Honestly I really didn't think it would ever happen, but DH was laid off yesterday. It really came as a shock. His company will give him until the end of the month to look for a job internally. If he doesn't find anything, then he'll get a severance's package for 5 months. I'm grateful they gave him some options, but it's still kind of a crappy situation. Luckily we prepared ourselves if this would ever happen and have enough savings for a year, but I really don't want to dip into it. Sorry for the vent.

If anyone hears of a job for an Operations Manager or a Six Sigma Black Belt, then let me know. thanks :goodvibes

Ugh, sorry. Here's hoping that he finds something quickly.

I thought that all of this layoff stuff was supposed to be about over with. It keeps on happening.

Sorry to hear that - I know it stinks!

If you're anywhere near Falls Church, take a look at CSC's website ( http://www.csc.com/ ) Unless, of course, that's the company that he was laid off from as I know we've had some recent restructuring... :rolleyes1

Best of luck to your DH in his job search!

Indeed.com is a good place to look for jobs.

And just think if he finds something right away he will have two incomes till Nov with his severance package!

So sorry to hear that! I remember the shock I felt when Dh walked through the door that morning to tell me he'd been let go after 10+ years with the same company. He got only a 2 month severance, but found a job quickly.

Expect that your Dh may go thorugh a period where he won't do much in the way of getting a job. It took my Dh 2 weeks mourning what had just happened to him. Then he spent 8+ hours a day looking for jobs, connecting with old coworkers on Linkedin and working on his resume. He would custom make each resume to better match the job he was applying for.

This helped him get a job super quick!

Good luck!

Thanks for the support!

MyDizneyBoyz-thanks for the link. No, that's not where he was employed. LOL!
We do live in Northern VA though, so I'll have him check it out.

So sorry to hear. I sympathize. I will never forget the day DH came home and said he had been laid off...after 14 years with the same company and only FOUR MONTHS after we moved out of state for them, away from all our family. As PP said, there is definitely a period of mourning. DH and I were at each other's throats for a bit too--there is just so much frustration and nowhere else to vent it. Hang in there, and try to remember there is always something better out there. It may not seem like it now (or for a while) but it will get better.

I'm so sorry! It's great you are as prepared as you are, but still, a rough situation and keeping good vibes your way.

It is a shock. Thank goodness for the severance though. DHs hours were reduced to part time (end of 09), he collected partial unemployment and worked pt. It was a struggle. He has been at his new job for just a year now. In a specialized field, there are only so many companies to work for in any given area, so he was lucky. Hopefully your dh will be too.

I'm so sorry to hear about the layoff. Thankfully his company is helping him out... It does make a difference. Good luck finding something else.

hugs to you? We actually have black belt managers with my company so I'll take a look but we're in Wilmington De

With those kinds of qualifications, he should be able to quickly find a job. Does he know any headhunters? If so, he should get his network moving on helping him find a new job! I'm sorry this happened to him, this economy is still so tough.

I was laid off in February and started my new job in April. I highly recommend indeed.com. It pulls from other sources, saves your last 10 searches, and shows you how many new posts there have been since you last visited. It takes the pain of visiting every search engine out there away as it pulls from the big ones and companies directly. Simply hired is what linkedin uses, so if you are active there no need to visit it by itself. universe.jobs is the new up and coming thing as employeers don't have to pay to list.

I had six sigma green belt and found lots of oppurtunities for any six sigma training, black belt would have had even more options. My entire team was laid off, and of the 10 of us we all found and started jobs within 3 months. As bad as you hear it is, I think that wasn't bad at all.

The one thing I noticed is companies take forever to get back to you. First, apply the second you see the opening. Several times I found a great job, thought well let me craft my resume slightly differently for this one, and got back to it a day later. Twice the job was gone. Once it disappeared while I was filling out the online form! Multiple companies took a month or more to process before I got calls back. The trend also seems to be multiple rounds of phone interviews, 3 or 4 rounds before you get to a face to face interview. They have enough applicants to afford this. I'm still getting responses to applications I posted in February, so if you don't hear back right away don't worry.

My DH was without a job for 6 months last year. It is rough. Sounds like your husband is very qualified though, hopefully it won't take you guys as long.

Thank you for everyone's suggestions and advice! I will definitely pass it along to DH. People at work have been very nice to him at work to as the news has traveled. They let go an entire area that the new VP did not feel was necessary, so a hundred of DH's coworkers got laid off, too. :sad1:

The ones I feel sorry for especially are the recent college grads who are completely stunned and weren't with the company very long.

I'm sorry to hear that. :sad2: I feel your pain too! We just went through this. DH was laid off last NYE. No warning..well other than rumors so he sort of suspected. He too got severance and was able to find another job ironically as an OP manager also but it's 1 1/2 hours away from home on a good day! On a bad day it can easily take 3 hours to get home especially on a Friday night because of shore traffic! He is on call 24/7 too! I hate it but we have to suck it up for now until I find a full time job..I just finished school and am waiting to take my boards. Good luck to your DH! I hope he is able to find something very soon! :wizard:

I hope he finds something soon. My husband has been laid off twice before and no matter how prepared we were it is still a bummer. We are currently waiting to find out if he will make it through the next round of cuts at work. His company was bought out and they are combining resources with the parent company. The joys of corporate America. But, it always works out. Keep your chin up, it will get better.
