Snow to 80 in 8 days–A spoonful of Holiday Cheer (2/5 update Ch 36 - Final Thoughts)

We finished up our second ride for RnR and noticed that our FP window time was open again, so we grabbed a set of Fastpasses for RnR before we left. Now it was time to explore the park some. There was a Disney "secret" I had seen and heard about that I wanted to show the boys, so we headed back toward Echo Lake. I had seen it before on the DIS, but was reminded of it recently reading Glenn's latest TR so I remembered it on this trip. We arrived near the entrance to Indiana Jones and my goal was to locate

IMG_2819.jpg

(Thanks to Glenn for letting me use his great TR picture of the well!!!)

The boys asked me what I was looking for. I told them about the well and they had actually seen it before so they knew where it was, but they didn't know the significance. We walked up to the well and I told them to pull the rope. We could hear what sounded like construction noises and people talking from inside the well. (We were so intent on pulling the rope and hearing what happened I never even thought about getting a picture, which is why I had to use Glenn’s above) It is funny how many ordinary things we pass right by every time we go to Disney and don't realize the special little details the Imagineers put into them. We continued to explore the surrounding area of the Indiana Jones "dig site." Sadly this is the only picture I took that came out okay....

After exploring the area around the Indiana Jones dig site we headed towards the Streets of America. On the way we passed this photo op and Andrew wanted to get a picture. The line was short so the boys waited their turn and finally got to pose for some pictures. While the PhotoPass Photographer took some shots I got some with the camera on my phone.

We finally arrived at the Streets of America and I had a couple of goals in mind. First I had to pay tribute to my DISbuddy Jordan like so many others have by replicating the Karate Kid crane stance here....

211226937_photobucket_8191_-1.jpg

While we walked around looking at different things I noticed all the lights that would turn this place into something very special later that evening. I also noticed this guy and since I was starting to get a little hungry I was hoping he would ask me to join him.

Before leaving the Streets of America I had one more tribute I had to finally make on this trip for my DISfriend Rosie.
211226937_photobucket_8190_.jpg

And yes Rosie, I got some strange looks from the boys when I asked them to take the picture!!! Hope I lived up to the high standard you set on the DIS!!!

DHS wasn't very crowded since it was NYE day and most people are typically trying to get into the MK and Epcot for the huge NYE celebrations that night. As we exited the area of the Streets of America we saw one of the boy's favorite shows.......Muppet Vision 3D. They really love the wisecracks from Waldorf and Statler, and often quote the ones from the show, or that they find on the internet. I like this show, but I really wish they would do a refurb and change it up some so there is something new to laugh at. I don't do this show every trip, but it is still fun if I haven't done it in a while.

While we waited for the show to start I walked around and got some pictures of the props in the lobby area.

About the time we got done it was time to meet the DW. We were ready to eat so after meeting her we discussed what we wanted. The boys wanted to go to Pizza Planet, but Alison and I weren't really wanting Pizza, so we told them to go ahead (one nice thing about the DDP, they could get their own meals) and we would find something else. Alison wasn't very hungry since she had a little to eat before leaving the room so we decided to just share something, especially since we had an early dinner ADR at Cape May Cafe. We ended up at the Studio Catering Company where we had a Pressed Turkey Club sandwich and the cheese cake for dessert. We both thought the sandwich was pretty good and we only had to use one CS credit on our meal plan. I got a sprite with the meal and we used a snack credit to get DW a diet coke. For the record, Matthew and Jonathan had the Pepperoni Pizza Meal and Andrew had the Meatball Sub at Pizza Planet.

After we were done we wanted to meet back up so I was texting back and forth with the boys. We headed towards TSMM to meet them when we found a kiosk that had Toy Story characters, including the Slinky Dog that Andrew wanted to get so I texted the boys and told them we would wait for them there before riding TSMM.

As we were standing there waiting for the boys this little boy walked up to the CM running the kiosk and informed her that he had lost his parents. The CM was talking to him and he informed her that his name was Oliver, and he was 7 years old from London, England. The CM contacted Security so they could come help Oliver get reunited with his parents. It was taking a while for Security to arrive but Oliver was quite calm and very brave. He said his family was on the way to Tower of Terror but they got separated near the Sorcerer's hat. I'm sure his parents were probably in that area looking frantically for Oliver.

This is a scary event that I'm sure happens all too often at Disney. It reminded me how important it is to teach your young children what to do if you become separated in a huge crowd like that. I'm sure Oliver thought he was headed in the right direction to find them instead of staying put, but at least he knew enough to eventually find a CM and ask for help.

While we were waiting on the boys to arrive, and Oliver was waiting nearby for Security to come help him locate his parents a humorous event happened that helped break the parental tension Alison and I were experiencing for Oliver and his parents. This man came walking by in front of us with his little girl sitting on his shoulders. I had just turned my attention back in the direction they had come from keeping a watch out for the boys when all of a sudden I heard this combination thud and ping sound. Quickly turning my head back towards where I had last noticed the man and his piggyback riding daughter I saw the man staggering backwards a little bit, rubbing his forehead. He had run straight into a lamppost. I don't know what he was looking at to not notice it right in front of him but it was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud. Alison and I both looked at each other and shook our heads, snickering quietly to each other. Where is the lucky timing to capture something that funny on video so I can put it on AFV??? It would have been right up there with so many others I have seen on that show.

Security finally arrived and headed off to help Oliver find his lost parents. The boys finally found us and after purchasing Slinky Dog for Andrew it was time to use that first set of FPs for TSMM since the second set wasn't quite within the ride window. Since Alison wasn't with us when we arrived that morning, there were only four FPs so I decided to sit it out while she and the boys headed in to ride. I worked my way into the exit and stood across from the loading area until they showed up a few minutes later. It was a great chance to grab some pics.

After they departed on their journey to conquer some Midway Games I wandered back outside and waited for them here, just in case they needed to contact me to jump into the battle with them.

The family finally came out to join me with Jonathan the high score victor this time around. It wasn’t quite time we could use the other set of TSMM FPs so we headed off to use the RnR fastpasses. There were only four of them and since DW hadn’t had the chance to ride much so far I decided to let her and the boys go ride while I waited. I found a bench and decided to people watch while hoping to catch some Streetmosphere performers. Time continued to drag along and the longer I sat there, the more I was no longer into staying and catching any more rides. Finally I texted the family and told them I was heading back to the room and they should go ahead and use the rest of the FPs. They needed to hurry though so they could get back to the room in time for us to make our Dinner ADR at Cape May Café.

Coming Up…..Cape May and a Light Show!

Oooooooooooh now I see.. you were employing the "top-o-the-page" technique that Glenn always uses. Glad I could help you out there, Marv.

Yep! Thanks for the bump. I was afraid I wouldn't get it quick enough before someone else posted...... :rotfl2:

Great update, Marv (hope you got my PM in time).

Love the "pole" pictue...I think Rosie will be proud of you!

There was a Disney "secret" I had seen and heard about that I wanted to show the boys, so we headed back toward Echo Lake.

I had never heard of this until recently and now it is popping up all over the place, definitely a well kept secret.

Rosie is getting lots of love on the DIS tonight! Although I think you have some competition in the male pole dancer category. ;)

As we were standing there waiting for the boys this little boy walked up to the CM running the kiosk and informed her that he had lost his parents. The CM was talking to him and he informed her that his name was Oliver, and he was 7 years old from London, England.

Poor Oliver! I hope that they were able to reunite him with his family quickly. What a smart little boy though, finding a CM to help him.

Hey, what's Lauren doing over here? Don't you have kids of your own? :confused3

I actually got this answer correct. I think I hear the Hallelujah chorus playing...

Aw, your boys are cuties Marv. I suppose they take after Ali then?

Nice crane technique, I totally can tell that's what it is! :thumbsup2

Oh honey, you've got to put some more leg into it! Sheesh.:headache:

And yes Rosie, I got some strange looks from the boys when I asked them to take the picture!!! Hope I lived up to the high standard you set on the DIS!!!

Was it similar to the one Marlene gave Glenn when he urinated in the Moroccan fountain? My guess is yes.

Poor Oliver! I'm sure he was terrified. But what a smart cookie to have kept his wits about him and seek out security. :thumbsup2

I'm sure Oliver thought he was headed in the right direction to find them instead of staying put, but at least he knew enough to eventually find a CM and ask for help.

This happened to us when my youngest was five...we were standing by the bathrooms next to ToT contemplating where to head next and then she disappeared! Literally in two seconds. I started frantically yelling her name. She was actually right around the corner, behind the column with a family that looked somewhat like us! I had an enormous heart attack and am sure I scared everyone in a one mile radius of us!

This man came walking by in front of us with his little girl sitting on his shoulders. Very cute pictures!

Great update Marv, looking forward to the Cape May dinner! :thumbsup2

Oh, so thaaat's what picture you wanted to borrow. Aha!

I still didn't do very well in the game, but at least it wasn't a total washout.

I had never seen this sign before and I just read about it last night in "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World". Nice timing on posting a picture for me!

Dag nammitt! I went for the soldiers instead of the cars even though I originally put both.:rotfl2:

I know I got some right but also missed quite a few. You missed a garbage can in the Streets and my hands up under the Merry Christmas sign. :sad2:

A lost child - yup we lost one too. AK when DS was 4. '98 AK just opened and we were heading towards Camp Minnie Mickie and while walking, a show had let out so it got crowded. Apparently DS stopped to bend down an pull up his sock and with the crowd, we were gone. He was thirsty so he found a dark haired woman with a water bottle. I am sure he thought it was me
That woman was wondering what this cute little boy was doing grabbing her water bottle so se headed to the nearest CM.

Proabably 10 seconds after he bent down we looked and said " Where's the boy?" We were always making sure we would not lose DD because she WAS going to get lost and here we lost him. We doubled back and found DS, the lady and the CM and reclaimed our son.

Darn :headache: Didn't do so well this round.

Love the tribute to Rosie. Great job Marv! Rosie, I think you have some strict competition going for you! :rotfl:

Well, of the two answers I changed - one was wrong both times, and the other was an improvement! Missed a few others - but a definite improvement.

Now that the men are getting in on the pole dancing craze we're going to have to establish some age categories - we can put Marv in the over 40 category so he doesn't have to try to compete with the gymnastics that Lessa's brothers came up with!

I wonder if I try the sleep in and don't come to the park until just before lunch, if my husband and boys would sacrifice their fastpasses for me ........ Oh well, that's why I don't feel guilty about getting 3- 4 extra days without them this trip. :rotfl2:

ahh nuts, way to go marv and not doing the stuff i said you would do.

:headache:

you could have at least made an attempt.

see if i share any nudie beach pictures with you.
:snooty:

i bet you could have gotten in line with them for the TSM...just pull the hand 4 tickets over, and when he asks for hte 5th, look in your pockets, and say you must have lost it...works every time.

but usually only for 1 less than your group.

you cant go up there with 5 people and hand him 1 and say i lost the other four.

Great update!

We pulled the rope for the first time on our most recent trip but I guessed the Singin in the rain umbrella -:headache:! We also asked about the key under the mat at Muppets.

Nice tributes! :thumbsup2

I think I stunk it up on the regular questions but I got one of the bonus ones right - a lost child!:yay::woohoo:

Wish I could chat and comment more but I am off to camp with my Brownie troop! See you all Sunday!

The very thought of lost children at Disney is so scary. I'll be glad when my boys are big enough to learn lost-at-Disney etiquette. I'll be even gladder when they're teenagers and can safely go off on their own.

Good thinking going in the exit of TSM to get the pictures of everyone else riding. :thumbsup2

Great update, Marv (hope you got my PM in time).
Love the "pole" pictue...I think Rosie will be proud of you!
I got it! Thanks and hope she will, but there may be a better one later on in the TR. ;)
Hey, what's Lauren doing over here? Don't you have kids of your own?
Yes, but I guess Lauren is now the daughter I never had...... :)
I actually got this answer correct. I think I hear the Hallelujah chorus playing...
I actually thought about changing it to something else, but I didn't want to punish all the others who got it correct....... :rolleyes1
Aw, your boys are cuties Marv. I suppose they take after Ali then?
Yep! I'm not even sure you could pick them out in a crowd if I was the only one around them and Ali was somewhere else. :confused3
Nice crane technique, I totally can tell that's what it is! :thumbsup2
Knowing you are a master karate expert, that is high praise!!! :goodvibes
Oh honey, you've got to put some more leg into it! Sheesh.
Glad you said it and not me! ;)
Hey, I’m a rookie! I’ll see if I can’t improve my technique on the next trip………
Oh man! That is AFV gold!
Yeah, that was probably a $100,000 miss! :guilty:
Great update Marv, looking forward to the Cape May dinner! :thumbsup2
Thanks!
Dag nammitt! I went for the soldiers instead of the cars even though I originally put both.:rotfl2:
I knew you would be particularly upset about the “almosts.” :confused3
I know I got some right but also missed quite a few. You missed a garbage can in the Streets and my hands up under the Merry Christmas sign. :sad2:
If I did them all on this trip there wouldn’t be anything left for the upcoming trip….. :rolleyes1
He was thirsty so he found a dark haired woman with a water bottle. I am sure he thought it was me
That woman was wondering what this cute little boy was doing grabbing her water bottle so she headed to the nearest CM.
That is too funny! :rotfl2: Well, now that it’s over…….
Love the tribute to Rosie. Great job Marv! Rosie, I think you have some strict competition going for you! :rotfl:
Can’t wait to check out your technique in a few weeks!!
Now that the men are getting in on the pole dancing craze we're going to have to establish some age categories - we can put Marv in the over 40 category so he doesn't have to try to compete with the gymnastics that Lessa's brothers came up with!
What? Now that they’ve raised the bar you don’t think I can still compete???
I wonder if I try the sleep in and don't come to the park until just before lunch, if my husband and boys would sacrifice their fastpasses for me ........ Oh well, that's why I don't feel guilty about getting 3- 4 extra days without them this trip. :rotfl2:
I already told her don’t count on us being so generous our next trip… :sad2:

Oh, so thaaat's what picture you wanted to borrow. Aha!
Yep and thanks again!!! Hope Lauren doesn't mind being a part of my TR......:flower3:
I still didn't do very well in the game, but at least it wasn't a total washout.
With our common influences and how similarly we seem to tour the parks, I'm frankly a little surprised you aren't doing much better! Still you are only one slip up by the upper echelon from being right there at the top with the rest of them!!! :thumbsup2
I had never seen this sign before and I just read about it last night in "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World". Nice timing on posting a picture for me!
Just look straight ahead after you exit back into the park.
ahh nuts, way to go marv and not doing the stuff i said you would do.
:headache:

you could have at least made an attempt.

see if i share any nudie beach pictures with you.

Well, I never would have guessed you would go to the nudie beach either!!! (Well, rather that Candi would LET you......) :lmao:
i bet you could have gotten in line with them for the TSM...just pull the hand 4 tickets over, and when he asks for hte 5th, look in your pockets, and say you must have lost it...works every time.

Making notes for next trip........ :rolleyes1
Great update!

We pulled the rope for the first time on our most recent trip but I guessed the Singin in the rain umbrella -:headache:! We also asked about the key under the mat at Muppets.
I keep forgetting about that key. I have GOT to remember that one when we go back!!! :woohoo:
I think I stunk it up on the regular questions but I got one of the bonus ones right - a lost child!
Sometimes it is best to just go with the simple answer..... :thumbsup2
The very thought of lost children at Disney is so scary. I'll be glad when my boys are big enough to learn lost-at-Disney etiquette. I'll be even gladder when they're teenagers and can safely go off on their own.
Yeah it's great to have older boys who can do their own thing and be trusted to stick together. Going to be interesting to see if that will change some with only two of them now. :confused3
Good thinking going in the exit of TSM to get the pictures of everyone else riding. :thumbsup2
After some photography slip ups earlier I was finally in the zone....... :rotfl2:

What? Now that they’ve raised the bar you don’t think I can still compete???

I don't know about you, Marv - but I saw those pictures, and even 10 years ago if I had tried that I would have broken something , but if you think you can do it, wait until I am there with my video camera and we can split the AFV prize money! :thumbsup2

Yeah it's great to have older boys who can do their own thing and be trusted to stick together. Going to be interesting to see if that will change some with only two of them now. :confused3

With my trio, when we would all stay together they did nothing but bicker and complain and pick on each other. That is when we started bringing a friend along - that way there were 4 of them and they could split into 2 and 2 and avoid some of the arguing. So what did they do??? they stayed together as a group of 4

Well Marv that was a brilliant effort of Pole Dancing !!!:rotfl2:It reminds me again that I have to use the Pole at work for a few shots !!My staff already know I'm NUTS so they will willingly take the pix !!:lmao:
I have to show the Carz pix to a certain consumer who is the BIGGEST Fan of Mater !!! She will go CRAZY!!:rotfl2:

I am gonna be doing some Rope Pulling in August  Won't tell Kyle but I will get him to pull the Rope and then take a pix !! Alo gotta do the phone booth thingie

All in all this was an amazing Update !! I am so sorry I was working and couldn't get her any quicker :headache::sad2:

Fabulous update! The tributes were great. And you are such a gentleman to give your fps to Allison. I hope you earned lots of brownie points.

So, when will know the scores after this round? Not that I did that great but at least I got a few right.:surfweb:
