Does anyone else have this problem?

We're going in June for DS HS graduation present. I've been saving for this trip for 5 years. We use FF miles to fly & I have Disney Reward dollars .....

The good news is DH & DS & DD are more than content to let me do all the planning... Well, it would be nice if DH wouldn't give me these really odd looks everytime I bring up something new or cool about WDW but I digress.... ;)

The bad new is, I haven't told anybody else we're going!!! Seriously, NOBODY around us gets it. My parents, families & besties are the worst... :sad2: Is anyone else bombarded with "why don't you go ......." or "wouldn't it be better for you to spend your $ ..."

So yes, we do go other places....but not $ vacations like this. DS picked WDW.... but its not fair to turn all this on him, so I'm not even going there. So yes, we could use some of the $ to repair stuff around the house...but you know what... I'll never get this time back with my family. I've known plenty of folks who have died of cancer or lost a child...I want this family time...

I'm sorry to rant.... it's just been a really long year for us....

Hey its your life your do as you deem fit and right for your family...nobody else has the right to say what you should spend your hard earned $ on...You go for it and take loads of photo's/video to show what a fantastic time you all had and show them all to your family and friends to prove it was the right decision...
Happy Planning..:)

I agree with PP. No need to explain the whys and wherefors to anyone! My sister constantly bombards me with "why not the Caribbean" and "why not a cruise". My BIL loves Disney though, so she may be making a trip of her own soon ...

We love going to the 'World, go as often as financially able ... even took our honeymoon there. Sure, sure, we could have gone to an island or whatever ... but I don't think we would have had as much fun!

So I'm totally in the same boat you are, OP. I think a lot of us here at the DIS are, so you need never feel alone! :flower3:

I feel you.
Nobody at my work even knows the difference between Disneyland and Disney World. Or what drives me nuts is when people think MK IS WDW. What's Animal Kingdom, is that at Universal?
Aw well:rolleyes1

Just read my post...i sound so frustrated!!!

Thanks for the love.....

I feel you on those that don't know the diff between DisneyLand & DisneyWorld...... and of course, MK is the WDW...isn't it? :rotfl:

:scared: just totally dread telling everyone... I live in a little bitty town & everyone knows everyone biz..... and everybody judges! So, I'm gonna delay mentioning it as long as possible.

So, while family/friends remain ignorant :fish:, and DH :happytv: watches his SPURS & the kids do all the stuff the kids do...I shall keep planning & dreaming away! (and spouting off to you guys...God Bless this Board :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Thanks...I feel better already....

Congrats :thumbsup2

You came to the right place that's what makes the DIS so great being able to share our common love of all things Disney :cloud9:

Lord yes!!! My family is going to fuss when they find out we are going. My husband is getting a bonus at work, and our bills our paid on time, we are not going to be putting any additional balances on any credit cards, so we are going! You only live once. I might save all my money and get hit by a bus tomorrow.
My family are experts are how, where, and when we should be spending and saving our money. :scared1:

But they are going to find out sooner or later, I am sure my 4 year old will tell them.....eek.
Glad someone else is going through this - well not glad, but you know what I mean, glad not to be alone!

I can't possibly describe how much I understand you. haha. Everyone I know seems to have a hobby but the only thing that truly makes me happy is WDW. Sometimes I feel pathetic...I can't even watch WDW or DL commercials on tv without tearing up because I don't know when I'll be able to go again. I'm pretty sure DH thinks I'm nuts. There's no place like WDW and, for me, its impossible to be unhappy while there.

We do get a bit of this, no one has mentioned the money aspect, but as my husband and I are in our mid 20's and don't have kids we have had a lot of people asking why we would want to go to WDW...I'vegiven up trying to explain, some people will never understand!

Every trip every year my MIL can be counted on to say "you're not going to Disney, AGAIN!

EXACTLY what I hear all the time!

I have to share this...
Last night at youth group we watched the movie Courageous...there was a scene early on when the 9 year old daughter asked her Daddy to dance with her in a public park. the dad was a loving dad but he was just too embarrassed to do it. (*spoiler - he does it later *)

I gotta say.... on our 2007 trip (DH's first)...we took our the kids on our Family Honeymoon (yeah DH is a GREAT guy)... dinner at grand floridian, in the foyer the orchestra was playing...my then DD10 jumped on her new step daddy's feet & away they waltzed. I WILL never forget that.

AND that my friends is why we go back to WDW all the time!!!

btw...I cried at that part of the movie too! so between you guys & the sign I got last night, this trip is afoot!!! :thumbsup2

:rolleyes1 still haven't told my parents though :rotfl:

I get it! My DH isn't too bad about it (he lets me go at least!) but my own dad just does not get it. He says "haven't you been there enough?" This will be our third trip to WDW (yeah, it's the 3rd time in one year but come on!) I love it and it's not like I'm going crazy spending money on the trips... we stay value, use free miles from credit cards and get great deals to go... all of our trips have been super cheap and I have a feeling, this is only the beginning!!!

I feel your pain. I don't even want to tell friends/co-workers that we have another Disney trip planned. I am so sick of people asking why we keep going back so often.

We travel to other places, but there is something special about WDW for our family.

you are definitely not alone! And you will have wonderful memories!

we took our granddaughters in Jan for their 1st trip. They loved the characters and want to go back for MNSSHP. Our family, some friends and co-workers think we are nuts. But we have airfare credit to use up, got free dining, etc. So guess what? we are going back for 4 days :cool1:

I don't talk it up before or after to anyone that doesn't get it but I also don't let them take away our happiness at being able to go!

So sweet!! We have a similar experience. When we were waiting to eat at Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare, "Friend Like Me" started playing in the background and Aladdin is DH's favorite Disney movie so he got up and started kind of bopping around to entertain DH then 2, and it just evolved into them dancing around super crazy and us all singing and a couple other dads joined in with their kids. Whenever we hear that song now we always think of that moment.

SOOO many great memories for EVERY family to create at WDW!!! See, this is why everyone should go whenever they can!
