The first I ever heard about this Turkey leg was on TV. Then again, this will be my first time to WDW since I was about 5 and can't remember a dang thing. So, is this massive leg really that good?

I ate one in 2000, was not impressed. I did not bother this year, but maybe I had a bad one?

We just got back this morning, had our first turkey leg ever this trip. We are meat lovers so we enjoyed it, bought it from Toluca legs at Disney Studios, they had BBQ sauce packets that we used to dip the meat, we enjoyed it a lot. I guess the taste is similar to smoked deli meats, some parts are really tender. I wanted to buy a few to take home so my DH could pack it as his lunch for work and show all his co-workers, would have been funny!! :flower:

We purchased one in April . . .it was O.K. but I really think you'd need to try it for yourself . . .

Personally I thought it was a bit over-rated.

My BIL got one on our last trip and said it was delicious...however it was just about the most disgusting looking thing I've ever seen and I couldn't manage to take a bite.

If you enjoy smoked Turkey, it is a lot of bang for your buck. However, the leg meat is attached to the bone with a lot of sinewy stuff that you have to eat around, but generally, the meat is good and tender. There are large areas where the sinew stuff doesn't get in your way.

Not bad, but I wouldn't try one for the first time at WDW if you haven't had one before.

it can look off-putting after a couple of bites, because you can basically see the inner parts of the thigh! That being said, if you can get over the visual, the taste is gorgeous, a lot like smoked ham. i can never really finish a whole one either. this would make a good lunch. Try it for yourself, it'll be worth it :flower:

Neither DH nor I really cared for this. I doubt we'll ever get it again.

I have to agree...they repulse me.

I'm also not a fan of eating something off of bone....or watching other people eat off bones. (the sight of my father eating ribs just grosses me out)...but, that's JMO.

My husband and I tried one for the first time last week. We had seen them on TV too. We were disappointed. Very grisley. Taste was OK but hard to eat. However, my 3 year old love the meat that we were able to pull off the bone for her. Maybe she was tired of mac & cheese, but she ate a great lunch of turkey that day!

I liked the turkey legs. Messy but worth it. I had one at MK and one at TL.
Helpful hint: Push hands in sand at TL after eating turkey leg. Now chase your kids around the beach. Loads of fun.

They are good but they don't taste like turkey to me. The last time my DH and I were at Disney Studios there was a group of 4 or 5 teenagers sitting next to us while we were all chowing down on turkey legs. One of the teenage guys said "This is weird. It looks like ham, smells like ham, and tastes like ham. Yet they call it turkey." My DH and I started cracking up because we thought exactly the same thing!!

Bring along a loaf of bread and a jar of mustard and feed your family for the week!

Okay--not trying to start a debate about bringing food into the parks or anything. I'll go back to my usual baords now! :bitelip:

My daughter and I always share one - they are huge! We love them but they are really messy! I'll have to try the sand thing next trip! :rotfl:

That is exactly what we thought!!!

We tried one and thought it was...too greasy/messy/salty. I know a lot of people just love them, but not us!

I agree that it's gross looking and had a hard time with the idea of buying meat from a cart. However, my kids loved them (they love smoked turkey in general) and it's a good value for someone who wants protein.

I think it is what it is: smoked turkey leg. b/c they sell a lot of them, they have high turnover, so after realizing that, i felt better about purchasing them and letting the kids eat them.

Wow! I didn't think I would have so many responses this fast. With all this turkey talk I am hungry now, even though a lot of you think they may look gross, LOL.

My dh just had to have one when he saw people walking around with them. I took a bite or 2. It tasted okay, nothing spectacular and I don't think i'd buy one just for myself, they're huge! But it was definately a nice little snack that all 4 of us could share.

We always thought the turkey leg looked sooo good, until I mentioned something at Weight Watchers about it. Since it was turkey it would be good for ya right??? Well.....the leader said Stay away from those turkey legs they have something like 75 points a leg!?!?!? :earseek: Well......we just smelled them and moved on. I wasn't really good, but I'd rather save my points for dessert!! lol
