Snow White's SCARY adventures.. why on earth don't they change it????

Just got back from Disney World and wondered why on earth Disney doesn't change that Snow White ride? If I would have taken my three year old on that ride, she would have never gone on another ride! It is just terrible! Snow White is my favorite disney film from when I was a kid and it's a shame I can't share that with my kids!

What do you all think?

I went on it earlier this year and it didn't seem nearly as good as it did a few years ago. Is it possible that some/many of the effects are not working, or that the timing is off? I remember being quite good at the time, but this time nothing much happened.

I was at Disney world in November. I have to say that SWSA is the worst ride in any of the Disney parks. I rember going on it as a kid in 87', and it scared the h... out of me. Then in 2001 I went on it agian, and it wasn't that bad. But after going on it last month, I have to say it stunk.None of the efects were working. The only ones that were working were the witch that turned around, and Doc shaking holding the candle. They should have left Mr Toad a gutted Snow white insted.

I totally agree that Mr. Toad should have been updated and Snow White ditched but, of course, Snow White earns Disney much more money than Mr. Toad. I remember years ago when they didn't have the word "scary" in the title, and parents with littluns would come out of the ride looking shell-shocked. It's too scary for small kids and too dumb for everyone else.

Snow White is the first animated movie every made. It is one of the reasons there is a Walt Disney World. It is a great classic, but it is kind of a dark movie to begin with. I would hate to see them get rid of this ride.

I would hate to see them get rid of a Snowwhite ride entirely, but, I would like to see them redo this one. Surely they could update it (gut it and start over?) and lighten it up considerably. They could still have the witch in there as she a major character in the movie, but new sets, effects, storyline would be nice. Something the little kids could enjoy. The way it is now, it is too scary for the little kids and way too old and broken down for the big kids (us)

Hmmmm......well, I will be the voice of dissention - I LOVE Snow White, dark and all. My two year old rode it this summer and was fine.

It's on the must-do list for our 4 year-old every time we go. Nothing scary about it as far as he's concerned.

We took the decision that this ride would scare our 2 year old DD. She didn't ride it but asked to every time went past. I think it is a shame it is so dark and 'scary?' - she would have loved to see Snow White and the Dwarves!

Aside from that if the effects aren't working that is very poor.

Mmmmm.... We ride regularly, and we have never seen any of the scenes inoperable. It's a Disney classic, and IMHO, it should stay.

Ummm...have you ever seen Snow White? I think the movie is just as "scary" as the ride. And I like both.

Many of the animated movies are not appropriate for really young children. I don't think that was the intended audience. The fairy tales most are based on are far "darker" and contain much more "evil" doings than the films !!! Parents need to decide if their children are too young for this ride. My nieces, for example, were too scared to go on the haunted mansion ride when they were about 5 and 7 but my kids thought it was the BEST at the same age !

Our (now nearly 7 year old) daughter has been enjoying it since shortly before her 2nd birthday. For some reason, it never scared her. They did change it somewhat from the original version.

Remember, "you" were supposed to be Snow White when it debuted, going through all of the scenes from the film. Now, Snow White appears in the attration more and it seems a bit less scary.

For those of you that rode it a month or so ago, just a little thing to think about. My husband and I were at the parks in June and things were running fine, but when we went back in Oct. right after the hurricanes there were LOTS of things not working. Just consider the possibility that everything wasn't fixed yet. The first time I rode Snow White, I thought it was plain, but when I rode it again in Oct, I realized how beautiful it was. I do sort of wish is was all 3-D, but it is so beautifully done as it is. The art work and colors are just gorgeous. And the movie of Snow White is pretty scary...the villian from Snow White is evil enough to be the villian in all Disney shows if you notice...Wishes and Fantasmic have her talking to her mirror. She's a bad, scary person! I think the ride is pretty cool, but you have to know what your child would be able to handle.

Just came back too and did not see anything new. My 4 year old loved it like Peter Pan and judging by the wait times so did many others. Yes it could use some updating maybe like small world is getting but it is a classic

Unlike Snow White, which is simply a variation on a traditional state fair dark ride, Peter Pan was a real innovation when it first opened at Disneyland, with the "ships" rising in the air over blacklit dioramas. Yes, it could be expanded and polished up. But it's a lot more effective--and a lot more popular--than the aging Snow White.

FYI, Snow White was modified a few years (decades?) back because of customer complaints that it was too scary. If I'm not mistaken, the Haunted Mansion was also modified to make it more kid-friendly at about the same time.

Fizban, you are correct. I believe it was 1994. Originally, it was named simply "Snow White's Adventures". Snow White was basically absent from the attraction. Because (as the story goes) YOU were supposed to be Snow White, going through the story. Few guests "got" this subtelty.

Then, in 1983 (I think), the word "Scary" was added to the title in response to guest complaints that they had no idea it would scare their kids.

It wasn't until 10 years ago that the revision took place and Snow White was added in various places. The "scary" factor was toned down somewhat, but not a lot.

As for the Haunted Mansion, other than the addition of those ugly, giant, (and out of place) neon spiders, I don't recall any major changes from the original. Do you have more details?

Haven't had any problems with our son being scared on this ride, but I do have to say that its our least favorite of the Fantasyland rides.
