This is our first trip to WDW and DH and I are so excited. We haven't told the kids yet, as our trip isn't until Feb and we want it to be somewhat of a surprise. We've been waiting to go until the kids were big enough to enjoy it and so we won't have to carry/push them all over the place. At the time of the trip DS will be 5 and DD will be 7. We're staying at AKL, for 7 days. I can't wait for Feb!!!!

You are likely to find that a stroller will still be needed for your kids. WDW is huge, with lots of walking and standing around. It's also helpful to haul all your stuff -- that you need with two youngsters. More later -- have to get back to Star Trek auction on history.com

Welcome to online disney messaging. You will be able to find lots of hints and tips on this board, (and others, intercot.com, allearsnet.com, etc.) that will help you plan your trip with your children. WDW is huge and can be overwhelming -- it's good that you're going at a rather uncrowded time of the year. They rent strollers at all the parks, singles and doubles, so you don't need to take your own -- you could just get one later in the day when the kids start to tire. Most people recommend going back to the hotel for an early afternoon break -- but that doesn't always work out, depending on open hours, seeing afternoon parades, what time you start in the morning (the earlier the better, generally). You can take some drinks and snacks in with you.
Be sure to use PhotoPass a lot and plan to get the CD at the end of your trip (you can search on that term to find out about it).
Have a magical, fun trip!

You will love it, have a great vacation.

The average distance walked is pretty overwhelming. Since you have some time before your trip, you may want to experiment with some walking trips to the mall, etc. to see how that goes and it will give you more insight into their capabilities once they get to the world. However, once you are at WDW the adrenaline kicks in and the mere human body seems to be able to take a little more than it is used to :thumbsup2 All of your senses are are on WDW overload :cool1: They may cover 8-10 miles and not even know it.

Thanks for the great welcome everyone! I can't even tell you how excited we are to take our kids to Disney. Things have been tight and this past year wasn't the greatest, so it's like a celebration for our family that things are turning around. :cool1:

Have fun planning your trip. And feel free to ask questions to prepare you and your family. The DIS family is very helpful and full of knowledge. :)

Welcome to the Disboards and enjoy your trip to WDW. Feb is a great time to go and since DH and I honeymooned during that time, it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Since you are going at a slower time of the year, also plan on having some afternoon rests. Sometimes even us adults find we need a nap from all the walking.

Have a fantasmic trip! :smickey:

:welcome: Our first trip is in June next year. We are also staying at the AKL. The dis boards has so much info and excellent tips. I am always looking through all the great info on here :surfweb: Have a great trip!!!! :goodvibes

I'm sure you will have a wonderful trip. What a magical age to take your kids. My four year old walked the entire time, he hadn't used a stroller in 2-3 years, and managed to walk 90% of the time.

Have fun, you'll learn a lot on these boards.

We just got back from a trip with our 7 year old and just turned 3 year old. Our 3 year old walked the entire time. The only time she started to get a little tired was at the end of the night when we went to MNSSHP. But I was dragging by then too! :teeth:

Our 1st trip was this past July. What a wonderful experience! We're all hooked. And-we're going back for 10 days, 9 nights next June. Have a great time! :cool1:

Oh my gosh, you are going to have the best time. Kudos for waiting until your
kids are older. They will really be able to enjoy everything and remember it.
We waited until our kids were 8, 10 and 12. It was tough, but we did it!
They still talk about that first trip and how wonderful it was and how COLD it
was(Dec.), and how we had the monorail all to ourselves. They're 21,23, and
25 now and we're all going back this Dec. Whoop! This will be the first of
many, many glorious Disney memories for your and your family. Congrats! :thumbsup2
