so irritated with Walmart!!

I look at the return policy of any big item that I purchase right after buying it.

I don't mean to criticize CVJW, but your comment struck me as strange. Wouldn't you check the return policy before purchasing a big item? Just saying ...

items are completely unwrapped- batteries and camera still shrink wrapped within box. I did contact Walmart.com customer service and got a nice surprise! they will let me return it as long as I ship it back! I bought it ahead of time because it was a good deal. I didn't even try to return the opened camera(wouldn't even think about it) and of course I didn't open them and try them out- they were gifts! anyways -I received a happy ending. Thanks for your support and letting me vent

Glad to hear you had a favorable ending!!!! :thumbsup2

I used to work with a girl who would go to a department store, "buy" a bunch of clothes, wear them once or twice and then go "return" them. Disgusting!

I dont shop at Wal-Mart much if at all, but this happened to me as well. I purchased a LCD TV on Black Friday a few years back for Christmas gift. I was going to have it wall mounted after the holidays so did not open right away. We opened and it worked for 20 minutes. Wal Mart refused to take it back citing their 15 day Electronic policy. Right or wrong, I stopped shopping at WalMart and prefer to deal with those that treat me honorably. I dont buy things use them and take them back, so dont treat me like that.

I fought the manufacturer for over a year to get my money back.

Friends purchased several BF DVD players the same day and Christmas morning, none of them worked!

I would rather pay the membership fee at Costco for better service and terms on electronics.

I would pursue it with WM Mgmt.

Most placed don't have their return in place for that reason, technology returns are usually shortened because technology changes fairly quickly and retailers loose a lot of money if items are returned that are no longer carried.

In general as a consumer I am responsible for checking a retailers return policy. If I don't like their return policy then I won't shop there.

I know you don't need the 2nd camera now, as you have replaced it. But, are you sure the camera was the reason for the lousy photos or did the developer not process them correctly? Have you had the pictures reprinted or tried to get them printed elsewhere?

Believe it or not Walmart has one of the most liberal return policies. Some stores simply do NOT accept returns, especially without a receipt. My daughter works at Walmart, both as a cashier and at times in the customer service desk area. She has such horror stories, to include woman filling a cart with linens, blinds and other household items then marching them right to customer service for a return. The did not purchase them, but wanted the money. Over $200 in items. This happens all the time at Walmart and I wonder how they can keep the prices low with so much stealing, but they do and I for one enjoy it when my budget is tight.

That being said I sure would hate to take a $90 hit, try talking to the manager, or like one poster said try it without the receipt.
Good Luck!

I disagree especially with Cameras and such. Last year my brother tried to take back a camera that we did not need after all and the employee told him no as it was purchased on Black Friday for a Christmas gift. He did get it taken back by the manager especially since it was not opened and many people just don't have the time to run in right after Christmas for a return.

Target's return policy on cameras and televisions and such is 90 days. I love their policy and will buy electronics from them before ever buying them at Walmart.

I do try to avoid Walmart and will pay a little more if need be to avoid that place.

Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE Target, but there return policy on electronics stinks as well. They charge a 15% restocking fee for tv's, camera's, etc... that are unopened. If it's opened, they won't take it back at all unless there is a defect, in which they will exchange it for the same item.

Glad to hear it turned out well. I know this kind of situation happens quite often.

Having worked at Walmart, service desk no less... if somebody throws a big enough fit management will cave. Being only a couple days past the grace period, they will surely do what it takes to make the customer happy. Especially if they have a receipt AND sealed in the box...obviously they are not trying to scam the store. I would honestly be surprised if management wouldn't approve the return.

Of course there is the "no receipt" route... that would work, the money would be put on a gift card and you only get so many of those per year (If I remember correctly it is 3). They go by drivers license number.

Best policy is to be honest about it, and talk to a member of management.

Funny thing is, if a "lower member", like the girl working the service (is probably a cashier in rank) desk approves a return that violates policy, she will be in trouble. However, if somebody goes higher up, usually the next step is the CSM chances are they will approve it and it makes the lower level employee look stupid for being petty. If the CSM doesn't approve it, they can speak to a member of management, and usually the magager WILL approve it no matter what. That makes the underlings look bad, but they are just doing what it takes to stay out of trouble. The higher up you are, the more flexibility you have with the rules. That is probably true in any company.

Actually our Target only has a restock fee on portable electronics. I was able to return an unopened Wii without any problems at all. Got my full refund back on it. Their return policy clearly states portable electronics only may incur a restock fee.

This is why whenever I have a problem that is not being resolved to my satisfaction I always ask for a manager or supervisor. In one instance I had to work all the way up the chain to the executive offices but it got my problem resolved. This is usually the case so long as you are friendly with them and do not lose your temper. Usually your problem will get resolved fairly quickly without having to go all the way up the chain.

If I am having too many problems with those lower down the chain I bypass and go direct to corporate if at all possible. I have had it happen many times where they tell me there is no one but them to speak with and I tell them unless they are the ceo of the company than there has to be a manager that I can speak with. Usually after that they are more willing to help me and will either transfer me or give me info. on how to contact that person. If they do not I simply call back and speak with someone else. Depending on how important it is for you to get it resolved you sometimes have to be persistant and willing to call back until you get somewhere.

Everyone wants to be the 'exception' to the rules.

OP - I have sympathy for your situation and I am happy you have resolved your problem. You did not appear to step all over customer service to get what you wanted and you absorbed half the cost of your unwanted items.

However, the advice above grates on my nerves as it resonates to me as someone who has learned to 'use' the system to get their way no matter what their issue is. The rules are usually fairly written and the first level of responder is following them. Then comes along the 'rules are not for me' individual as stated above.

Edit: Not a Walmart fan...avoid it at all costs at home but often find myself at a Walmart while on vacation....go figure!

This is directly from the Target.com website under return policy:

"Restocking Fees: Some items are subject to a 15% restocking fee, including camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD players and portable electronics."

To me that reads pretty much any electronic device they want. I'm glad you got to return your Wii without a restocking fee though. I don't really see what the point of a restocking fee is when they most likely just return the unopened package back to the shelf.

Glad things are working out, just for information: My daughter tells me Walmart has changed some of its return policies, also some thing once opened can not be returned and some things simply can not be returned without a receipt now.

As always on should check to see what the return policy is that is effect at the time of purchase for any "major" items and even some lesser items.

Lets all just be smart consumers.

I have NEVER been charged any type of restocking fee and again never an issue with returning anything to them. Well, I take that back I had one issue when they could not find my receipt in the lookup system and my son misplaced the receipt. I paid with my Target Visa and was able to get a copy of the transaction and the team lead assisted in getting the problem resolved as all I did want to do was exchange the item.
