So if I held on for dear life on 7DMT, am I nuts to try E Everest?

Hi all,

Yep, i'm a self (and DH) proclaimed ride wimp. I held on for dear life on 7DMT and passed on Barnstormer (hey, it looked a little intimidating from where I was standing! :o)

I think the most intense rides I've been on were 7DMT and Soarin (which I can handle just fine)

I'd love to try and lose my ride wimp status on our upcoming trip, but if 7DMT scared the hell out of me, how intense is E Everest in comparison?

Thanks for any feedback, Marina:flower:

7DMT is pretty tame compared to EE.

With that said, EE is not that bad. It's a big ride for Disney parks -- but it is nowhere close to extreme. Have you tried watching a ride video from Youtube? It will give you a sense of the intensity.

The trick to EE for me was sitting in the front. It *seemed* tamer to me. (I'm.kinda a ride wimp), I like BTMR, but SM is too much for me.

Do you have any other moderate thrill rides that you enjoy to compare it too?

It's faster than 7dmt, most of the ride is in the dark inside the mountain, the drop is the finale and it's not that bad and it's rather fluid in motion without any fancy loops or twists during it. It has some quick turns but it's really smooth. if I recall correctly, love and fear are exactly the same in the brain so it's just a mental thing you need to get past. Ride it with your eyes closed the first time.. it's mostly a dark ride but 1 advantage of a dark ride is you can't really tell where you are or where you are going. closing your eyes would get the rest so you can't see what's coming and by the time you realize what's happening it'll be over.

To dovetail Accident's post -- EE is very smooth...so if jerky rides cause you problems, then EE won't be an issue. While it is faster and taller than 7DMT, it is just as smooth -- so you don't get jostled around a whole lot. If you have anxiety -- go to Yak n Yeti beforehand and get a shot of patron on the way to the ride. Should help calm you down!

My fear of dark rides has to do with not knowing how to brace myself. I occasionally have back trouble and for the most part am ok but need to brace so I don't get thrown around. Would this be a problem on this ride? I've always avoided it but if it really is smooth, maybe I could handle it?

That's more of a doctor question if you have back issues. do you have any medical guidelines we could help say if this ride compares to what is ok...

It is a high gforce push you into the seat on a steep curve moving backwards in the mountain dark ride.. I would tell friends and family that have back issues to avoid.. it pushes you into the seat and the backwards movement has you leaning slightly forward when its' happening.

I wouldn't try it if you can barely get yourself on 7DMT.
You sound like my mom lol.
She went on BTMRR before my time and skinned her knees.
She can handle Soarin but does flinch and hold on for dear life. Same goes for TT she almost broke my dad's thumb the first time she went on because she didn't like that there was no bar to hold onto and she didn't even realize they went outside because she had her eyes closed.
We got her to go on 7DMT a few weeks ago and omg she was hilarious!!!
Imagine an almost 70 year old on there holding on like she'd fly out if she didn't and screaming like crazy the whole time.
Meanwhile her 4 year old granddaughter is right in front of her chilling and smiling lol.
I just had to screen shot her face during the video looking like it was a mega coaster.

I am I ride wimp (never used to be in my youth, but am now that I'm older), however I love 7DMT and ride with my hands up 8-) I have ridden EE and I think it is intense. I rode it once in 2013, didn't ride again until last May and then skipped it again on our fall trip even though DH, my girls and my 6-yr-old rode it several times. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can only handle it every once in a while. If you haven't done BTMRR, I'd try it first. Baby steps. This would be my coaster progression in terms of "scary": Barnstormer, 7DMT, BTMRR, Splash/Space (tie), EE, RnR (which I still haven't ridden).

Just going from your description of being barely able to make it through 7DMT, you may want to pass on EE. It's a very smooth ride, yes. And no, it's not "extreme" in that it doesn't flip 5 times or set land speed records. But it's still pretty fast. It has a few drops that are much faster than anything 7DMT has. It also goes backwards at a relatively decent clip, while making a banked turn. 7DMT doesn't do anything like that. I love EE too, but I'd be concerned putting someone on it who could barely make 7DMT. DW is that way. She tried 7DMT. She survived, but said she didn't to ride it again...no way would I ask her to ride EE.

I agree with CAS239, try something like BTMRR or SM before you try EE.

My mom loved 7DMT and I thought she was ready for EE. (EE and ToT are my favorite rides, so I really wanted her to go on it!). Nope. After taking her on EE, she would not do *any* rides the rest of the trip. When she saw how high she was, she was not happy.

Nope. No way. If 7DMT was too much, EE will definitely be too much. It's the backwards part that really gets me. I'd suggest BTMRR as your next step. See how you do with that. (And throw Barnstormer in there, too!)

Can you do Splash? I know the drop scares a lot of people but that's another good one to ease into.

And I have to disagree with the closing your eyes part! I feel much better on rides when I can see what's coming and be prepared. Kind of like knowing which way to lean to counteract force or something like that. That's what I di8slike about Space Mountain. You get jostled around a lot and can't really prepare because you can't see which way you're heading!

It's hard to say. EE is very smooth so even if BTMR and SM are smaller coasters they are definitely not smooth and like you said, you don't like being tossed around because of your back do not go on BTMR or SM.
EE even though is taller it is smoother, you do have a period of darkness when it goes backwards.
If you sit in the front, the drop is not bad but the going backwards feels faster, if you sit in the back it's vice-versa

I am going to focus on the bolded statement because it is important. You want to be able to ride more of these rides. My advice - slowly ramp up. If you jump directly from 7DMT to EE, you may never ride a coaster again. It is far worse that 7DMT, though it is still very tame by coaster standards.

Ride Barnstormer. You will be afraid - that is okay - it is the reason that these rides are fun. If you can, try to ride BTMRR and Splash. Again, it is supposed to "scare" you. Just laugh at your fear when you are safely back on the ground and look forward to the next exciting ride. But don't jump straight from a very mild coaster to a much scarier coaster. You have to get used to the simulated danger gradually.

Coasters are meant to provide the illusion of danger while really posing no danger at all. Have fun with it.

The poster who mentioned their back and being tossed around wasn't the original poster. That was someone else asking questions as well.

If it's purely a "fear factor" for the OP, I really think the leap to EE is going to be too much!

I agree with @CAS239.

Try Big Thunder, then Space Mountain.

Based on what you said about holding on for dear life on 7 Dwarfs I'm in the "EE might not be the coaster for you" camp.
