I love SSR and wouldn't trade it for the world! I guess that is a good thing since so many people can't book their "own" resort. Yes SSR is BIG but there will always be room for me, and you've got to love those 12 extra vacation years:)

I'm a happy SSR owner, too! :Pinkbounc

We love SSR. We stayed there in 2005 on a fluke. My cousin is a CM and it just happened that the best discount was available for SSR. We booked a studio and were upgraded to a 1-BR and an addiction was born! :)

We are staying at BWV in September, just to try it out. We would like to try BCV(unlikely as we go at popular DVC times), VWL, and OKW at least once each, and figured we better try them now, as the membership grows it may be harder to get into those resorts at 7 mos. But we will never be disappointed to stay at "HOME."

I was going to book OKW for February and the family mutinied on me. The kids, my mom, DH...they wanted SSR!!! :teeth:

We just returned from a wonderful 2 Bdrm stay and I don't know how we are going to survive the studio's from now on.
I have SSr in Dec and will start making it into the others for our next few trips.

If it wasn't for being the week before X-mas I would even try to change this one.

We did all the Values Most of the Mods and Now this . We will still be going to POP for a few long Week-ends on non-points (don't want to get to deep into borrowing) maybe even cash discount or Ap rate but they will be short notice trips anyhow so it really doesn't matter.

Another SSR lover here too! :love:

While we have been spending most time at OKW to stretch points, we were spending alot of time at SSR pool hopping, Artist Palette, the SPA (OMG! :cloud9: ). It has really grown on us.

We will be staying at SSR for the first time in Sept & can't wait :hyper: :hyper:

We fell in love with SSR on our first trip and as of right now we are booking at the 11 month window each year, its our home and we have no plans to stay elsewhere, except our annual trip to HHI our second love. :cool1:

It is so great that so many SSR owners are happy with their choice. We bought sight unseen and have our first trip in december. I hate reading negative things about our "home resort". You guys have done my heart good.

We also love SSR. One of the draws that POR always had for us was the boat, pool, and proximity to DTD. SSR has all that and more. We love to resort-hop for dining and we always use DTD as our transportation hub. (I know, lots of people hate riding buses but I have a dh that gets turned around and lost finding his way from the mailbox to the house - so not touching a car is soooooo great). No matter which resort we stay in, we are always somehow drawn to DTD in the evening because it is such a fun place to walk around.

People complain about the size, but I don't get it:
Grand Floridian = 867 rooms
Poly - 853 rooms
WL = 728 rooms plus WLV = 136 units
Contemporary = could not find number????
Beach Club/Yacht Club Complex = BC=576 rooms, YC= 621 rooms, BCV 282 units
Boardwalk Complex = Inn = 372 rooms, BWV = 532 units
Caribbean Beach = 2,112 rooms
Port Orleans - French Quarter=1,008 rooms and Riverside=2,048 rooms (that's a BIG resort with a painful internal bus system!)
AKL = 1,293 rooms
Coronado Springs = 1,967 rooms
All Stars - could not find number except for POP= planned to have 5,760 rooms (yikes!) after stage II construction.
OKW = 531 units
SSR = 536 units (stage II construction).

I got the numbers from the DVC New Member Handbook, page 37.

(DVC resort numbers all came from the DVC member handbook, all other resort numbers came from The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, 2006 edition.)

The Phase II construction at SSR is already complete and open. Phase III will add another 6 buildings- adding another 50% to the total for the resort in 2007.

When everything currently under construction is opened next year the totals for SSR will be - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1BR - 360 Dedicated 2BR - 432 Lockoffs - 36 Grand Villas = 828 Units / 1260 Max. Available Rooms.

Enjoy!

We don't have points at SSR, but we LOVE it all the same!! Just returned from 4 great days there. And we are looking forward to returning. :thumbsup2

Thanks for providing the numbers, they tell the real story!!

Glad you love SSR, we love BWV as much.

Sorry! I did not have Phase II numbers in published materials. Still, even at 1260 max rooms, SSR is smaller than most of the other non-DVC resorts, is not THAT much bigger than other DVC's attached to other resorts, is about the same size as AKL, and is actually smaller than the BC/YC complex. I just don't understand people claiming it is way too big (especially those that claim SSR is way too big and then stay in an All Star or POP) :confused3 - but then again, I really liked Coronado Springs and POR, and I don't mind walking at WDW because it makes me feel less guilty for eating all the happiest celebration desserts! :rotfl:

The only WDW resort I did not like was POP (and, of course, my kids thought it was great). :crazy:

Truthfully, I love all the WDW resorts I've been to - except the POP (I can't deal with no coffee maker in the room and no towels at the pool!)
Each one has something special and unique to offer. I love the walking access to EPCOT at the BWV and BCV and I imagine it comes in very handy to have access to MGM on Star Wars weekends that does not involve a road! If I could ever get off during F&W, I'd want to own at those resorts. Maybe when I retire.....The lobby at VWL is amazing. OKW, CSR and CB are like stepping into another world. POR has a fun pool and I love the boat to DTD.

Have not stayed at the POLY yet - but one day, when the kids are gone, I look forward to it! I just love Disney in general and SSR included :goodvibes

Not to :stir: things up, but simply to clarify. The "too big" complaints relate to two specific issues:

1) The resort may house the same number of rooms at BWV/BWI, but the land it covers is much larger. If you are at one end of the resort, and want to go to HRS pool, or to the Turf club for a nice dinner, it can be a long walk in July...especially if it is raining.

2) The number of rooms is much larger than that of any DVC resort. The total number of rooms available will appx. equal the number of rooms available at BWV, BCV, and VWL combined (my numbers are slightly different from yours. My DVC guidebook (older version) says BCV has 202 rooms, VWL has 136, and BWV has 383. Some have actually speculated that DVC is "calculating" the number of rooms differently so that SSR does not seem so much larger than the other resorts.) So, those three resorts add up to 722 rooms (if my "late night" math is correct), and SSR will have appx. 828 rooms upon completion. The concern here is not actually the size, but the number of available rooms, based on percentage of each resort.

Again...this has been debated to death, and I am not trying to start anything. It is just a sincere attempt to help you understand where the "big" complaints were coming from.

Oh...and, I am thrilled you love SSR!!! It is really cool to love where you own!!

I love SSR! Counting down the minutes to call MS to make reservations for the next trip! :banana: :banana:

Okay, I can totally get that SSR is way bigger than DVC portions of other resorts - but that does not add up to complaints about the pool, dining, busses not being "enough" when you consider that the other DVCs (except OKW) are share facilities with good sized resorts and are going to run similar numbers in terms of guests. The layout is more like CSR and CBR than it is like a lodge or inn, but that is design more than "too many people".

I do see how the 7 month window will continue to get more and more competitive as DVC continues to grow, but Disney could help fix that by adjusting the point scale (I know there is set number of points they can't exceed per resort - but they could play with the values a bit to ease up supply and demand). Do individual resort owners have any "say so" over those policies? If BWV owners are really upset about lack of availability at 7 months due to all the new DVC members, I have a feeling making it so that the smaller unit cost more points would help decrease demand. OKW and BWV are high on my list because they take less points than other resorts.

I am not trying to :stir: either, but I do think your numbers are not accurate. It seems very hard to believe that BWV has more villas than OKW.
I am glad you love your home resort. It would be a shame to spend so much money for something you do not enjoy. We just recently stayed at SSR and thought it was just fine. Not our favorite DVC resort, but still a nice resort that we would stay at again.

Not more DVC villas, more rooms when you add the WDW resort inn rooms. Same thing with WLV - a small DVC property, but attached to a large resort that it shares facilities with. OKW is all by itself :) , it has more DVC rooms, but that's all it has - no sharing with hotel guests.
