The other day I asked here about otc help for posion ivy...I have it all over my neck, ears & face. Well, when I woke up today my face was puffy and my eyes were closing so I knew I needed help fast. Since it's saturday my dr's office isn't opened so I went to the walk in clinic....been there many times and even got a shot and a script for predisone (sp?) the last time I had p.i. The dr. who owns the clinic is an older very likeable guy. After he determined what I needed (a shot and a script) he then asked me if I wanted to lose weight! He caught me off guard but I wasn't offended...I need to lose at least 50 lbs. His clinic is involved in a lot of clinical trials and they are starting a new one for weight loss. You couldn't be morbidly obese, just obese. I had to get weighed and measured and I fit the criteria. I am supposed to get a call in two weeks to see if I want to do it. All participants get free medication and free use of a nutritional therapist, a pedometer...and also get paid to participate! I am just not sure as I have never been good about sticking to a diet and this is for 6 months. But I'll be turning 45 in September, I have a 5 and and a 9 year old and I really need to be in better shape. The dr. said that if it wasn't for me I could always stop - but there aren't many opportunities to get the help for free. Mmmmmm...I'll have to give this some thought..

The posion ivy is driving me nuts but I'm expecting the shot to take effect soon...maybe tonight i'll be able to sleep!

hmmm...sounds interesting. Maybe it could be the motivation you need. ( I know I could use some) Post again when you get more details.

Hmmmm, more info please? Where / who can I call to find out about this?

Oh....and p.i. is a pain, huh?

I'd want to know more about the medication and the possible side affects of any medication I were to be taking on the program before I agreed to it. But other than that, I say if it's something that sounds interesting or motivating to you, go for it!!! What have you got to lose, except some pounds. ;) Oh, and I'd stock up on all kinds of goodies and eat them like crazy for the next two weeks before the program began. LOL!

And good luck with the poison ivy. :crazy2: I hope the meds start kicking in quickly for you. :sunny:

Good luck with the poison ivy. My DH just got over a nasty bout of it. Had it everywhere!
His doctor told him that about the only way he'd get rid of it was to use steroids. Luckily that worked with him.

I'm glad you went to the Dr. for a shot. When I had a bad case of PI it keep popping up all over me. My eye was swollen shut and I was miserable for weeks. I hope yours goes away quickly!

I get the poison ivy like that too. Now I use that anti-poison ivy gel before I go out. I think it's called techno something or other. It's supposed to prevent you from getting it in the first place. I still get it, but not as bad.

good luck with the weight loss stuff!:sunny:

Thanks for the posts! :) I am on the predisone (sp?) now and I was told to avoid sunlight as much as possible and drink LOTS of water. No problem today. The itch is still there and it's annoying, but not as bad as yesterday.

As far as the weight loss program.....I have been thinking about it a lot and I don't think it's for me. I have never done well on any program and prefer to do it on my own. My youngest starts kindergarten in september (sniff, sniff) and I will have more time to exercise. I belong to Curves but haven't been going much this summer due to the kids being home. My neighbor/friend and I have started to walk more. I am eating healthier. The thought of using medication (meridia (sp?) in this case) bother me. I also thought the Dr. said something about going down to 700 calories...yikes!

Splshmtn99 - the program is in Milford and you would need to go there. Let me know if you want the clinics name.

Hi Jill,

Sorry to here you have poison ivy - I never get it I can rub it on me and nothing - sounds good huh? No not really I get poison sumac which when I get it has me covered in blister like pustules YUK! I guess we all have our poison;) Did your Dr. recommend swimming in the ocean to help the poison ivy - it helps dry it out. Also Ivory soap helps too.

As for weight lose come over to the WISH boards - no matter the goal, plan. Just a bunch of supportive people - really helps me.

Hi Jill,
Hope your poison ivy clears up fast. I had my first case ever this summer, also had to go on prednisone, it was awful. Now we're getting prices to have the land cleared way out in our back yard where the poison ivy is.

Good luck with the weight loss, I lost about 8 lbs earlier this summer but it's been creeping back with all the ice cream stops and cookouts we've been going to. I too need motivation just to get moving. I think I may break down and get a treadmill because I just can't get out to walk(my youngest no longer wants to go in a carriage so if she's with me I may as well be standing still!)

Take care!

Melissa! How are you??? :)

Just saw on your counter that you are going back! Glad you were able to talk Andy into it! When are you going??? We hope to get down in the middle of November. I can't tell anyone around here since that would be our third trip this year...non-Disney folks just don't understand. :)

when I got it I got a those myself! Not a lot but enough! and I used cortizone (sp?) cream on my rashes and it worked. It was twords the end of it but it still worked. I don't EVER want to get that again. I am bipolar but this made me reallllly go nuts!

Hi Jill,
We're going down the end of October. It was those JetBlue fares ($49!!!) that got us. Plus we have DVC, which technically we had no points left for this year, but borrowed enough for a quick 5-day trip over Halloween. We're bringing my MIL and SIL, neither of whom have been to WDW before so it should be a whirlwind weekend! We have friends going the week before Thanksgiving which is really our week of choice but we couldn't get the good fares for that week, plus that is our week for teacher conferences so we decided to go over Halloween instead.
Good to hear from you, try not to itch!!!
