My DH and I were invited by my Dad and his wife, Penny, to join them on Nov. 8th Western for an adult only cruise. We were not planning on going this year but my Dad was diagnosed and had surgery for liver cancer one week after the cruise we took them on last year. We are the only kids (out of 6) they invited and we've never, in 11 1/2 years, been away from our kids overnight. We thought there was no way we couldn't go as we don't know how much time my Dad really has. All was planned. My DSIL is flying up from Florida next Thursday to stay with our four kids.
Penny's son went to Iraq in March for supposedly 3 months that turned into a year assignment. All military now have been granted a 15 day leave. His was scheduled for Dec. 1st -- great! He just called this morning and they changed his leave to Nov. 9th!!!!! My Dad and Penny have now cancelled (OF COURSE!!!) and my DH and I are going alone! I can't believe it (because we would never had gone alone to start with). We will see my step brother when we get back but there is NO WAY my Dad and his wife are going to be gone while he's stateside. I of course have no problem with that and completely understand.
I want to say Disney is great! I told her to explain to DVC what happened as I was SURE they would work with her. They of course were fabulous! They didn't lose ANY points and re booked for next year without having to pay the fee again. Normally they would have lost 50% of their points and had to use the rest a certain way. Disney waived all of that due to the circumstances (and the point cost for next years cruise was lower!).
I'm disappointed they won't be with us but just wanted to say thanks to Disney for treating the situation the way they did.
