shortcut through Adventureland because we didn't want to be following the parade, and it actually wasn't as crowded as we had expected. By this point though, we were so slaphappy because we had been up since 4:00 in the morning, and everything just seemed hilarious. :lmao: Sleep deprivation does crazy things to you.... but there's NO SLEEPING IN DISNEY!

We fast-walked through to Casey's Corner, where CMs were waving us through hurriedly. They way they were motioning, it was like the world was ending! We cut through crowds in the Emporium, giggling the whole time, and finally made it out to Town Square.

I was running and skipping towards the bus stops (I don't think I've ever been that happy when exiting MK!), and when we stopped to see what station AKL picked up we noticed two CMs standing in front of the board. I think one commented that it was funny that I still had that much energy left at 10:00 at night, and then he saw my camera and said, "Wanna take our picture?" I said, "Sure!" and I don't think he was expecting me to say yes because he looked kind of surprised. His friend seemed embarrassed, but they posed and I snapped the shot.

33m0d5g.jpg

I wish it had turned out better!

We said thank you and I continued galloping to the bus stop, which was number 16. The bus arrived about 15 minutes later, and then after another 15 minutes we arrived at AKL.

Since we didn't have the DDP during this trip, we decided to get some pastries for breakfast before heading up to our room, so we walked around trying to find a quick-service restaurant. At first, all we could find were the fancier ones, but then Mom remembered that we had seen one outside while we were exploring the grounds. So we headed out and walked around until we finally found what we were looking for -- The Mara.

Inside, we found the bakery case, which looked like HEAVEN.

34zn38n.jpg

rbdqwl.jpg

I got an everything bagel, two slices of bread, an apple, and some apple juice, and Mom got some kind of muffin, an apple, and apple juice. Everything looked delicious, and the prices were really reasonable too! We paid and went to the condiment bar to find peanut butter, but there wasn't any out so we asked a CM to get some for us. She came back with a few packs, and we set off to go to our room.

Here's the view from our balcony at night:
25a5a1k.jpg

I watched some Stacey on Must-Do Disney () while Mom got ready for bed, and since I follow her on Twitter I decided to tweet her. I wrote "It's not a Disney vacation without @staceyjaswad!" and took a picture of the beginning of the show. The next morning, I woke up to find that she had retweeted it and followed me!! :cloud9: I feel so famous. Dreams do come true in WDW!

I took a quick shower, and by the time we were ready for bed it was 11:30. I had been awake for about 19 hours, so I was more than ready to hit the hay! I think the best sleep I ever get is when I'm at Disney. :faint: Goodnight!

YAY for a Disney trip! I have one coming up in July too, but it's earlier in the month.

HAHA I have a friend who loves taking selfies, so I always try to take pictures of him while he's taking a selfie. It's hilarious.

Bokeh!! So many awesome pics of the MSEP!

Stacey's the best!! That's so awesome that she retweeted you!

Thank you for your comments! Aw, too bad we won't be there at the same time! Haha, it's just so funny to watch people taking selfies. I know!! She has so many awesome one-liners. "Time to do the must-do!" I love her!

I'm joining!

Sounds like you guys had a great first day.

I'm totally guilty of selfies, mainly because I'm the person behind the camera and if I didn't take them, we'd have no idea I was there. :rotfl2: I am going to start a new series called "duck faces in Disney" because I don't understand the duck face, and figured it would be funny just making the duck face every I go in Disney. :lmao:

Can't wait to hear more.

Great update! I'm so envious of all your amazing pictures! A lot of mine are what I like to call "reference pictures" where I randomly hold up my point and shoot and take pictures of things so I don't have to take notes :rotfl: BUT they never turn out! I just feel like having pins and a huge camera around my neck is so tiring!

Thank you! I'm definitely selfie-guilty too! I mean, who really isn't, with cell phones nowadays. Haha, I would love to see that! It could be a new trend! Thanks for following along! :goodvibes

Thank you so much! Believe me, I have a lot of those reference pictures too. (don't tell anybody, but I still haven't finished writing in my trip journal for this trip, so I'm definitely relying on my pictures for the last day...:confused3) Same here! I tried to put pins on my camera strap this time, but I think the strap was too thick because they kept falling off. :(

CHAPTER 7- "Look at the Bunnies!"

April 2, 2014

At 7:30 I woke up, ready to start our first full day in WDW!

For breakfast I toasted my "everything" bagel and spread some peanut butter on it. I also had an apple with peanut butter, apple juice, and coffee with a packet of hot cocoa mixed in. YUM.

34t6dd1.jpg

2u4iqfn.jpg

(still half-asleep, I think...)

And the view from our balcony was gorgeous! What a way to start the day.

28tkehe.jpg

Mom came out to join me and was looking at the animals on the savanna when I heard her say, "Look at the bunnies!" I went over to have a look and started laughing when I realized that they were actually ducks. :rotfl2: Oh, mother. So for the rest of the trip, every time I saw a duck I said, "Look, it's a bunny!"

We were down at the bus station by 10:00. Today was a Hollywood Studios kind of day! A bus arrived pretty soon, but the trip took a little longer because the Blizzard Beach/DHS bus was combined, so we had to stop at the water park first to drop people off. There was a little girl sitting next to me on the bus, and the whole time she was singing, "LET IT GO! LET IT GOOO!" Everyone thought was funny, but her mom was not amused. She said she had heard it a million times already!

By 10:30, we were in the park! I love DHS so much. The theming is just perfect!

2d7da8o.jpg

23j3cpj.jpg

We were meandering down Hollywood Boulevard when we noticed a police officer standing on the sidewalk. I thought he was a real officer at first, so when Mom told me to go up to him, I was a little confused! But then I realized that he was a Citizen of Hollywood -- Officer William Club.

vnl6om.jpg

Don't let the picture fool you -- he was actually really grumpy! He made fun of me because I had my hands on my hips when I walked up to him, and then he made a big deal because Mom took two pictures. But we left him laughing!

We asked a lady walking by to take our picture, and she was more than happy to do it!

2ujhy02.jpg

I also took one of just Mom:

dztr0l.jpg

As we got up to the hat, we noticed a big crowd, so we went to see what was going on.

We came around to the side of the crowd and found that some of the Citizens of Hollywood were doing a show, so of course we had to stop and watch!

zklp4p.jpg

This little girl was about the most adorable thing I have ever seen. She was just dancing and dancing with Paige Turner!

2s7axpk.jpg

Beau Wrangler. :lovestruc

wp4oy.jpg

Dara Vamp has the funniest facial expressions!

ogcjz7.jpg

This kid was amazing! They called him up to compete in a Disney trivia contest against Alberto Dante. He was totally into the whole thing!

The contest was three questions, and by the third the two were tied. The last question was "In the movie Up, what holds the house up?" and Alberto answered balloons, but they said that was incorrect. The kid said helium and won! They gave him and his family "super-Fastpasses" for the day. I would take those!

4gjf47.jpg

Officer Percival Peabody's reaction to the boy winning. :lmao:

By that time, our Fastpasses for Toy Story Midway Mania! were accessible, so we headed over to Pixar Place for a "rootin’, tootin’, shootin’ match."

We were able to zip right through the Fastpass+ line, and when we got to the 3D glasses pickup they were asking for a party of two. I volunteered us, so we passed all the people in the line on the staircase too! It literally took us three minutes to get onto a tram. :woohoo:

I love the TSMM! queue so much! It really feels like you're toy-sized!

Our scores! Mine is on the left. I got the highest score in the vehicle!

Some random people. I was trying out candid photography more this trip!

Late to the party but joining anyways!

First and foremost- props on your username! That's catchy! :thumbsup2

I love to get my own luggage for DME too! I tend to fly down in the evenings when we're pushing the pick up window but even if I went in the morning I just like the piece of mind of pulling it along myself. It's really not that hard because there's always friendly CMs to help!

AoA is really gorgeous! I stayed there only a few months after all the sections fully opened. I'll bet everything looks even better now that the landscaping has grown in a bit.

That first picture of the chairs really captures how dark the AKL lobby is! It feels like going from night to day, haha!

What a view! Not only does the sky and treeline look to lush and beautiful but you're right- I can see the tip of the white mountain peak!

I'm not positive, but I believe I saw the ode to Mr. Toad is in the tombstones on the other side of the fence during the interactive queue. That was over a year ago though, and my memory is fuzzy. I'm sure a google search could confirm/deny that rumor.

That's a cool shot of CP looking in on the character dinner! :goodvibes

I like how you snapped pictures of CMs during your trip. It's a nice reminder of who makes the magic happen! ::yes::

Oh, the benefits to being a small party in Disney! I love being able to 'jump' the line. You can bet my hand always shoots up first when they ask! :wave2:

Consider me subbed and ready for more!

CHAPTER 8 - So. Many. Citizens. of. America.

April 2, 2014

After our Toy Story Midway Mania! escapade, we decided to check out the line for Great Movie Ride. We had reserved Fastpasses for 11:50 to 12:50, but since we were going to be passing GMR anyway it couldn’t hurt to find out!

dzdx4z.jpg

The wait time said 20 minutes, so we just went for it. It actually only ended up being around 10 minutes, but that was partly because our small party-ness turned out to be an advantage again – because it was just the two of us, we were rushed onto the tram just as the doors were closing.

Unfortunately, this also meant that we were in the very back, which I was disappointed by. We've always been in the front/middle, so this was a big change.

xgip1v.jpg

Lights, camera, action!

Our guide was a girl, which was also a first. She was pretty good.

25zjqc3.jpg

"I'm singin' in the rain, just singin' in the rain!" I love this movie!

16mcnt.jpg

Chim Chim Cher-ee!

21an1c1.jpg

"Whatever you say, Mugsy."

152niqa.jpg

"Well, that's a mighty tough territory you're headin' into, pilgrim. I'd think about turnin' back if I were you."

*cue Alien scene, during which I 'just happen' to very intently review pictures on my camera and plug my ears* :rolleyes1

10qkj6r.jpg

"Halt, unbeliever! Disturb the treasure of the gods, and you shall all pay with your lives."

Whew! Glad we managed to make it off that wild ride! We always seem to get the gangster scene -- have any of you ever had the cowboy scene instead? I would love to know what it's like!

After that, we went out to the courtyard to look at all the hand/foot impressions in the sidewalk.

fji1qs.jpg

One of my favorite stars, Audrey Hepburn! I was so excited to see her signature and handprints.

After that, we journeyed on over to Sunset Boulevard. There, we came across another gaggle of Citizens of Hollywood.

amftk.jpg

Beau was upset because the "Frenchman" could twirl a lasso better than him.

We didn't stay for long because the show was coming to a close, so we went back to Hollywood Boulevard to look for a new watch for Mom since her old one from an earlier Disney trip was getting frayed. On the street, Officer Percival Peabody was directing the traffic:

30m76na.jpg

We didn't have any luck finding a watch, but when we came out of the shop the Citizens were parading down the boulevard. We followed them all the way to the Crossroads center, where they turned and went "backstage."

Since we had used our Tier 1 Fastpass on TSMM!, we decided to go see how long the wait would be for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, (those tier systems make me so frustrated!) so we headed back down to Sunset Boulevard.

343lvg1.jpg

"You are now entering... the Twilight Zone." :scared1:

a0ditu.jpg

Sadly, the wait time was around 50 minutes, so we passed up on going to Aerosmith's concert for this trip. Mom even wore her Aerosmith t-shirt on this day, so we were disappointed.

We realized that we hadn't been to the Streets of America yet, so that's where we decided to go next! On the way, we passed the "Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza" (I looked that one up :p) and had to visit with Walt!

2cdy3gp.jpg

Continuing on our merry way, we passed Star Tours (I've never been on this one) and made it to the SoA.

1zge16t.jpg

I love the feeling of this part of the park, but I wish they would have done more with it. I think it would be cool if there were actual restaurants/shops in the buildings instead of just having the fronts. :confused3 Oh, well!

v4z891.jpg

It was neat to see this because we just went to San Francisco last summer!

While we were walking through the streets, we heard some lady say, "What even is this supposed to be?" :sad2:

From there, we continued on to the "back entrance" of Pixar Place, where we noticed a green army man standing all alone. We took advantage of the opportunity and I hopped up to get my picture taken with him.

2i71gkl.jpg

The funniest part was that when we walked a little farther, there was another green army man getting mobbed by people. I bet the one I visited with was feeling lucky!

We thought it would be a good time to go into One Man's Dream. It was a pretty quick trip because we have been so many times and we had been to the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco last summer, which is so amazing that OMD kind of paled in comparison. But I'm really glad that they have something in the parks where people can go and really learn about the man who started it all!

After spending about ten minutes in the museum, we came out and decided to take a little break on a bench across from the entrance. It was nice to have a rest and just people-watch for awhile! I think I also had a little snack of some peanut-butter cookies we had packed.

Our break came to an end when we realized that our Fastpasses for American Idol Experience were about to begin. More on that later!

Wow -- thank you so much for all of your wonderful comments! You really made my week. :goodvibes Thanks for joining!

Aww, you're welcome! :cool1:

I don't think I've ever seen the Cowboy scene either. Oh well! I don't know how much memorizing I could do, but this seems like it would be the coolest ride to work on!

Bummer for no Aerosmith :guilty: I love that ride!

The first time I ever went on GMR in fifth grade we got a cowgirl scene, so for years I thought it was the norm until a few years later when we went back and got the gangster every time we rode. Had no idea until a few years ago that the cowboy scene was so rare but something they still did.

I would also love to work on GMR! I think I would be too afraid that I would blank out during the ride! I found the entire script online here, so you can start memorizing now. ;)

I've read that you can request to get the cowboy scene, but it only operates on some days. I think it's odd that it's not used as much -- I would be interested to know the reason why!

Omigosh- I didn't think of that, but could you imagine?! I bet they blanked the CM could just make something up and most of the guests wouldn't know the difference anyways.

CHAPTER 9 - Livin' the AP Life

April 2, 2014

Our little rest did wonders for our spirits! Our Fastpass for American Idol Experience started at 12:55 and went until 1:10 and it was about 12:55, so we got up and crossed Hollywood Boulevard.

I have to say, the Fastpass for AIE was completely ridiculous. It actually took us longer to find the FP "entrance" and scan our bands than it would to go through the regular entrance. It was, essentially, a roped off way up the same set of stairs, and once we went through the turnstiles we were mixed right in with the regular line. Bottom line: don't waste a Fastpass on AIE!

30vkkex.jpg

We stood and watched a little preshow outside, and then the doors "magically" opened and we were admitted into the theater! A few minutes later the host came out.

e6prfn.jpg

Then the judges came out and were introduced, and then the three singers were brought out.

They explained all the rules for voting, and we were given a practice question. The little girl sitting beside me was so adorable! She was really shy!

The first singer was 16. She sang "Colors of the Wind," which sounded pretty good.

sc46tu.jpg

The first judge told her that she would make a great model, and then the last judge, the "mean one," told her that it was a good thing that her voice was surrounded by others in her school choir.

The next singer was a mom of three boys. They gave her an intro package, but none of the other contestants got one. She sang a Kelli Clarkson song.

2v1nkhc.jpg

The "mean judge" told her that it was a good thing that her family was 1/4 of the audience (because she had a lot of nieces/nephews with her too).

The last singer was a 20-something guy from SoCal. Everyone thought he was really cute, and I would say that I have to agree! He sang "Lose Somebody" by Kings of Leon and wasn't really that great, but he was just so adorable that everyone kind of overlooked it.

rvlhck.jpg

The woman judge said that she wished she could have a mini version of him to carry around in her pocket all day!

The voting process started then. I ended up voting for the second singer- the mom. The little girl beside me voted for her too. She ended up winning, and when they announced it she looked at me with her mouth open and said, "You were right!" and I said, "You were too!!" So cute. :cutie:

We were released and walked back up to Hollywood Boulevard past 50's Prime Time Cafe and all the other restaurants near it. At the intersection of the two streets, we saw some more Citizens putting on a show!

2hplgsx.jpg

This time, it was the Hollywood Public Works. They were just finishing up as we walked up, so we stayed until the end.

2efjptw.jpg

<3 Sparky!

We continued on to Sunset Boulevard, where we browsed the shops for Mom's watch. She found one that she liked, and when we went to pay for it we noticed that our cashier was also from Ohio. We told him the name of the big city that we live close to, and he asked us if we actually lived there or if we were a suburb, so we gave him the exact name of our town. He said that he was going to see if he could name the zip code for our city, and we were kind of thinking it was a joke at first. He proceeded to rattle off the first three digits of our zip code, but messed up on the fourth one and got the fifth right. At this point we were like :scared1:, but then he explained that he used to work for UPS and had to memorize a lot of the Ohio zip codes. We thought that was pretty neat!

Outside, we found a bench to sit on so Mom could put on her new watch. Across the street I noticed that- would you believe it?- there were more Citizens hanging around, so I went over to check them out.

16kcsq9.jpg

Beau and Stone were reading the classifieds in the newspaper and discussing whether children should be able to have jobs while Evie Starlight watched.

After a few minutes, Mom joined me. The two guys moved into telling jokes, but Evie said that she didn't understand him and went to sit with "her people."

The girl sitting next to her was very sassy, and didn't have a problem telling Beau and Stone that their jokes were not funny at all.

Did you see that rumor that the AIE is going to close soon? :sad1: (I also read GMR is closing as well) I REALLY hope not!!!

WOW! I can't believe how many times you guys ran into the citizens!!! Maybe on my next trip I'll actually get to see them!

Great update! Can't wait for more!!!
