So add us to the list of being laid off

:grouphug: I keep hearing about the economy rebounding but see no sign of it myself. Our union (at a large Medical school) hasn't had a raise in 5 years, and 3 people (out of 14 of us in our group) were let go on Monday. While I am happy to still have a job, no raise in 5 years is killing me since gas, groceries, taxes, utilities, have all increased, and we've been required to pay a significant more for our benefits as well, so we've actually had a paycut with no raise over 5 years. I have been here for 13 years, and have begun to look around for new jobs. One interview I went on, they told me they received 120 applications in the first 4 days and stopped looking at any after that. So it still doesn't look any better to me.

Anyway, Best wishes for a quick job find for your DH.

Honestly I really didn't think it would ever happen, but DH was laid off yesterday. It really came as a shock. His company will give him until the end of the month to look for a job internally. If he doesn't find anything, then he'll get a severance's package for 5 months. I'm grateful they gave him some options, but it's still kind of a crappy situation. Luckily we prepared ourselves if this would ever happen and have enough savings for a year, but I really don't want to dip into it. Sorry for the vent.

If anyone hears of a job for an Operations Manager or a Six Sigma Black Belt, then let me know. thanks :goodvibes

If your willing to move near the NY state/MA border then my company is hiring many people with those types of qualifications as systems engineers. (He would also have to be a US citizen and not have done anything that would cause him to be unable to get a security clearance.) If you want PM me and I'll give you some info. We have a branch in VA but I don't think they are hiring as much there.

I also was just laid off...last Wednesday. We knew they were cutting back and doing some lay offs but our department was already short two people and they let two more of us go.
Here's the worst part- it was done by random draw....yup they put the 16 names in a hat and drew two. Nothing to do with attendance, performance, length on time etc......I was floored when I found out how they did it.
There are 20 departments in the company and they all lost 2 people.Plus some team leaders and some asst. VP's. June 1 was a very sad day.

I will enjoy my time at home with my daughter that is graduating Jun 24th and heading to college in the fall.

Yes I'm looking for a job and working on updating my resume so I'm ready to jump when I see something.

I wish everyone that is in my boat good luck and something will come along soon.

I thought that all of this layoff stuff was supposed to be about over with. It keeps on happening.

FWIW, companies always have to look at their bottom lines and figure out what's best. DH has had two layoffs by the same company, and each time it has had nothing to do with the overall economy, but what that company needed at that particular time. He's back with them, coming up on 2 years in this position, because they really do make good business decisions, even if they've had those layoffs.

They let go an entire area that the new VP did not feel was necessary, so a hundred of DH's coworkers got laid off, too. :sad1:

Ooh those pesky VPs! It was one of those types that caused hubby's layoff 2 years ago. They were all set to keep the department there for another year, and a VP type said "oh wait, let's see those numbers just one more time", and boom, the department moved from Seattle to North Dakota (yay for those employees in Grand Forks!).

Don't let hubby burn bridges...some other VP might say one day "wow, where's that department that I relied on? what? laid off? closed? must hire them all back!" :goodvibes

I'm floored, too. How brutal.

That is awful! I can't believe they treated it so lightly.

We're open to anything. I'll PM you, thanks!

It's funny you say that, because DH said he heard rumors today that they were going to create a new Six Sigma team in a different department. Makes no sense. :confused3

I'm not sure where in Virginia you live, but I just heard earlier this week that Capital One is hiring Six Sigma Black Belts like crazy. I work in Richmond and a co-worker is leaving our company to go work at Capital One as a Senior Manager - Six Sigma.

Thanks, I'll have DH look into it. We live in Northern VA, but there's an office here. I know the bigger office is in Richmond. My brother-in-law actually works there at Capitol One. Maybe it's time to swallow my pride and contact my sister. We've been on the outs for a few months.

My company shut down last week. I worked for them for 16 years and there was no severance. Sent a bunch of resumes out immediately and was called by one company to come in and take an excel test. I know the basics, but am not sure if they will be looking for more advanced knowledge of the program. Its so frustrating to go through this process! I hope we're all ok...

I'm sorry.. There are so many posts like this here on the BB every day.. It's really scary..:(

I hope he's able to find something - soon!

I was at the unemployment office today (got laid off 3 weeks ago:sad1:) They say YES unemployment is down but only because most people have exhausted their unemployment benefits. They are still unemployed but no longer able to collect. So it seems to me the government and officials are giving a false sense of the economy recovering. Yes unemployment is down but the economy isn't any better.

I feel awful for the all the people that are still losing their jobs. I hope you find something quickly. But I fear the economy is not getting better, and the unemployment rate will continue to go up.

For all those new jobs being created, we're a small business and we've created 2 new jobs in the count. But one was a part time job for a specialized job and he's only worked an average of 4 hours per month for the last few months. The other was a brother of an employee who could not longer work due to his full time job, so we lost one and gained one. But it was counted as a gain since the one employee didn't lose a job.

The way they count jobs created is a joke since they don't count whether they are full time, part time or even temporary.
