The weather can be VERY temperamental in January.

We went last January at the end of the month and had great weather. I work capris every day as did children and DH wore shorts. In the mornings and evenings a sweater was necessary, but by 11am, the sweaters were off. Some days even got up to 79 degrees, with one day getting up to 80.
I thought it was perfect weather. Standing in the warm sun with a beautiful balmy breeze.

My DH stated that if the weather was like this year round, he would move us all to Florida. :cloud9:

But with all this being said, I believe the beginning of January last year was VERY cold.

It can be hit and miss in Jan, we were there this past Jan /12 and the temp dropped to near 0 degrees one night. So you need to pack a warm jacket. One advantage are the crowds are less, except for NYE and marathon weekend. We still had a great time.

We were in Orlando from December 31, 2011 - January 7th, 2012. It was our second January visit.....we were also there the second week of January in 2009.

This year, it was beautiful when we arrived. New Years Day was fantastic, with sunshine and highs in the upper 70's (we were at Discovery Cove and couldn't have wished for a nicer day.....warm, sunny, and clear). Shorts and t's were perfect.

By the 3rd and 4th of January, we were decked out in winter coats, hoodies, jeans and gloves and could literally see our breath in the early morning hours at Universal Studios (I literally had to go into the women's washroom at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter while the boys were riding Forbidden Journey because I had almost lost feeling in my fingers ). The news was all abuzz about the "Florida Freeze" and the poor locals were just about dying :rotfl2: .

By the 5th, we were back to being comfy in jean's and t's with a sweater early on, and by the 6th, it was hot again.....shorts and t's and glorious.

Be ready for just about any weather. The great thing in it all......out of two week long January visits, we have only experience rain once (for an afternoon in 2009). The rest of the time its been sunny, blue skies and absolutely fantastic (even when it was cold). All the pools are heated, so us hearty Canucks can swim regardless of the air temps.

Our last trip was a January trip. I came prepared for any kind of weather. I brought long sleeve undershirts to layer with a t-shirt, then a hoodie, then our softshell jackets. On top of that we had toques and gloves and scarves. Warning: we're more sensitive to the cold than most Canadians and typically wear one layer more than everyone else.

2/3 days we wore it ALL. I specifically remember our first day shivering in a chill wind along Epcot's World Showcase. Some days, toque and gloves were perfect for the morning, then we were down to a t-shirt for the afternoon. Layers we could add and take away were perfect. I focused on thin, easily packable pieces. We checked the weather each morning and dressed/packed accordingly.

The nice thing is we toured all day with no breaks with no problems. Our next trip is August and my TA is advising me to plan breaks. I don't expect to do quite as much quite as quickly.

Have been the last 2 years and I can say this year was better than last year cause we were able to swim one day, LOL!! We wore sweaters and evenings were cooler and light mitts. But you can't beat the crowds - way less than summer.

I too have been in Jan several times and love it!!! The coldest time was a few years back when it snowed for the first time 30 somehting years and it was COLD I had a hat gloves sweaters coat etc. I felt bad for the character who had M/G outside. Snow White had a long sleeve dress on and it was thicker but the poor soul was freezing.

We have been 15 times plus in January and have had freezing weather and hot weather. This past year we went Dec 16 to Jan 7th and had highs of 87 and lows in the morning of 31. The cold never last very long. Since we drive we have our winter gear on when we leave and our jackets are four in ones so we use whichever layer or layers. The cooler weather is great for touring and the rates are lower at most hotels.

Where are you going - WDW or DL?

We've taken two trips during January during the last few years, both about 15-16 days in length. For us, it's one of our favourite times to go to Florida - fewer people at the parks making for a more relaxing trip. We've had the odd day here and there that was chilly, but dressed in layers and by mid-afternoon wearing shorts or capris and t-shirts. Being from southern Ontario we always remind ourselves that even if it's a bit chilly in Florida, it always beats the weather that we're missing at home! :)

I would say 50/50. One year we swam every nights untill 22h. The year after we were wearing coats.
One thing for sure, not on the 1st but the days after are less crowed, we got see some Christmas decorations, and the Osborn Familly lights were still on until the 3th or 4th I think. Take it the way you want it will always be warmer than here in Canada... ;) :)

We went this past Jan and the weather was mild. The mornings and nights were a little cool. We wore jeans and hoodies. By 11am we had to take our hoodies off because it was too hot. The kids swam every day. It was a little cool for me to get in the pool. The last day we had an early flight and it was cool enough in the early morning I put my winter coat on. I saw some people wearing boots and hats during our week there but for us it seemed pretty comfortable. The kids usually wore shorts with their hoodies and ditched the hoodies as the day warmed up.

ETA-I think we got there on the 9th and it was the last day for Osborne lights. We were there 8 days

True no matter what is be warmer then Canada :D

gusse I might need two suit cases :D CAA has a cute tinkerbell one :D

We usually go in late January and haven't had any issues with the weather. I know it can be hit or miss, and the mornings can be cool, but the crowds are low so it makes up for the potential of not great weather.

We were there the first week of January 2012 and had nice weather. We would start the day in sweaters but later in the morning the kids were in shorts. The lines were nice and short we got to do a lot of attractions. We had such a great time we are planning a 2013 trip in January. :)
If you go at the beginning of January all the Christmas decorations were still up so everything was beautiful.

We were there for the exact same days! I do remember that one day was colder than it was at home in Alberta!:)

We were there January 2011. We enjoyed the daytime weather but be prepared for the nights to cool down very quickly and to be cold. A few nights during the last parade we were COLD!!

I would definetly visit again in January!

the first full week the weekend is marathon weekend, and can be quite busy and busing is sketchy
port orleans is the home resort to the marathon, so plan accordingly
