So else was in the psycho I-95 traffic on Saturday 4/16?

Worst drive to Florida that we have ever had -- and that covers at least 20 trips between FL and the mid-Atlantic or WNY.

I never saw such bad driving, stupid moves, heavy heavy traffic -- it was chaos! And this was before the tornado went through NC -- we were already past that by then. But we were stopped on the road for an hour prior to that due to some accident or problem near Rocky Mount I think.

We got on the road in MD at 4:30 AM and traffic was heavy right from the get-go and never let up until we were into Georgia somewhere. We got to Disney at 8:30 at night!!

Luckily, driving home on Sat/Sun this past weekend was a lot better.

So I just wanted to throw that out there for commiseration!

::yes:: We left MD at 0400 & got stuck on the beltway for 25 minutes. Couldn't go thorough DC due to several early morning accidents.

Traffic was horrible. We, too, were stopped on 95 & we took the dog for a walk along the highway to pass the time. That was our first & probably last trip driving. The return traffic on 4/23 was horrible as well.

We like having the dog with us but if it's going to result in 16 hour drives, forget it!

Glad we all made it home safely.

A lot of people on our cruise the next day were in that mess. They were not happy campers.

jaminmd - we needed some lime green Mickey Heads on our cars and we could have chatted during the stop on 95! Sorry to hear you had it bad on the way home as well - it wasn't so bad for us. We left Saturday around dinner time and drove up to Santee, SC, then started up again Sunday morning around 9:30. We made it home by 6 and while it wasn't great, it wasn't too awful - we skipped the I-95 section heading into DC and it looked to be really backed up there in the late afternoon. We took 301 up from down in Virginia.

We drove from CT to FL last July down I-95. We got past DC at 6:30 am

Traffic was heavy-heavy all the way from Richmond to the NC/SC border. Every car was two car lengths away from the car in front of it...no gaps...no where to pass...for hundreds of miles. I've never seen traffic that heavy persist for that length of time. All it took was someone to stop on the shoulder to change a flat and the whole highway would back up for miles from those slowing down to take a look.

We didn't experience very many jerks on the road, but even in a jerk-free ride, the level of traffic was difficult to tolerate.

I can't take that level of traffic for that length of time. So we are taking I-81 to I-77 to I-26 and pickup I-95 in SC this July to skip I-95 in VA/NC. It's another hour of driving, according to my GPS, but we'll save time by avoiding the backups on I-95.

"Psycho I-95 traffic"
That's about right.
