(I put this on the Budget Board first because search didn't work, then I poked around more and here I am...) :)

I used those iron-on transfers, and the instructions said pull straight off if you wanted shiny, and leave on until cool if you wanted matte, or vice versa, I forget. I'm not sure if mine were right because I ironed them on, but it wasn't like the parchment paper overlay actually stuck to anything. Did I do something wrong? I peeled the back off the design, laid it on the shirt, laid the paper over it, ironed, then the paper was just laying on it. The paper that had the design on it is now fully sealed to the shirt.

I thought for a moment that I was supposed to peel the design off the shirt and there would be ink underneath, but they are stuck on there well and good, so I don't think I'm supposed to do that.

I'm just puzzled because the instructions said to peel off the paper using even, gentle pressure and there didn't seem to be anything to peel.

Halp!

Sounds to me like the directions you got were for light transfers. Sounds like you actually used dark transfers. Did it tell you to print mirror image?

No, it said I did not need to reverse the image...

I used white shirts, but everyone said the transfers for colored shirts worked better, even on white, so that's what I got. It does seem like the instructions might have been wrong, because they kept telling me to peel the transfer sheet (after they'd already told me to peel the backing from the transfer sheet).

So is what I've done okay, or when I go to wash it, is it going to fall off or something? :worried:

Well, it looks like the online directions have been corrected, but they're still talking about peeling off the parchment paper in the last step, and my parchment paper was never really stuck to the image, though I followed the instructions, and held it over, pressing down, 20 seconds per spot, so I'm not sure what they meant by that.

My main concern now is what will happen if I wash them. I have visions of the ink all washing off, somehow.

No that all sounds right for dark transfers. The parchment paper sometimes sticks but usually not.

And you do not reverse darks

I say go ahead and give it a wash

Phew! It said wait 72 hours, so I will. But I'm relieved...

I watched a YouTube video of someone doing it, too, and their paper stuck more than mine, but there was no other peeling to be done, and the parchment paper was clean, so I think I basically accomplished the same thing. Here's hoping, anyway!

Thanks for your input! Craft-sy I'm not. :lmao:

I have had the parchment paper stick several times. And I needed to wait til it was cool to pull that off. I only use Amy's transfers and even with them, the parchment sticks..Good luck

I also only use Amy's transfers. Others may be cheaper but they are cheaper for a reason. Her's are the best! :thumbsup2

I used them on all shirts, white to forest green and black etc.

No sticking at all !!
