So Many Rides Broken

We are at Disneyland for our first trip this week. Yesterday for early entry at CA, Toy Story Mania, CA Screaming and Goofy Sky School were broken. Eventually TSM and Goofy came back up mid morning but CA Screaming stayed closed all day. Goofy was on/off all day.

This morning for DL early entry, Matterhorn and Buzz Spin were down. We got stranded on POTC for 30 minutes inside the boat when it broke down. They had to turn on the lights and bail us out the back. Splash Mountain and Pooh went down, and the monorail was broken at dinner time when we wanted to ride it back.

Seemed like so many rides we tried were closed for some part of the day. Very frustrating! I expect this at at my local theme park that costs $90 for a season pass, but not at Disney that costs a fortune each day.

We are having a blast despite all the broken rides. Hoping to catch up on some of the broken rides in the next 2 days.

Geesh!! Between the refurbs and breakdowns, it is easy to understand your frustration. I hope things improve for the rest of your trip. You are right. DLR is not an inexpensive place to visit, and when you do, you want things to be working!

We are here at Dl also today. It became a joke that since we were in line the ride would break down. At least 5 rides we tried today broke down for awhile....dumbo, buzz, haunted mansion, pirates,a utopia...so frustrating and the grad night crowds were horrible. I was annoyed with all of them. I say limit them to just one park and not give them park hoppers. We are sad disneyland is broken but fantastic was really great.

There are very few things closed for refurb right now. In DCA, Grizzly River Run is the only thing that is down. In DL, Nemo is down, but it should not be a surprise to anyone as it is a long term refurb. Space Mountain is down and was planned. Lastly, Alice is down, which was also planned. That's it. There really isn't much at all under refurb right now to cause frustration.

It understand. It sucks :(

We were there last month during all those major closures due to refurbs. On the night of our anniversary my parents were watching the kids so we could have a nice dinner and go on some of the bigger rides. Both Splash & Space were closed on top of all the other closures. It was frustrating! We just told ourselves thats life and made the best of it by heading to other attractions.

To us, Disneyland is pure happiness. Things go wrong and there are bad days, but it's still out 'happy place' and we feel grateful to be able to go. Maybe I'm in a bubble, but I like it in here ;)

Sometimes I think it's just back luck and wrong place at the wrong time. We have been here since Sunday and while it has been busy, it has been quite manageable. Especially in the morning hours. We got stuck on pirates also, but only for about 15 minutes. Other than that and a late opening for Matterhorn, we have experienced NO other breakdowns. And as for the grads, we spent our day in DCA yesterday and did not really notice a difference in the crowds at all until leaving the park AFTER WOC. I have enjoyed our trip so far. Sunday was even far less busy than what I thought it would be.

I thought Space Mtn already had a major refurb...

Going down for a month or two is not major refurb. A major refurb would be 4-8 months.

Space Mtn is down - along with Alice - mostly because Disney has been dealing with OSHA regulations for worker safety and is implementing new safety measures. If not for that it is highly unlikely either would be down right now.

Gotcha. But it did have a major refurb in recent history, right?

The last one I am aware of was in 2003-2005.

After that I am not sure it has had a period of being down for 4+ months. Many times for 1-2 months though. But my memory is not perfect and I could be wrong on this. I do not remember it being refurbed in the last few years.
