Okay I finally got over the idea of getting a qualifying stay with a discounted rate but now another little clause is preventing me to get an upgrade.

I was so excited to finally get Gold satus. I booked my room for the Hard Rock pool view in December and was so eager to get upgraded to a deluxe room but now they tell me I can't get it because my stay falls during their so-called black out period for upgrades.

What else are they coming out with next? What does guaranteed upgrade mean to them -maybe I am reading it wrong.

You need to look at the fine print on the bottom of the Loew's page. The blue, gold, and platinum categories all sound great until you read that little tiny print at the bottom. And yes, there is also a link to click on for a listing of all the blackout dates for all the Loew's hotels. I was all excited because I've booked in Philadelphia for New Year's like last year (I was gold and got upgraded to 30th floor w/excellent view of fireworks) this time around, the only blackout date listed for Loew's Phila. is 12/31.....meaning no upgrade to a suite......even though I am now platinum. I don't know if they make it that confusing on purpose just so they can deny "benefits" or if there are just too many details for someone to keep track of. So far, I don't see any "extras" from being either gold or silver unless you go at a slow time of year when places aren't crowded.....but wouldn't a "non-Loew's" member stand a good chance of getting upgraded during a slower time too?
