The most awesome winter fun activity....LOL this is from a Floridian that saw snow for the first time last week....we went tubing and we did a "train" there was 8 of us and I got my mother (who is afraid of heights) on it we had so much fun....so what other "low maintenance" winter activities that are fun to do in case I do it again

Oh, I know. I love it!! We did it last year for the first time and it was a blast. My DD was screaming the whole way down. :lmao:

I was so worried that the dang tube would flip as we were flying down, but thankfully it didn't.

Where did you go?

When we were growing up we did a ton of cross country skiing. We lived in Oregon, not far from Crater Lake, so we always went there. Snowshoeing also, but boy that is a workout. :rotfl: I miss living out there.:sad2:

Ice skating can be fun and of course there is always downhill skiing and snowboarding.

We went to Idaho...I stayed away from the Ice skating and skiing in order to stay alive,...

Growing up there was a tubing hill not far from us and we went a lot. In 5th and 6th grade the school would go a couple times/year so that was even more fun.

Ice skating is fun too. Most of the parks here flood outdoor rinks so we are only a couple blocks from there. When I was a kid my dad would make an ice rink in our back yard each year. If you can rollerblade, ice skating is easy.

If you haven't ever built a snowfort, that is fun too.

If you have a chance to snowmobile, do that!!! Usually at resorts they will have groomed trails and guides. We have gone snowmobiling in the mountains a few times and OH MY is that amazing!!

I was going to start a thread to ask this...but since this is here maybe I'll ask Y'all. We're going tubing in a few weeks in Boone, NC. Being from central NC, the kids don't have snow boots, ski pants, etc. Do we really need that kind of stuff? I'm not sure I can really get it at this point but I'm hoping they'll be okay with regular boots and some long johns under their pants. Sounds redneck but hopefully they'll have fun. Any advice on what they need?

Sorry to hijack the thread :flower3:

Nothing wrong with jeans and long johns. That is what we grew up wearing when we were kids and went sledding. Only time we wore snow pants is when we skied.

Just make sure the boots have good tread so that they won't be slipping and falling and if they aren't insulated then have them double up on some thick socks to keep their feet warm.

There kids and they always have this amazing ability to not feel the cold like us old people do. :rotfl2:

i have lived in florida for over 20 years, but i grew up in ohio. i never had snow pants either. long johns and jeans! but i do remember that we always put our feet in empty bread bags before we slipped them in our boots. it made the boots easier to get on and off, and kept our feet dry!!
have fun in boone, nc., my nephew was just there a couple weeks ago and had a BLAST!! it was his 1st time out of florida and loved the snow. snowboarding was his favorite. i know the resort he was at rented out everything you could ever need. he took everything with him (borrowed from his mom's friend), but said he didn't even need most the stuff. just the coat and gloves.

I would get them some. It isn't so much the cold but getting wet. You can probably order some online from Walmart, Target, etc. for next to nothing. Also, if they use tow ropes on the tubing hills, get some mittens with leather on the palms or the ropes will rip their mittens. I don't know what you mean by "regular" boots. Are you talking cowboy boots?
